Statement instillation view...detail images...statement This is a master study, not of a sculpture, but of the pedestal under it. I felt that the fame and greatness surrounding an artist and their work didn’t come from the physicality of the object, but the context and prestige surrounding it. I emulated that context by replicating the museum pedestal under Giacometti’s Man Pointing from 1947 from a picture I found in my art history textbook, which I decided was an adequate form of authority on “great” works of art. This installation contains an exact replica, half-scale model, and three sculptural “thumbnail sketches”.
