Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test Pack 

After an intense development process, Interster has 

developed a new Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test 

Pack which meets all the requirements of ISO 11140-4. 

The Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test Pack is a Type 2 

chemical indicator packed in medical grade paper with 

cardboard outer packaging, which imitates the original 

Bowie & Dick test. 

The Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test Pack indicates 

whether steam penetration in the autoclave has reached 

the required parameters. 

The chemical indicator will change from blue to light pink to indicate whether all parameters (time, pressure and steam 

penetration) were sufficient to pass the process. 

Material 

The Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test Pack consists of a chemical indicator which is packed between layers of medical 

grade paper. The chemical indicator and special paper are packed in a thin cardboard outer box which can be opened 

very easily after use. The indicator contains a specially developed indicator ink which is affixed through a silkscreen 

printing process. The product does not contain heavy metals. 

Accreditation 

The Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test Pack has been tested under the supervision of BSI Assurance UK Ltd. The test pack 

was positively certified with a BSI Kitemark (KM 633144) and completely meets the requirements of ISO 11140-4 on all 

possible Bowie & Dick cycles (B1, B2 and B3). 

Colour Change 

As the starting colour of the Bowie & Dick Type Autoclave Test Pack is blue and the successful change colour is light pink, 

a clear contrast is visible between a successful and unsuccessful process. This eliminates any doubt between a before and 

after result. On the image below an unused and used indicator sheet are displayed.

DPCD-3 Professional 

The Digital Process Challenge Device (DPCD) is a useful device for the daily verification 

of the steam sterilisation process. 

The Digital Process Challenge Device (DPCD-3) is a stand-alone system which has been developed based on the Helix 

(EN 867-5). By making use of the newest and most advanced technologies, the DPCD-3 is now the most compact digital 

Helix, and the only digital Helix that meets the requirements of EN867-5. 

The DPCD can be used as a steam penetration test (Bowie & Dick Type) for autoclave load control with every load, and 

as a vacuum leak test. 

The DPCD-3 can be used with many sterilisation programs for example: 

134° Celsius for 3.5 minutes 

121° for 15 minutes 

134° for 18 minutes 

The DPCD-3 is a unique instrument and very user-friendly. It provides the user with information about conditions inside 

the autoclave and displays process results accurately in the form of a PASSED or FAILED signal and graphical charts. Every 

second, the device measures the exact physical parameters in the Helix and the autoclave by means of electronic 

temperature sensors, electronic pressure sensors and time registration. After use the DPCD-3 cools down quickly and can 

be reused after 15 minutes.

ATP Monitoring Application 

For use in any area where monitoring cleanliness is of 

concern or importance. 

ATP Hygiene Monitoring System 

The ATP Hygiene Monitoring System is a rapid and reliable method for verifying the 

effectiveness of the cleaning and decontamination process of all hospital surfaces, internal 

channels of scopes, cannulated instruments and hand hygiene. 

The ATP Hygiene Monitoring System detects Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), the universal 

energy molecule found in all animal, plant, bacterial, yeast and mould cells. Product residues, 

particularly blood and bioburden, contain large amounts of ATP. Microbial contamination 

contains ATP, but in smaller amounts. After cleaning, all sources of ATP should be significantly reduced. 

When ATP is picked up by the tip of the Test® Swab and brought into contact with the unique, 

liquid stable luciferase/luciferin reagent in the Test® Swab tube, light is emitted in direct 

proportion to the amount of ATP present. The Test® Swab is then placed in the ATP hand held 

unit where the amount of light generated is measured and the unit displays the level of 

contamination present in just 15 seconds. 

The hand held unit can then be synched to a PC where the reading is down-loaded to an easy-to-use database with 

management software for tracking the results. The software program can be used to run comparison charts and produce 

colour trend analysis graphs and reports. 

The ATP Hygiene Monitoring System is an invaluable aid for Sterile Services, Endoscopy, Theatres, Infection Control 

Teams, Environmental Service Managers and Engineers to compliment established work place hygiene protocols. It is an 

excellent tool that can be used to enhance or identify problem areas, as well as make workplace cleanliness cost-effective 

and provide evidence of due diligence to satisfy regulatory requirements. 

Common Applications 

The ATP Hygiene Monitoring System can be used in any area 

of a medical facility to test for microbial contamination. The 

ATP monitoring System can test the cleanliness of all washer 

disinfectors, examination rooms, operating rooms, restrooms,

A reliable method for validating 

the cleanliness of all scopes and 

cannulated instruments. 

Flexible and rigid scopes with hard to access internal channels 

pose a unique challenge for monitoring cleanliness. For this 

reason Ruhof created the Test® InstruSponge an absorbent 

swab on a flexible wand, which feeds into the internal channels 

of a scope allowing you, for the first time to get an accurate 

indication of remaining bioburden. 

The Test® InstruSponge used in conjunction with the ATP Hygiene monitoring system is the only product available that 

can provide an accurate numerical reading of the level of contaminants present inside the channels of your scopes and 

cannulated instruments after cleaning. 

Each Test® InstruSponge is clinically clean, individually packaged for single use and comes in various sizes to suit the 

diameter opening of your scope channel or instrument cannula ranging from 1mm–5mm. Test® InstruSponge can test

InstruSponge Flexible 

An enzymatic sponge on a flexible 

wand for cleaning endoscopes. 

InstruSponge is a foam sponge impregnated with 

Endozime ® AW Triple Plus ® with APA which is 

attached to a flexible plastic wand that allows for 

easy manoeuvring through complex scope channels, 

to loosen and expel gross contaminants. Unlike 

conventional channel wire bristle brushes that can 

cause scarring on scope walls, InstruSponge ’s foam 

tip gently wipes clean the inside surface of the scope 

channel while instantly and actively digesting soil 

upon contact. Dipping the foam tip in water 

immediately activates the enzymes.

3) After each passage, rinse the foam tip to remove any visible debris before re-inserting it. 

4) Continue passing through until there is no debris visible on foam tip.

Steam Emulating 

Indicator Type 6 

For Monitoring Steam Sterilisation 

The Steam Emulating Indicator Type 6 is a chemical indicator 

which checks all critical parameters of the sterilisation process. 

A colour change from blue to light pink indicates that all parameters (time, temperature, pressure and steam penetration) 

were sufficient to pass the sterilisation process. 

The Steam Emulating Indicator Type 6 is made of 240 gr./m2 material. The indicator contains specially developed 

indicator ink which is affixed through a silkscreen printing process. All used inks are lead-free. The indicator is laminated 

on both sides. 

• The new Steam Emulating Indicator Type 6 measures 25 x 50mm and will fit any size of laminate pouch 

• For ease of use all information is on one side of the indicator 

• The colour change from blue to light pink gives a very clear indication of a successful or unsuccessful process

Seal Check 

For testing the efficiency 

of your heat sealer. 

The Interster Seal Check ® is a standardised test 

method in accordance with ISO 11607-2 and can be 

used for all sterilisation pouches in combination with 

a sealing machine with a rotating printing wheel. The 

Seal Check ® indicates a successful seal and also 

indicates various sealing problems. 

Sterilisation pouches are made of medical grade paper and a laminate. This laminate consists of two or more film layers 

with different melting grades. Upon sealing the sterilisation pouch, the film layer that is closest to the paper will melt first 

and will result in adhesion within the paper, which produces a clear and even seal. Should the other (outer) film layer also 

melt, the risk of pinholes exists and the pouch will no longer present a barrier to micro-organisms. 

A good sealing machine is adjusted in such a way that only the interior film layer of the pouch will melt. The pressure with 

which the melted film is applied to the paper during the sealing process is critical. If a pouch is not sealed correctly, there 

will be no barrier to micro-organisms and no sterility.

The secret of the Interster Seal Check ® 

The Seal Check ® is manufactured in a width of 175mm, measuring the total turn of the sealing wheel. The Seal Check ® 

contains no chemical ingredients. It has three essential properties: the quality of the paper, the (patented) printing pattern 

and the contrast. With a correct blending of the interior laminate film and the correct pressure on the paper, the seal of 

the Seal Check® will be evident. 

An incorrect temperature or pressure will be visible on the Seal Check®. Quality control during the production process is 

essential and gives the reliability that is required.

Liquid Control Dye Penetration Test I & II 

Ink tests for routine testing of sealing devices - Suitable for see-through pouches. 

Liquid Control Dye Penetration Tests are a new 

generation of ink test for routine testing of sealing 

devices. Liquid Control Dye Penetration Tests are 

specially developed to check the integrity of the seals 

produced by heat sealers (for paper and Tyvek® 

packaging). 

Test I is suitable for see-through pouches which consist 

of a film/medical paper combination. 

Test II is suitable for see-through pouches which consist 

of a film/non-woven polyolefin’s (Tyvek®) combination. 

With these ink tests you can easily, safely and quickly, 

perform an ink test according to ISO 11607-1 

appendix B. 

With the Liquid Control Dye Penetration Tests you can safely carry out your own quality dye test without damaging the 

seal and without the risk of leakage or migration of blue methylene on value objects in your work area. 

The Liquid Control Dye Penetration Tests are supplied (30 pieces) in a special pack for easy application. The aluminum 

package will protect the test ink from light interference.

SteriLite Products

The SteriLite Range is single-use and should not be re-processed. There are no instructions for re-processing. SteriLite products are 

however suitable for first time sterilization and packing. 

Sterilize in compliance with ISO 17665, ISO 25424 and HTM 2010 (UK) in autoclaves compliant to BS EN285. Sterilization 

temperature 134.6 + 2˚C. Compatible with Ethylene Oxide (ETO), Gas Plasma/Hydrogen Peroxide sterilization, Electron Beam (E-

Polypropylene is classified as a Class 5 Recyclable plastic material. Hospital waste products must be disposed of in accordance with 

regulations on clinical waste and hospital protocol. Polypropylene is suitable for incineration. 

Certification
