Supply held a special PAW event honoring local law<br />

enforcement and working K9s and Northeast Correctional<br />

Complex was invited to bring and showcase their K9 Unit.<br />

Corporal William Lambert and K9 Officer Bobby Taylor<br />

took K9s Banjo (Bloodhound) and Maverick (Belgian<br />

Malinois) to the PAW showcase. Both K9s were a big hit;<br />

kids and adults alike were in awe of their tracking and<br />

searching skills. Both loved showing off for the crowd<br />

and it didn't hurt that no one could pass without petting<br />

them.<br />

A ‘Day Of Hope’<br />

NECX’s K9 Unit was very humbled to be offered such<br />

praise and given such recognition, and appreciate<br />

Tractor Supply Company for organizing the PAW event.<br />

September is recognized as National Recovery Month: a<br />

time to recognize the work being done battling drug and<br />

alcohol addiction as well as celebrate the successes of<br />

those who have begun their journey towards sobriety.<br />

The Day Reporting Center(DRC) in Johnson City held<br />

their 3rd annual ‘Day of H.O.P.E (Helping Others Promote<br />

Education)’, an educational program for the families and<br />

friends of the DRC clients. During the program, DRC staff<br />

held presentations on a variety of topics, including an<br />

in-depth discussion on what addiction is, what causes it<br />

and how families can help their loved ones overcome<br />

addiction. The three phases of the DRC were also<br />

explained and the families in attendance were given<br />

ideas and resource materials regarding how they can get<br />

involved with their loved ones progress.<br />

“Our ultimate goal today is to educate the families [of<br />

DRC clients] on addiction and the importance of their<br />

involvement,” said DRC therapist Suzanne Runion.<br />

“Better knowledge and understanding of addiction makes<br />

stronger foundations for families helping a loved one<br />

battle addiction.”<br />

NECX K9 Unit Honored During Pet<br />

Appreciation Week<br />

During the second week of September, Tractor Supply<br />

Company stores all across Tennessee held events in<br />

recognition of Pet Appreciation Week (PAW)!<br />

On Saturday, September 17, the Elizabethton, TN Tractor<br />

Reducing Recidivism by Reuniting Families<br />

“I’m 40 years old and have a daughter that I’ll get to meet<br />

for the first time tomorrow,” says one of the 25 offenders<br />

listening to the guest speaker discuss the importance of a<br />

being a strong, positive father figure. “My dad is in here<br />

with me. That’s two generations behind these walls. I’ve<br />

got to prevent it from being three.”<br />

The 25 offenders were a part of ‘One Day with God,” a<br />

two-day program held at the Northeast Correctional<br />

Complex. Presented by Forgiven Ministries, the two-day<br />

program aims to encourage offenders to reconcile with<br />
