"I enjoyed reading Alex Haley’s, Roots while
learning about our history. As a child,
another writer I found enjoyment was
Laura Ignalls-Wilder. Her books helped me
to hang onto threads of hope while in the
thrusts of abuse.”
Dr. Battle enjoyed sharing her book writing
process. “I create a story arc followed by
chapter outlines. Then, no other editing is
done until I am finished. I leave editing to
the professionals so that the reader has an
optimal experience from reading.
She believes there is a way that we can
encourage more African-Americans to buy
books. “Given the number of African
American book clubs across the country,
more books can be purchased by this
demographic.
Urban art on the cover of the books may
identify them as written by a black author.
Utilizing black media for promotions would
also help.”
Dr. Battle’s books; From Abuse to
Abundance, Reboot Your Soul, Repair Your
Heart, and Rebirth Into Prosperity.
Her books chronicles her life story and
helps others take control of their destiny. “I
named them in tribute to my dad. As he was
a talented and charismatic jazz musician,
who everyone loved. Externally, our family
looked picture perfect.
What people don't know is that our home
was a prison. The windows had metal bars
that were designed to keep me, my mother,
brother, and little sister caged, along with
our family’s deepest secrets. We shared our
house with rats, bats, and other rodents;
often used in torturing us.
While I physically escaped the abuse, it
followed me. Abuse sapped my joy and
creativity. I spiraled into a hole of
depression as a [supposedly] successful
doctor and mother of three children, I
realized there was a purpose in my pain.
Reboot your soul by breaking the silence,
speaking your truth, and ending the
isolation.
