MEETING DESCRIPTION
The theme of the 2010 Annual Meeting
of the American Society for Reproductive
Medicine is “Taking Reproduction to
New Heights,” a reference to the new
scientific and clinical heights to which
we aspire for reproductive health and
the alpine venue of our Society’s 66th
Annual Meeting. The 2010 meeting
is specifically designed to meet the
educational needs of both practitioners
and scientists within the fields of
reproductive medicine and biology.
Educational objectives and learning events
in the meeting are intentionally designed
broadly to include both male and female
reproductive health and investigation.
The many learning events are designed
to address educational needs within the
varied fields of reproductive medicine and
biology, including infertility, reproductive
endocrinology, reproductive organ surgery,
menopause, contraception, pediatric and
adolescent gynecology, mental health,
embryology, and reproductive medical
practice administration. This year’s
program will include symposia featuring
the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and the National Institute of
Child Health and Human Development
that specifically address the impact of the
scientific and technological advances in
reproductive medicine and their influence
on society and global health. The 2010
Annual Meeting location is the vibrant,
modern and centrally located city of
Denver. Educational sessions will allow
for the sharing of information from
international experts in their fields through
a variety of modalities: plenary lectures,
postgraduate courses, symposia, debates,
oral and poster presentations, as well as
less formal roundtable sessions. To ensure
the greatest educational opportunities for
introspection and discussion, substantial
time for interaction among participants
and presenters is scheduled.
Educational programs in the 2010 Annual
Meeting are designed to inform learners
about advances in a broad array of
areas in reproductive medicine, biology
and surgery with the ultimate goal of
enhancing the quality of patient care and
improving outcomes in reproductive
health. A sample of the topics to be
covered includes: steroid hormone action,
stem cell research, technological advances
in reproductive surgery including robotics
and adhesion prevention, effects of
appetite and diet on reproduction, genderspecific
aspects of cardiovascular disease
and impact of infertility diagnoses and
therapies, the ethics of cross-border
reproductive healthcare, molecular
genetics of male and female gametes and
the early embryo, medical and public
health ramifications of menopause,
new innovations in contraception,
ovarian stimulation, oocyte and sperm
cryopreservation, and integration of
medical and psychological care of the
couple undergoing reproductive medical
care.
A series of special sessions of oral
and poster presentations will inform
participants about the results of recently
completed basic science and clinical trials
with relevance to biologists and clinicians
specializing in reproductive medicine. The
Scientific Program of the 2010 ASRM
Annual Meeting will stimulate open
discussion and vigorous exchange of ideas
in a vibrant multicultural atmosphere.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the 2010 Annual
Meeting Scientific Program of the
American Society for Reproductive
Medicine, participants should be able to:
1. Describe the safety and implications of
ART on embryo imprinting and
obstetrical outcomes.
2. Describe how the modern treatment
of clinical male and female reproductive
dysfunction includes genetic,
biochemical, anatomic, and behavioral
assessment and introduces evidencebased
approaches to medical and
surgical therapies.
3. Enumerate the molecular mechanisms
underlying reproductive function and
describe how these functions are targets
for potential new therapeutics.
4. Assess recent advances in operative
techniques and instrumentation that may
lead to better correction of reproductive
pathology.
5. Describe how cross-border reproductive
care can impact all members of the
healthcare team including male and
female reproductive medical specialists,
scientists, mental health specialists,
technologists, adjunctive medical
9
practitioners including nurses, and
specialists in administration and
business.
