BUSINESS BEAUTIFICATION – <strong>Kawartha</strong> Lakes Construction<br />
Sponsored <strong>by</strong> Sunshrine Day Spa & Salon - The old Food Mart building was given a complete facelift,<br />
meeting today’s construction standards including environmentally sound building practices. The remodel/<br />
rebuild project simulates the era <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> Lakefield’s historical buildings including the train station and<br />
marina, setting a new standard in the Village for commercial properties.<br />
CUSTOMER SERVICE – Nightingale Nursing Registry<br />

2004 they have received national recognition in a third-party accreditation process.<br />
ENTREPRENEUR INNOVATION – R&J Machine<br />
Sponsored <strong>by</strong> RBC Royal Bank - Family owned and operated, they have designed and manufactured quality<br />
waterfront products for over 32 years. One <strong>of</strong> the first companies in the industry to <strong>of</strong>fer lift up docks, boat<br />
lifts and marine railways, they now also design and build suspended boathouses. They recently fabricated a<br />
glass boathouse that won the Governor General’s award for architecture.<br />
ENVIRONMENTAL – Lakefield College School<br />
Sponsored <strong>by</strong> MASS Environmental Services Inc. LCS was the first independent school in Canada to install<br />
an in-vessel composter that converts food waste into compost which is used on LCS grounds, improving<br />
the school’s waste diversion rate <strong>by</strong> 30%. LCS is also the only school in Canada to have two LEED Certified<br />
buildings on campus.<br />

council to community events to volunteering as Health Care Coordinator at Camp <strong>Kawartha</strong>, Cathy is a<br />
dedicated volunteer. Some months the Health Care role amounts to fulltime hours. Currently, she is also<br />
Vice-President <strong>of</strong> the Board. “She pours her heart into everything she does for the Camp, and we are very<br />
privileged to have her as a volunteer!” says her nominator.<br />
RETAILER OF THE YEAR – Griffin’s Greenhouses<br />
Sponsored <strong>by</strong> Nexicom Inc. (Presented in memory <strong>of</strong> Brian Holmes, Lockside Trading.) - 2011 marks 35<br />
years in business. Many innovative products and services continue to entice customers – Garden Route<br />
participant, the urn club shows 50% growth in its second year, loyalty card has over 900 members (it also<br />
provides donations to breast cancer research), and an accessible and fresh store design.<br />
OUTSTANDING BUSINESS ACHIEVEMENT – <strong>Kawartha</strong> Country Wines<br />
Sponsored <strong>by</strong> County <strong>of</strong> Peterborough - As the only winery in the <strong>Kawartha</strong>s they have become a<br />
destination and the largest tourist draw in the Buckhorn area. They have the largest selection <strong>of</strong> wines<br />
in the province and have won numerous national and international awards. They use 100% Ontario grown<br />
fruit, sourcing as much as possible ‘close to home.’<br />
CORPORATE CITIzEN OF THE YEAR – Sue Mattucci<br />

twenty years <strong>of</strong> experience, growing Lockside Trading Company into a vibrant mainstay for residents and<br />

also had a positive impact on area businesses. Equally impressive is Mattucci’s commitment to supporting<br />
