Transport Suggestions

You have chosen to use the public bus transport as the mode of travel for your stay in
Malta. The itinerary suggestions included are based on this indication, offering you the
best opportunities to explore the Island using public transport.
The public transport service is pretty reliable but do expect some delays in traffic rush
hours (7-9am and 5-7pm). The bus network is well connected with Valletta being the
central connecting hub. Using public transport limits to some extent the ability to explore
hidden gems, but some suggestions are still included in this itinerary.
Qawra is a well-connected location and so you can visit a number of locations without
having to interchange at the Valletta terminus. Two bus stages are located very close to
your hotel, on either side of the road (bus stops 950 & 951)……………………
DEMO

…….. You can purchase the card from the Airport’s departures area or from the Valletta
terminus. Maya’s Stationery, located alongside your hotel is also an authorised retailer of
the card. If you choose to follow our itinerary suggestions and take the sightseeing tours
and spend a day on quad bikes in Gozo then you would be better off not purchasing the
7-day card.
Other info:
This is our suggested way of exploring Malta’s cultural and historic sites
during your stay in Malta. The Malta Sightseeing Hop-on Hop-off Tour is
the best way to explore the Island in a single day. Basically, the open-top
sightseeing buses operate three routes (North Route and South Route in
Malta, and the Gozo Route) stopping at various places of interest where
you can hop-off or hop-on the circulating buses. With a 1-day ticket
(€20) you can complete a whole tour which lasts around 3 hours, or hop
off at any stage to visit an attraction and hop on later on another passing
bus (buses pass around every 30 mins) …….
Day trip to Gozo
Description:
Quad Biking:
You have expressed your interest in adventure and hidden gems. Here is
our suggestion for you – a day trip to the amazing sister island of Gozo. A
trip to Gozo is a must when visiting Malta.
We are recommending that should you decide to do a day trip to Gozo,
you do this on Thursday 23 rd . Your holiday coincides with Carnival
festivities in Malta, and many Maltese decide to spend the Carnival weekend
in Gozo. So that you are able to enjoy the trip to the full in a more
tranquil way and with less traffic, we are thus recommending to do this
trip on the 23 rd . Friday 24 th should be OK as well…
DEMO
DEMO
You can take bus 221 to Cirkewwa which stops you to the ferry terminal
to cross to Gozo, The enjoyable trip lasts about 20mins (fare is €5 and you
pay before the return journey). You can arrange for the quad bike tour
operator to pick you up and start the tour from the Gozo Mgarr (and end
back at Gozo ferry terminal)….
Public Transport
Feeling more adventurous and want to save on costs? Hire the quads
(you can share between 2) for 3, 5 or 7 hours and explore the island for
yourself. A 7 hour hire is recommended to explore fully the island and get
the most value for money. You will be provided with a map for
indications to visit the most popular attractions (& look for the suggested
hidden gems listed below)…
DEMO
You can still use the public bus transport to visit Gozo. Indeed, the service
is even more reliable and timely in Gozo given the relatively little traffic.
You can obtain information on bus routes and timetables on the Malta
public transport website, on the ferry or the ferry terminal in Gozo. You
will be limited in exploring hidden gems but you would be able to visit
popular attractions. Make sure to visit….
Ghajn Tuffieha Excursion
DEMO
How to get there: Ghajn Tuffieha is easily reachable by public transport. Bus route 223
(which stops at the bus stages in your hotel’s street) offers a direct route
to Ghajn Tuffieha. If you wish to first visit the Riviera Martinique bay first
stop at the stage named ‘Riviera’ (pen-ultimate stage). If you otherwise
wish to start by visiting Golden Sands or the Nature Park, or go for horse
riding, then stop at the final bus terminus.
Explore:
Once you arrive at the Ghajn Tuffieha bus terminus there are varies
areas you can explore in different ways. Listed below are some
suggestion on how to take the best out of your visit to the area.
DEMO
DEMO
Majjistral Nature and
History Park:
On the other side of Golden Sands lies the Majjistral Nature and History
Park, Malta’s first natural national park. The Park’s area includes a
stretch of 6km of protected coast, with raw natural views. The park also
contains a number of historical and archaeological sites. The park
extends to Anchor Bay where the famous ‘Popeye Village’ is located.
You can access the park from a narrow passage located in the Radisson’s
hotel car park, or by walking opposite to the hotel once you stop at the
terminus, and then turn left.
Horse Riding:
Tips:
If you are looking for an adventurous way of exploring the area and the
Nature park, then the best way to do so is by going for a horse riding
experience…
DEMO
We recommend to make this excursion in the afternoon so that you can
enjoy a spectacular sunset. Ghajn Tuffieha is the best spot for admiring
the Maltese sunset. At the time you are visiting sunset occurs at around
17:30-17:45.
Restaurants and kiosks are available in the area if you wish to dine out or
take refreshments. A kiosk is located near Golden Sands bay, the Apple’s
Eye Restaurant is located near the bus terminus, while another kiosk is
located alongside the sandy beach of Riviera Martinique.
The Malta National Aquarium
The Malta National Aquarium is located in Qawra itself (Qawra point),
just a 10 minute walk away from your hotel. To find the aquarium, walk
a few hundred metres along the seafront (Northwards in the direction of
the Qawra Palace Hotel). As the road starts turning to the left, you will
find the aquarium.
Although the aquarium might not look extensive on the outside, it is a
sizeable aquarium with 41 tanks. Mediterranean fish, including fish
commonly found in Maltese waters are displayed, together with replicas
of historical artefacts that one can find in the seas around the Maltese
islands. A section dedicated to reptiles, insects and amphibians can also
be found. The aquarium is very well designed, divided into mapped
zones and equipped with interactive digital information stands.
10:00 – 18:00 (last admission 17:30)
Price per person: €12.90
If you have already spent your day in Gozo, you might find a discount for
the admission to the aquarium on the backside of your ferry ticket
Other info:
The centre also includes a giftshop which offers a variety of children’s
toys, games, books and Aquarium souvenirs.
As a memento, the Aquarium also offers you the opportunity to take an
original photo following entrance, which you can then purchase from the
giftshop at the end of the visit.
During your visit round the Aquarium, you could also watch an audio
visual on the History Highlights of Malta which is a production by the
Malta Experience. Access to this 16 minute show may be purchased at
the Aquarium reception prior to entering the Aquarium.
The complex also houses a family-run restaurant with a full
Mediterranean menu of pizza, pasta, grills and snacks. If you prefer to
enjoy some lighter refreshments with amazing views of St Paul’s Islands
and the open sea, a kiosk is located in St. Paul’s Square just outside the
Aquarium
Bugibba Nightlife
Overview:
DEMO… We recommend that you experience Bugibba’s nightlife
especially since your accommodation is located nearby.
How to get there:
The nightlife in Bugibba is different from the more renowned nightlife
capital of St. Julian’s/ Paceville are. While St. Julian’s is more popular
with locals for its noisy and hard partying atmosphere, Bugibba is more
popular with tourists for its less noisy and more ‘social’ form of lifestyle.
Even if you do not wish to stay in any bars/ pubs, with a relaxing stroll
along the Bugibba promenade you can enjoyably sense the pleasant
nightlife activity.
The main night time entertainment centre is Bugibba Square and the
streets surrounding the Square. To get there you can either take a 10
minute walk using the streets at the back of your hotel (opposite to
seaside) or take the more enjoyable (but longer – around 25mins) walk
along the coast (in the direction of the Aquarium).
What to look for: Walk along the Qawra and Bugibba promenades
Life and activity in Bugibba Square

In the square and the streets surrounding it you can find a
multitude of bars, karaoke bars, pubs (lots of British and Irish
style pubs) and night clubs.
If you are looking for a more quiet time, a large share of
restaurants are present with diverse cuisine specialities
(including traditional Maltese, Mediterranean and Oriental
cuisines)
Want to see how the Maltese traditional game of ‘Bocci’ (bowls)
is played? Keep walking along the promenade beyond the
square and you can find the Bugibba Bocci Club. Learn how it is
played and you can give it a try yourself. The Club also hosts a
restaurant and bar which offers extremely good value for
money. You can visit the club during the day as well.
Other Itinerary Suggestions
Carnival Festivities:
Your holiday happens to coincide with the Carnival festivities in Malta
which are going to be celebrated between the 24 th and the 28 th of
February. Carnival is an extravaganza five day programme of events that
includes huge papier-mâché figures paraded on floats in Valletta. These
are accompanied by boisterous brass bands and revellers in colourful
costumes.
The programme of events for this year’s Carnival festivities is not out
yet… look out for it. The crux of the festivities held in Malta (Valletta is
the heart of the action) take place on Mondays (27 th ) and Tuesdays (28 th )
so unfortunately you will miss out on these. However, there would still
be some activities and a lively atmosphere on the 25 th should you wish
to take a visit. Carnival is an excellent opportunity to experience more
the Maltese social and lively way of life. Check out the programme which
should soon be published on www.maltaculture.com/.
Alternatively, carnival in Gozo is celebrated during the weekend (Friday
to Sunday) in the village of Nadur. The Carnival in Nadur offers a very
particular interpretation, where it takes a more macabre and funny
mood. Special night buses are usually operated to accommodate this
event, so you might consider staying in Gozo after the recommended
adventure trip.
