Chapter 6
I had been on several roads in My time on Gor, but never had I been on a
road that seemed to be as deserted as this one. Perhaps I had been
spending too much time within the City walls. The near deafening silence
created an eerie feeling and My nerves were already working overtime,
keeping My eyes in all directions was making Me dizzy. The wagon seat
wasn't doing much for Me either.
The road ahead reminded Me of a never ending strip of dust, scattered
with rocks. The only sounds to keep Me sane were the conversations with
Talarius and Aiken as We travelled.
I was glad the night had passed without event, unfortunately, the
blackwine this morning; I could say little about…it was hot, which did
nothing more than warm the morning chill.
I cared little about being out in the open as We were at night and as much
as I tried to focus on the road ahead the note My Guards had brought to
Me before We left lingered in the back of My mind, like an annoying fly in
My face.
The whole situation was odd to say the least, and the Man's face, not
familiar to Me, yet I couldn't shake His expression…fear is not something
easily forgotten. What had the man so frightened? What did He know that
scared Him in such a way? Or better yet WHO?
I drew a deep breath, releasing it slowly and tried to shake the thoughts
from My mind. I hoped We soon found something that made some sense
in this journey.
Absentmindedly I lifted the reins bringing them down against the bosk
sharply urging them ahead at a slightly faster pace. Their loud bellowing
cut the air's silence.
