2017 is a Milestone Year for AHS
February 2017
Our new logo celebrates
our 65th anniversary!
You may have noticed this month’s edition of the The Scoop has a new, yet old, look. That’s because 2017 marks 65 years for the Austin Humane Society, and we have a
lot to celebrate! All year long, we will be looking back at the big moments from our past that have led to building the largest No-Kill community in the country. From the
critical programs like Trap-Neuter-Return (you’ll get to read all about this on the last page!), to finding thousands of animals new homes through adoption, to how
disaster response has always been a part of our story; we are excited to celebrate our journey as Austin’s longest-standing No-Kill shelter with you throughout 2017.
Spread the Love
Society is your charity of choice!
Shower Them with Love
Give the Gift of Love All Year Round
Join Our Animal Friends Monthly Giving Club
We have hundreds of donors who show their love each month for the cats and dogs at the Austin Humane Society by making a recurring gift. These monthly donations
allow AHS a reliable and steady flow of income to provide the essentials for all of the animals in our care.
By becoming a member of the Animal Friends Monthly Giving Club, your donation can be automatically withdrawn right from your account – no pesky reminders, no fuss.
It’s the easiest way to show you care for the animals of AHS!
Here’s what some of our members have to say:
“It allows you to budget,
deduct your donation (less
taxes, yay!), and having a
straight deduction from your
bank account is a no brainer.
You decide the amount -
anything you can do helps, it
really does.” – Allison
“My heart tells me that I want to rescue
all animals in need. My mind, and my
husband, tell me this is not possible. So I
make a monthly donation to the Austin
Humane Society. My contribution is an
amount that I can easily handle. When I
receive my monthly credit card statement
and see my contribution, I smile.” - Vivian
“I want AHS to know that
they can count on me for
consistent financial support
throughout the year so that
they can fulfill their mission of
serving animals in need in
the Austin area.” – Clare
“Time blows right past us so fast, having
our donations come out easily each
month takes the guesswork out of it for
me. It's important to my morale to be
donating. I can't imagine not having it
automated!” – Ellen, corporate monthly
donor
Just a few dollars each month can make a world of difference!
Keep a close eye on the roads, and you just might see this beauty cruise on by over the next few months.
Tickets are now on sale for the 13th Annual AHS Car Raffle! This annual fundraiser, made possible by Roger
Beasley Mazda, is a crowd favorite and looking at this year’s car, it’s easy to see why!
This year’s raffle features the ever sleek and stylish 2016 Mazda Miata MX-5 Sport in jet black. It’s valued
at more than $26,000.
Now in its 13th year, we checked in with some past winners to see how having that lucky ticket really did
change their life!
This year’s Miata MX-5 Sport, up for grabs in the
13th Annual AHS Car Raffle.
“It was 2013, and I was still working but nearing retirement. We knew we would need a reliable
car during retirement, so we were out looking at new cars the Saturday of the drawing. After
seeing the prices, we came home with a decision to fix our car and for me to continue working.
We listened to the phone message when we came home. It was an amazing answer to our
prayers. I really could retire, which is what I did. We did not drive the Miata home but traded it
and our car for a larger Mazda, which we happily drove home that same Saturday evening.
Winning the car changed our lives. I hope the donations from the car raffle change many fur lives.
This is why I always purchase a raffle ticket every March from the Austin Humane Society.
Someone has to win, and it only takes one ticket!”
– Carolyn, 2013 winner
SAVING LIVES FOR 65
Trap-Neuter-Return Program Marks 10 Years
In honor of AHS’ 65th anniversary celebration, we’re highlighting some of the
critical programs that have helped make our organization the industry leader
that it is today. It was back on March 2nd, 2007 that AHS kicked off the
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, embarking on a mission to take an even
bigger stance to prevent the homelessness of animals. Through TNR, AHS
provides free spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations for community cats (cats
without identified owners). We are celebrating serving over 52,000 cats as we
move into the program’s 10th year!
“Trap-Neuter-Return reduces cat overpopulation and homelessness, preventing
thousands of unwanted litters each year,” says Katelen Knef, AHS Shelter
Manager. “TNR saves the lives of our community’s cats through spay/neuter and
vaccination and allows free-roaming cats to live happy and healthy lives in their
outdoor environment. For every cat you trap and bring through the Austin Humane
Society’s TNR Program, you prevent thousands of cats from being born into
homelessness.”
AHS AROUND TOWN
