Philippine Nurses Association of America Foundation
in Partnership with Bicol University ( BU )
in Legazpi City, Albay
Republic of the Philippines
House of Representatives
SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT OF ALBAY
My warmest greetings to all the participants of the 4th International Collaborative Conference
of the Philippine Nurses Association of America Foundation (PNAAF), in partnership
with Bicol University in Legazpi City, Albay. The PNAAF has demonstrated its commitment
and dedication in pursuing its mission, vision, and goals. It has provided not only leadership,
scholarship, research, and educational programs that are of high caliber, but also set its
sight on providing a Legacy Building for Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA)‐
PNAAF.
The Conference provides a forum for International health professionals and nursing students
to learn new innovations, share views, exchange wealth of ideas, and reach new
heights in health care. The appropriate theme: Exploring the Innovations in Nursing Education,
Practice, Management, and Research allows for significant collaboration, increased
cultural awareness, and intellectual engagement to improve our service to humanity.
We are very pleased and privileged to be with you in this beautiful city. With impressive
topics and distinguished expert speakers, the two days promise to be intellectually stimulating.
As health care providers, we have a major role to play in our communities.
We thank all who have contributed their untiring efforts in making this Educational event a
grand success! We wish you a fruitful and productive Conference!
PNAAF Executive Director
Dear Colleagues and Conference Attendees,
As I begin to write, I feel proud and honored to welcome you to our 4 th
International Collaborative Nursing Conference. At this moment, I am
reminded of the bible event: John the Baptist, standing with two of his
followers, noticed Jesus walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of
God.” The two followers heard this and followed Jesus. Jesus turned
and saw them following him and said, “What are you looking for?” They
said to him, “Rabbi”, meaning teacher. John the Baptist’s role is the
same as ours – to point Jesus out to others. I would always consider
nursing as personal mission to the family (the domestic church) and society. Beyond the layers
of medicine and clinical knowledge is the true face of nursing- the face of care, compassion, and
service. Today, we bring the nursing leaders to you, and then we let you go on your own journey.
Jesus’ question at that time is the same question to us today. What are we looking for? Similar to
Jesus’ disciples, we are looking for relationships with Jesus in each one of us. When asked
where he is staying, Jesus answered, “Come and you will see”. Today I welcome you to see, and
explore where nursing is going. Will you accept the invitation of our nurse leaders and speakers?
Will you accept the challenges that come with exercising innovative leadership, and communicating
skills to speak up in-behalf of your patient? Will you roll up your sleeves and respond to disasters
and natural calamities? Will you spread the word on the advancement of genomics and
personalized medicine? Care is the central act by which a nurse communicates to another person;
the nature of what he or she is doing so that the person can be healed and be given back
the chance to function at an optimal level of well-being and health. Taken all together, these
characteristics exemplify the services rendered by a nurse, a kind of service that prevents harm
and that which transforms Christ’s example into an understandable form within the plane of human
experience. If there were any other profession blessed with the responsibility of taking care
of human lives and reflect the self-sacrifice that Christ has manifested, I would proudly say that it
would be nursing above everything else. And in our practice as nurses, the Eucharist is a continuous
source of inspiration among colleagues and nursing leaders, pushing us to always give
our best share to the healing ministry, and make the nursing profession a shining symbol of
God’s presence in our daily lives.
May our 4 th International Collaborative Nursing Conference continue to connect us with each
other (internationally), to awaken desires and clarify thoughts as well as share the gifts of sensitivity
and understanding so that we may be able to discern the best actions to address the innovations
in nursing education, practice, management, and research. To my colleagues in the
PNAAF education committee, my deepest appreciation for all the support, you made me look
good.
To all the participants, families, friends, the people behind the scene, and the people of Legazpi
City, a big thank you. May God bless us all!
Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat!
