A 1.9 square mile suburb of <strong>Tampa</strong> Bay, St. Leo has a population of approximately<br />

1,300. It is known for Saint Leo University, Holy Name Monastery and<br />

Named after St. Anthony of Padua by Edmund Dunne, a devout catholic, San<br />

Antonio was a carefully planned Catholic community. When developing the<br />

town’s layout, Dunne set aside land specifically for a monastery and convent.<br />

With a population of less than 1,000, San Antonio is still a small, heavily Catholic<br />

Zephyrhills began in 1886 with the original name of “Abbott.” In 1909 Captain<br />

H.B. Jeffries purchased 35,000 acres in the area to start a colony for Civil War<br />

Veterans. In 1910, the name was changed to Zephyrhills and a school was<br />

built, with a library following the next year. Zephyrhills is now known as the<br />

“home of pure water,” and is the headquarters of Zephyrhills Bottled Water<br />

Company. As Zephyrhills continues to grow in population, it is dedicated to<br />

keeping the neighborly charm of a small town.<br />

of the Gulf Coast’s beautiful white, sandy beaches, and mild, Florida winters,<br />

Belleair Bluffs is a small city on the Florida coast, with a total area of 0.6 square<br />

miles. The city began in 1963 and now has reached almost full capacity with<br />

2,200 residents. A Tree Lighting and carol sing were held at the Town Hall for<br />

the community’s first Christmas; both remain an annual tradition to this day.<br />

Clearwater is one of the three principal cities in the <strong>Tampa</strong> Bay Area and is<br />

located between the Gulf of Mexico and <strong>Tampa</strong> Bay. The first passenger railway<br />

line was built to the city in 1888. The railway spurred the development<br />

of Clearwater, bringing many visitors every winter. Clearwater continues to<br />

attract visitors to the area with its warm winters and beautiful beaches and is<br />

also the spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies.<br />

Dunedin<br />

Due to its location on the west coast of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, Dunedin<br />

is home to several of the world’s top rated beaches. Dunedin was settled by<br />

Scottish families in the 19th century and still holds true to its roots today with<br />

many of the residents being members of the Pipe and Drum Corp. The Dunedin<br />

Highland Games, as well as the city’s own special Mardis Gras celebration<br />

and various other annual festivals attract thousands of visitors to the area each<br />

year. Bicyclists are often seen riding through the quaint downtown on the Pinellas<br />

Trail – a 39 mile bike and pedestrian trail which runs throughout Pinellas<br />

County. Dunedin is the spring training home of the Toronto Blue Jays.<br />

Gulfport is a beautiful beach city that attracts many artists with its gorgeous<br />

scenery and tropical lighting. Twice a month an “Art Walk” takes place outdoors<br />

and attracts locals and tourists alike. Many other festivals and activities take place<br />

throughout the year, including an outdoor open air market that is open every<br />

week. The city houses many art galleries, a performing arts center, and a ballroom,<br />

with dance events taking place 5 days a week. Gulfport is home to beautiful<br />

parks and a nature preserve. A trolley system transports travelers throughout<br />

the city at no cost. Gulfport is also known for its delicious cuisine and dining<br />

experiences.<br />

Indian Rocks Beach<br />

Indian Rocks Beach is a small city of 5,000 people located on a beautiful barrier<br />

island between the Gulf of Mexico and the Intercoastal Waterway. Its major<br />

industry is tourism. Visitors are attracted to its beautiful parks and beaches<br />

and the relaxing atmosphere of its nature preserve. Unlike many other cities<br />

in the area, Indian Rocks Beach offers free beach access parking. Many community<br />

events take place throughout year including tree lighting and holiday<br />

parade in December and a Beauty and the Beach festival in the spring.<br />

Indian Shores is a small island town with a population of approximately 1,700.<br />

The island has been a vacation area since the late 1800s. Visitors were originally<br />

transported to the island via ferry until a bridge was built in the early<br />

1900s. Today the town remains proud of its beautiful parks located on the Intercoastal<br />

Waterway, its access to the white, sandy Gulf beaches, and its small<br />

town charm.<br />
