Global Waterborne Adhesives Market: Overview
Natural and soluble synthetic polymers are used to manufacture waterborne adhesives. The
natural polymers comprise dextrins, proteins, starch, casein, bones, and hides. The soluble
synthetic polymers comprise methylcellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, carboxymethylcellulose,
polyvinyl alcohol, and cellulose. The waterborne adhesives are delivered as formulated powders
that are dry or as a solution that can be mixed with water just before the application. The
structure attains the strength after the water gets evaporated or absorbed by the substrate. The
waterborne polymers are soluble hence they provide limited moisture resistance, while there are
some plant polymers that are not soluble thus providing extended resistance to moisture. The
benefits of using waterborne adhesives are that they provide high solid content, high initial
adhesion, and low or no solvent content, and thus being eco-friendly.
