This is a master study, not of a sculpture, but of<br />
the pedestal under it. I felt that the fame and greatness<br />
surrounding an artist and their work didn’t<br />
come from the physicality of the object, but the<br />
context and prestige surrounding it. I emulated that<br />
context by replicating the museum pedestal under<br />
Giacometti’s Man Pointing from 1947 from a picture<br />
I found in my art history textbook, which I decided<br />
was an adequate form of authority on “great” works<br />
of art. This installation contains an exact replica,<br />
half-scale model, and three sculptural “thumbnail<br />
sketches”.
