Calvin Hume Silver class winner Motul Roof Of Africa on the new KTM 150XC-W…
we asked him his impressions on the brand new bike from KTM…
“KTM’s 2017 150 XC-W was built with
the serious off-road enthusiast in mind.
144cc of power, a 96.52 cm seat height,
and a price of R89.999 differentiate
this KTM in what has become a highly
competitive segment of the motorcycle
market. Built in Austria but ridden the
world over, the 150 XC-W was designed
to be taken straight off the showroom
floor and ridden away from your bakkie
and into the elements. A nine and a half
litre tank provides fuel for the journey.
Of course, a wide variety of mods for
the 150 XC-W are available through a
number of aftermarket companies in
order to help you fine-tune this KTM to
your exact liking, although some of these
changes may render it a competition-only
machine.”
Calvin has raced the 200 XC-W for two
years and won the national high school
class, as well as the KZN WFO series and
the X-country series. When KTM Durban
asked him to race the 2017 150 for the
Roof, Calvin was worried that the bike
would not deliver with low down torque
and power range...
As they say that’s now history. One
cannot compare the two bikes as the
new 150 is new technology against old.
Calvins first impression from the bike
was how easy it was to ride it feels lighter
than the 200. But it really had a problem
and we felt this at the launch earlier this
year - at low revs it would bog and run
very rich. With that said, Wayne from
