have no will or moral power to resist. I saw that,<br />

through his temptations, he is instituting everchanging<br />

fashions, <strong>and</strong> attractive parties <strong>and</strong><br />

amusements, that mothers may be led to devote<br />

their time to frivolous matters, instead of to the<br />

education <strong>and</strong> training of their children. Our youth<br />

need mothers who will teach them from the cradle<br />

to control passion, to deny appetite, <strong>and</strong> to<br />

overcome selfishness. They need line upon line,<br />

precept upon precept, here a little <strong>and</strong> there a little.<br />

The Hebrews were taught how to train their<br />

children so that they might avoid the idolatry <strong>and</strong><br />

wickedness of the heathen nations: “Therefore<br />

shall ye lay up these my words in your heart <strong>and</strong> in<br />

your soul, <strong>and</strong> bind them for a sign upon your<br />

h<strong>and</strong>, that they may be as frontlets between your<br />

eyes. And ye shall teach them your children,<br />

speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house,<br />

<strong>and</strong> when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest<br />

down, <strong>and</strong> when thou risest up.” (Deuteronomy<br />
