Serving Children Statewide Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is Louisiana’s fastest-growing pediatric healthcare provider, treating more than 100,000 patients each year from parishes statewide as well as neighboring states. *Although the majority of patients come from our surrounding region, we have treated children from 41 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Parishes and Counties served East Baton Rouge Parish In 2016, our Children’s Hospital saw more than 7,100 children from Ascension parish in our inpatient facility, outpatient clinics and emergency room. More than 70% of families we serve are underinsured or on Medicaid.
Advancing Pediatric Care Severely-injured children often require the attention and expertise of multiple pediatric specialists. An excellent example of how we meet these children’s needs is our Cleft and Craniofacial Team. In 2010, we began building a team of specialists who could treat children with cleft lip, palate and craniofacial anomalies. Since then, our Cleft and Craniofacial Team has grown into a multidisciplinary group of physicians and healthcare professionals coordinated through a partnership between the LSU Department of Otolaryngology-Head “This recognition shows Our Lady of the Lake’s dedication to ensuring that patients and their families receive the highest standard of care,” said Dr. Laura Hetzler, director of the Cleft and Craniofacial Team. “It also assures patients and families that our team is among the best in the country and that Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is a first class destination for cleft and craniofacial services.” - Dr. Laura Hetzler and Neck Surgery, the LSU Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. This diverse team includes geneticists, neurosurgeons, oral surgeons, orthodontists, pediatric dentists, pediatricians and plastic surgeons as well as audiologists, speech language pathologists and social workers. Working together, the team coordinates the medical care of children while also supporting them emotionally and socially. In January 2016, the Cleft and Craniofacial Team earned full approval from the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and became the only team in the Baton Rouge area to earn this national designation.
