Keep your hearing aids clean!
The biggest learning curve for me in 2016
was how to best avoid my patients having
to fiddle with the wax guards and domes!
These alcohol wipes we’ve been handing
out, if used every night really do make life
a lot easier. Please use them every evening
and make sure you get all the nasty ear wax
off. If you have thin wire hearing aids, pinch
the tip 3 or 4 times. If you have in-the-ear aids,
wipe gently across the surface of the guard
a few times.
In addition, the reception staff can assist you
with any wax blockage problems – just drop
in and we’ll sort it for you.

Hearing Loss is major public health issue that
affects more than 11 million people across
the UK.
Unaddressed Hearing Loss can have a
serious impact on health and wellbeing
People with untreated hearing loss are
more likely to experience emotional
distress and loneliness.
Hearing loss doubles the risk of developing
depression.
People with hearing loss are at least twice as
likely to develop dementia.

minimum 7 hours a day. If you are not, it may
be that should come and see me.

Tinnitus matching features on hearing aids?
Tinnitus is one of the most common
conditions that people experience -
and approximately one in ten UK
adults will have persistent tinnitus.
This is mostly associated with hearing
loss. If your tinnitus is concerning you,
you should talk to your GP. If you
suspect the tinnitus is part of a hearing
problem, we can check if you have a
hearing loss; or if your tinnitus is linked
to a change in your hearing levels.
Most tinnitus associated with hearing
loss will be successfully masked or
disguised by treating the hearing loss.
Put simply, the extra sound introduced
distracts the wearer from the tinnitus
sound.
If this is not the case, it is interesting
that most modern hearing aids now
have a tinnitus program that we can
introduce. That means - if you do have
concerns about your tinnitus, we can
talk to you about ‘tinnitus matching’ -
you can get in touch with us. We may
be able to help you.

shaft (that is - not near to the dome).
Please check that yours hasn’t slid down
the shaft or become loose. If it has, pop in
and we’ll fix it for free!

You may know about our
collaboration with Spen
Valley Civic Society?
We display the unique large scale OS
maps of Cleckheaton from around 1850
and 1900, showing the changing face
of industry and building in the area.
The Society is now working on a mideighteenth
century map from recently
uncovered hand-written documents.
We also display artefacts from our
industrial heritage including many
photographs of places and people
across Yorkshire and Lancashire.
We’d like to expand on this and would like to put together a large collage of photos from
the 1970s and before. Any subject, any place, any condition, anything really…but we need
to know who is in the photo,
where it is, what year it was…
We’ll put these altogether
on one large wall - the idea
is to remind people of how
wonderful our country and
heritage is.
So please look through your
drawers, cupboards and attic
and see what you come up
with!
Don’t worry if the pictures are
precious - we can easily take
a digital copy of it.

Please make sure your hearing aids are covered
on your home contents insurance policy. The
best way to do this is to check you have accidental
cover on ‘unnamed items’ up to £1500 per item.
You should NOT have to pay extra for hearing aids
to be covered. If you do lose a hearing aid and
then report a claim, do not be fobbed off on the
first call. Many consumers are.
