Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to our very first E-Bulletin. It gives me great pleasure to launch this most anticipated source of interconnection, a place
where we stay in touch with the progress that we are all making towards the transformation and success of the company.
First and foremost I would like to thank the management that has supported us and encouraged us so much throughout the year.
Knowing that we have their full support has helped create a healthy working environment for all of us.
Simultaneously, we are also launching the E-Bulletin digital signage LED which has been installed at level 16. The E-Bulletin
board will include a live feed for us to maintain good internal communication with all employees and subsidiaries. We would
like to keep our ‘family’ informed and provide the tools and information needed for job productivity and enthusiasm.
And of course, with an adequate dose of fun, this bulletin is hoped to promote bonding and positive culture where employees
are better connected to the organization. The E-Bulletin is for all employees to engage and enjoy. It is a place to connect and
share. It’s a great stress reliever, and it gives people something to look forward to. My hope is that all of you will benefit from
the E-bulletin.
We should congratulate each other for the good work we have done together. And let us together move forward with the
determination to make the rest of 2017 a successful year for the company.
Thank you.
HALAL TALK
THE SLAUGHTERING PROCESS OF POULTRY PRODUCTS ACCORDING TO THE SYARIAH
LAW By Hayazi Darus
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful.
All praises to Allah S.W.T, The Creator and Sustainer of the Universe and
salutations to our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W and His family and companions.
I am most grateful to Allah s.w.t for the successful publication of this first QSR
Upstream E-bulletin.
It is important to educate the people on the concept of the “halalan thoyyiban” aspects which are
related to the safety, nutritional content and aesthetic appeal of halal products.
This is a short article pertaining to the slaughtering process of the poultry products according to
Syariah Law that is updated in Malaysia Protocol for Halal Meat and Poultry Productions.
This standard was developed by a committee from various agencies that are Department of Islamic
Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Department of Veterinary Services, Department of Standard
Malaysia, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Ministry of International Trade and Industry and SIRIM
Berhad.
The Malaysian Protocol for the Halal Meat and Poultry Productions is subjected to periodical
review according to the current needs of the local and international industries to keep abreast of
progress in the industries concerned. Suggestions of amendments will be recorded and in due
course brought to the notice of the committees concerned.
Halal Slaughtering process of animal involves restraining, stunning (if used) and severing of
trachea (halqum), oesophagus (mari’) and both the carotid arteries and jugular veins (wadajain).
The slaughtering process is regulated by a set of rules intended to ensure the health of the animal
to be slaughtered and conformance to Islamic religious law, which is derived from the Quran and
hadiths.
PAGE
HALAL SLAUGHTERING PROCESS
10
The following requirements shall
also be complied with:
supervised by the Halal
Certification Body; and

3. Competent in slaughtering the animal
according to Shariah law;
The act of slaughtering shall be done with niyyah (intention) in the name of Allah and not
for other purposes. The slaughterman is well aware of his action; if at a time of
slaughtering the name of anyone else other than Allah is invoked, then the meat become
Haram “unlawful”. If a Muslim forgets to invoke the name of Allah at the time of
slaughtering, the meat will remain Halal. However, if he intentionally does not invoke the
name of Allah, the meat becomes Haram.
The animal to be slaughtered has to be an animal that is permitted for Muslims to eat. Only
the following animals are permitted to be slaughtered, processed and stored on a
Malaysian approved establishment:
1. Ruminants - Cattle, buffalo, goat, sheep, deer and camel
2. Poultry – Chicken, duck, turkey, ostrich and quail
The animal to be slaughtered shall be alive or deemed to be alive (hayat almustaqirrah) at
the time of slaughter.
The number of slaughtermen shall be adequate to ensure that the act of halal slaughter is
conducted properly on each animal.
No intervention can be conducted to hasten the death of the animal as a result of the act of
Halal slaughter unless it is approved by the Malaysian Fatwa.
The number of animal slaughtered daily and the non-halal conformance carcasses shall be
identified and recorded by the Halal Checker and be available for audit by the supervising
Halal Certification Body, Exporting Country Authority and Malaysian auditors.
