NORTH PROMENADE, FY1 2HB
VIEWING WILL COMMENCE AT 12 NOON SALE WILL START AT 1pm PROMPT
THIS IS THE BEST VENUE IN BLACKPOOL WITH PLENTY OF SPACE AND SEATING
Having been shocked with a small stroke in September I have taken the heart breaking decision to leave
the sport. I have spent the last 11 years creating this family of birds that have won just about everything
possible for me and now making household names of others all over the UK and abroad.
Contained in this sale is ‘Champion Indy’ the mighty NFC Tarbes Grand National winner and breeding
sensation, along with all her children including ‘Louis’ the winner of 1st Section, 8th Open BICC Pau in
2010. Also contained within the sale are the winners of 1st Open Tarbes Classic (and her parents), my 5th
Open BICC Alençon along with all my 600 mile performance pigeons. There is also 4 birds bred by the
Maestro Cees Luykx and 4 young breeders introduced at great expense last year from one of the most
exciting Barcelona lofts in the Netherlands. Just look how many proven racing and breeding pigeons are in
this sale and I am proud that every bird in this sale is either a performance pigeon or no more than only 1
generation away from one!
Matt Rakes - My own performance at the long distance
I set my sights on keeping the number of birds low and concentrating on just one National race
a season over 500 miles using just the club Channel races as preparation. In 2008 I sent to Tarbes
for the first time. Typically I would send something like 3 or 4 birds to these races.
more than 4 or 5 birds to the distance races

Races under 250 miles are solely used to gain the birds experience and to prepare them for the longer races yet without being fully prepared for these
faster races my birds prove the pace and ability they have. For most of my birds (including Champion Indy and Louis) going to Messac at 242 miles is
normally the first time they will ever have been on a transporter in their life.
In the early years I just raced in the club, being either in the mighty West of England South Road Combine, or the Bristol Federation, then in later years
I raced more with the Nationals and Classics.
One thing that makes me very proud is how well my birds have done for other lofts around the UK and even further
abroad. How often do you hear of such fantastic pigeons that always fail to perform even in very experienced hands?
For me to see how well these birds perform in other lofts proves again just how fantastic a set of birds my Indy family
really is.
I respect the views of those fanciers who wish to keep their performances with my birds to themselves but I am very
grateful to the lofts below for their References (phone numbers can be supplied at request should you wish to verify
them for yourselves);
Cees Luykx - additional Lazeroms blood!!!!
Cees was a true champion of the long distance discipline, and a
true gentleman too who selected his birds in the only way he
knew, by putting them in the basket!! He was one of Holland’s
brightest and successful long distance fanciers. He owned
unbeatable long distance stock that was outstanding in the races
of the Pyrenees. Cees would visit the loft of the Lazeroms family
regularly and he often received a few youngsters or a round of
eggs off some of their most famous pigeons.
I first met Cees in 2010, the year he set the long distance world
alight with his ‘Barcelona 241’
legendary breeder as well as the Barcelona winner himself and
other top racers.
When Cees sadly passed away in 2012 all of his birds were
auctioned by PIPA. His superstar ‘Barcelona 241 was sold for over
€45,000 and his family of birds made nearly €175,000 and went all
over the world, such was his fame.
In this sale are 4 birds, bred by Cees;
• Blue whiteflight cock - a direct son of the ‘Barcelona 241’ 1st
Dutch National Barcelona 7,016 birds, 5th Open International
Barcelona 25,821 birds. This cock is the sire of Sire of 1st Club,
9th Combine Messac 2,339 birds
• Cheq Cock - another direct son of the ‘Barcelona 241’ 1st Dutch
National Barcelona 7,016 birds, 5th Open International Barcelona
25,821 birds
• Blue Hen - a stunning daughter of the ‘Asduif 723’ (so a half
sister to the dam of ‘Barcelona 241’) and this hen is the dam of my
St Vincent Hen 13th Section, 58th Open BICC St Vincent and also
my GB12X35489 3rd club, 42nd Combine Messac 2190 birds
• Dark Cheq Hen - a direct daughter of 12th National Bergerac,
38th National Dax who was a daughter of the Ace breeder ‘Asduif
723’ (grand father 1st National, 5th International Barcelona) when
paired to the ‘071’ a winner of 24th National St Vincent 2008,
28th National Tarbes 2009, 98th National Tarbes 2008. This hen
has bred me 14th Section 197th Open BICC Alençon(1) 4,759
birds, 22nd Section 47th Open BICC Alençon (2) 4,332 birds and
Classic Pair
Barcelona 241
1st Dutch National Barcelona 7,016 birds
5th Open International Barcelona 25,821 birds
Cees was a master of the racing game, racing most of his birds on
the ‘Natural system’ but with a few ‘Widowhood cocks’ to reinforce
the team.
• 1st National champion NPO overnight 2009
• 1st Provincial champion overnight long dist. 2006
• 1st Provincial champion overnight long dist. 2007
• 1st Provincial champion overnight long dist. 2008
• 1st Provincial champion overnight long dist. 2009
• 1st General champion Fondclub ZN 2009
• 2nd National champion NPO overnight 2008
• 6th National champion NPO overnight 2007
When I visited Cees he made it very clear that his best breeding
pigeon was the ‘Asduif 723’ who was the grand sire of the
Barcelona 241, so it made sense to get something from that
I was able to buy this hen and her parents two years ago. I didn’t
quite appreciate at the time just how good these birds were or
indeed how proven they were when I got them
Carol’s Delight is a winner of;
• 1st Section, 1st Open LSE Classic Tarbes
• 4th Section, 11th Open LSE Classic Bergerac
The Indy Family, based on the birds of Ton Bollebakker of Laren, NL
Champion Indy
1st Section, 1st Open NFC Tarbes Grand National in 2009
3rd Section, 8th Open NFC Tarbes Grand National in 2008
In 2004 I had finished with racing fast pigeons and was convinced by
Steven Van Breemen that I should try my hand at long distance racing,
and soon after Steven introduced me to his long time close friend Ton
Bollebakker, a master of racing natural birds at the long distance races
in the Netherlands. Ton’s birds were based on some royal distance
blood, the very best Jan Aarden, Van De Wegen all blended with the
old De Smet Matthijs blood and a touch of the old Cattrysse and
Delbar, not the most fashionable birds but anyone knowing real long
distance pigeons knows that its the quality of the bird that matters
when they have 600 miles to fly, not who has the best publicity
machine. I have enclosed some photos of his birds at the end of this
document and you will see in the ‘Bonte Lazeroms’ exactly where Indy
get her good looks from.
Early in 2005 I received the tragic news that Ton, now a close friend of
mine had died unexpectedly, and with this went my plans for a distance
racing adventure. In the coming months I decided that perhaps they
way ahead should be to go to the auction of Tons family of pigeons and
buy a few to try and find my own way in this very different world of
long distance pigeons. In essence, I bought the parents of Indy at his
auction and these birds are the heart of my bloodline today, based
upon his best breeders such as ‘Bonte Lazeroms’ and ‘De Getoepte’,
proven 600 mile pigeons for generations
Here in Paulton, Indy made herself known very quickly as a star in the
making. Her first race in 2007 was from Messac, first time ever on a
transporter in her life and she came here to be the first bird in the area
by quite some way. Put away until 2008 she raced two Messac races,
the second of which she made her only mistake in her life and nighted
out, I thought then that she would miss the 2008 Tarbes race but she
recovered quickly and made the team. A fast race was expected and
Indy returned to her eggs to win 3rd Section, 8th Open National Flying
Club Tarbes at her first attempt, making her one of the fastest 10
pigeons ever to fly the NFC Grand National event. I knew that after a
poor preparation race from Messac it was possible to get this girl
prepared better.
2009 started as always with two preparation races at the 250 mile
mark, the big difference now being that all had gone exactly to plan.
From the second Messac race I wanted Indy to have about 7 hours on
wing, and she was my third bird flying 6 hours 53 minutes (I won the
race with a sister to Indy and my second bird was Indy’s son!) all was
going well.
2009 was a totally different Tarbes race, not a fast one day race like the
year before but now a very hard 2 day race with a lunchtime liberation
in the heat of the day, any pigeon not 100% would be found wanting
with only the best and the brave at the front. I am convinced that from
these hot hard races the birds at the front have all the qualities to be
excellent breeding pigeons.
My big concern was the west wind on the second day of the race
pushing the west country birds away from home every second of every
minute of every hour.
At 10:43am I saw a dot on the horizon, no doubt in my mind what was
coming towards me, stand still, call her home and watch her hit the
trap and run in, and this was the only time I have ever seen her look
ruffled, she had given everything in the tank.
After a very long day I was relieved that despite the westerly wind and
racing against lofts 100 miles east of me, Indy had beaten all the other
birds in the country and was the Grand National winner, the most
coveted race in England was hers.
I turned away some very significant offers to buy her from me as I
wanted to breed my own family on long distance pigeons, just like Ton
Bollebakker had before me and I now had a real jewel to work with.
What on earth do you do after this? Well I decided that now the
biggest race in England was in the bag it was time to try something
different.
In 2010 I had an even smaller race team as I had placed Indy, her sisters
and two very good sons in the breeding loft, what was left for racing
was all unproven at the distance.
I set my sights on the BICC’s Pau International race, after 6 days in the
basket they had a very hot race with a strong west wind again and low
and behold up pops a remarkable Grizzle Cock who was one of the
eggs Indy raced back to in July 2008 when she was 8th Open NFC
Tarbes. This grizzle cock, named ‘Louis’ was 1st Section, 8th Open
BICC Pau on his very first long distance race and won the Section by
almost 200ypm.
Louis
1st Section, 8th Open BICC Pau International in 2010
(direct son of Champion Indy)
Both Indy and Louis have left their mark all over the country breeding
fantastic pigeons for fanciers all over the UK and even some that have
gone abroad. Please see the list of References for details.
In my own lofts this year my 5th National Alençon is a granddaughter
of Indy, and my 5th Section 40th Open BICC Pau is a grandson of her.

Lot 1 GB10N85427 Cheq Cock. Full brother to
‘Champion Indy’. Sire of 1st Club, 1st Bristol
Federation Fougères beating nearly 2,000 birds
in the entire convoy including North Staffs
Federation. This cock has flown 6 Channel races
up to Tarbes. The very best of the Ton
Bollebakker bloodlines. Sire is a son of ‘De 145’
who was 1st Ace pigeon in the overnight races
2003 in the distance club Gooi and Eemland
being a son of the 16th National Mont de marsan
2002 when paired to a sister of the ‘Kanjer’ cock
who was a multiple first prize winner and 2nd
National Chateauroux 11,000 birds (Kanjer was
also Ace pigeon of the day races in the Gooi and
Eemland distance club and 2nd Ace pigeon in
the whole of Hollands famous region 7 and this
was at 6 years old). The dam of ‘De 145’ is
inbred to the ‘Kanjer’ cock. The dam of
‘Champion Indy’ was bred from a son of the
super breeder ‘Bonte Lazeroms’ when he was
paired to ‘Nikita’ 1st Fondclub, 46th National
Bordeaux, 69th National Pau in a hot north east
wind and again 259 National Bordeaux. To breed
Indy’s dam, the son of Bonte Lazeroms was
paired to a daughter of ‘De San Sebastian’ 1st
Gooi and Eemland (only bird on the day in that
area) 66th International San Sebastian, also
49th National Ruffec, when paired to ‘Bonte
including 2nd National Perpignan, 2nd
2008 flying 570 miles at 1485 ypm, winner of
performance by a hen. In my opinion ‘Champion
Indy’ is one of the finest hens of the last decade,
especially when you look at her awesome racing
career when she was only sent to two long
distance races, both of which were very different
