Social media
types of network. The chain
that links scientists and co-authors
is pretty much like a
network where the scientist is
the node in the connections. A
scientist’s co-author will have
more co-author than you
would have much like how
a network branches. They’ll
have more publications and
citations than you as well. It
turns out, number of publications
and citations meet this
criteria. And so do wealth
and happiness, too. This
makes your friends probably
more richer and happier than
you. That has important implications
for the way people
perceive themselves given
that their friends will always
seem richer, happier, and
more popular than they are.
And so the problem is likely
to be worse in social networks
where this is easier to see.
Brent said, “This might be
the reason why active online
social networking service
users are not happy,’ say
[the researchers], referring to
other research that has found
higher levels of unhappiness
among social network users.
So if you’re an active Facebook
user feeling inadequate
and unhappy because your
friends seem to be doing better
than you are, remember
that almost everybody else
on the network is in a similar
position.” I’m not really
surprised that social media
can cause depression. Everything’s
balanced anyway. If
there’s an advantage, there’s
also a disadvantage. I’m just
not sure if friendship paradox
is an advantage or disadvantage.
The Big 3 Social Networks
You Probably Should Have
On a non-depressing matter, social media definitely
lift us up, up, up in our daily lives whether you’re a
student, working individual, or whoever you are as
long as you can access the internet. There are a lot of
risks, but we will focus on the positives in this article.
So here’s the big 3 social networks you probably
should have.
Remember your old favorite friend
back in kindergarten? You want to
reconnect with him but you don’t
know anything about him right now
let alone his current location. You
still remember his name, right? So
log on Facebook and search for him.
You will find a lot of people with
the same name but with Facebook’s
updates recently, you will find him
no matter what. Before social media,
people used to send letters or
telegrams. What now? Instant messaging.
It doesn’t matter how many
