mentor<strong>in</strong>g for future workshop development.<br />

The Academic Scholars and Leaders (ASL) Class of 2016 made a donation to the APGO<br />
Capstone Fund <strong>in</strong> honor of Frank Stritter, PhD, who has stepped down as the chair of the<br />
program. We <strong>in</strong>vite you to jo<strong>in</strong> us for a toast dur<strong>in</strong>g the Welcome Reception on Saturday,<br />
January 7, to celebrate his extraord<strong>in</strong>ary contribution to APGO and the ASL program.<br />

MARTIN L. STONE, MD, FACULTY<br />
DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR<br />
APGO’s annual Faculty Development Sem<strong>in</strong>ar<br />
was renamed the Mart<strong>in</strong> L. Stone, MD, Faculty<br />
Development Sem<strong>in</strong>ar <strong>in</strong> June 2012 <strong>in</strong> honor of<br />
longtime APGO member, leader and friend, Mart<strong>in</strong><br />
L. Stone, MD. Doctor and Mrs. Stone endowed the<br />
sem<strong>in</strong>ar shortly before his pass<strong>in</strong>g November 1, 2012.<br />
Doctor Stone received numerous honors and<br />
recognitions for his work dur<strong>in</strong>g his 60-year career <strong>in</strong> medic<strong>in</strong>e. He served as APGO’s<br />
found<strong>in</strong>g Vice President <strong>in</strong> 1963, was the Wayne Johnson Memorial Lecturer <strong>in</strong><br />
1991, received the APGO Teach<strong>in</strong>g Award <strong>in</strong> 1994, the APGO Wyeth Ayerst Career<br />
Achievement Award <strong>in</strong> 1997, the APGO Dist<strong>in</strong>guished <strong>Education</strong> Award <strong>in</strong> 1999 and<br />
was honored with the APGO 20 Years of Excellence award <strong>in</strong> 2003.<br />
Doctor Stone received his medical degree from New York <strong>Medical</strong> College <strong>in</strong><br />
1944, served <strong>in</strong> the United States Army and completed his residency at New York<br />
<strong>Medical</strong> College and affiliated hospitals. He was appo<strong>in</strong>ted professor and chairman<br />
of the departments of obstetrics and gynecology at New York <strong>Medical</strong> College <strong>in</strong><br />
1956. In 1978, he accepted the position of professor and chairman of obstetrics<br />
and gynecology at the newly opened State University School of Medic<strong>in</strong>e at Stony<br />
Brook. He held that position until his official retirement <strong>in</strong> 1995.<br />

The APGO Clerkship Directors’ School is designed<br />
for clerkship directors of all experience levels and<br />
consists of three parts. Parts 101 and 201 of the<br />
school are held dur<strong>in</strong>g the APGO Mart<strong>in</strong> L. Stone,<br />
MD, Faculty Development Sem<strong>in</strong>ar <strong>in</strong> January each<br />
year. Part 301 is held dur<strong>in</strong>g the CREOG & APGO<br />
Annual Meet<strong>in</strong>g each March. Although this course<br />
is designed with the basics <strong>in</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d, clerkship<br />
directors of all levels of experience, as well as<br />
those consider<strong>in</strong>g becom<strong>in</strong>g a clerkship director,<br />
will benefit from these <strong>in</strong>teractive sessions.<br />
Completion of all three components of the<br />
Clerkship Directors’ School is essential for new<br />
ob-gyn clerkship directors. To acknowledge the<br />
significant <strong>in</strong>vestment of time and resources<br />
required to participate <strong>in</strong> the school, APGO will<br />
issue a certificate of completion to each attendee<br />
who f<strong>in</strong>ishes all three components <strong>in</strong> a three-year<br />
time period. APGO will track your attendance at<br />
future sessions and issue your certificate at the<br />
