School Leadership Programmes
Our Leadership Development Programmes
ILA are pleased to offer two flagship programmes:
n For those in Middle leadership: subject, pastoral, phase leaders or those with responsibility
across a group of staff
n For those in Senior Leadership: those aspiring to or newly appointed in positions of senior
leadership with a whole school responsibility
Both programmes have common elements, which are shown in the diagram below:
Each programme follows a similar format with four stages and five modules related to:
1. Organisational leadership and management
2. Leading learning through quality teaching
3. Leading effective teams and managing others
4. Leading change and continuous improvement
5. Developing personal leadership skills and strategies

School Leadership Programmes
Typically both programmes will be delivered across a calendar year with the Middle Leadership
Programme having six face-to-face days and the Senior Leadership programme providing ten faceto-face
days. The precise structure of the programme will be negotiated with each client.
Throughout the programme an experienced facilitator team and an online facilitator will support
participants. The programme has two underlying elements:
n to support the personal and professional development of participants as leaders
n to effect change within participant schools in order to raise student levels of achievement.
To support their leadership development, participants are asked to complete a diagnostic test
related to leadership standards so they can track their improvement. Each middle leader
participant is asked to find either an in-school leadership coach or for senior leaders someone who
they trust who can act as their mentor throughout the life of the programme.
The face-to-face programme is underpinned by a high quality online platform, which is a both a
source of further study and investigation and a mechanism for networking programme participants
and building a learning community. The programme also offers an opportunity for participants to
undertake an Impact Research Project, which they are asked to present on the final day.
On successful completion of the programme support will be given to those wishing to use their new
learning to gain credits at Masters level with Nottingham University in the UK. As part of the
learning participants will have to produce a report related to personal and professional growth as a
leader and the impact of the project on their team or school.
Consultancy
ILA has access to a wide range of associates from all sectors in education. We offer consultancy
support to work with leaders, leadership teams and larger groups of staff in schools, government or
other education on matters related to education. Once your requirements have been established
we will prepare an outline of our work with focused inputs and clear outcomes.
Recent consultancy work has involved developing leadership standards and leadership programmes,
working with municipalities in respect of their role, advising government on matters of subject and
leadership policy.
Executive Coaching
Whilst our leadership programmes include elements of coaching ILA can also offer individual or
small group coaching. Coaching is a very powerful technique to support transformational change in
organisations. Recent coaching has included Directors and Aspirant Directors of Education, School
leaders and school leadership teams. Generally speaking coaching works best over an extended
period of time but with regular reviews the coaching relationship is evaluated against agree
criteria.
Please contact us for further details.
Working alongside ILA through our licensing
scheme
To help to build sustainability we invite those that work alongside ILA a licensed programme
alternative. To do this we will help and support the development of your facilitators to deliver
the programme. We offer a three-day face to face programme with the opportunity to be
assessed against a set of facilitation competencies. ILA will continue to offer support you when
you facilitate the programmes by hosting the online platform. In addition, we will continue to
update materials to make sure they are current, relevant and draw on the latest research and
findings.
In working alongside us you are joining an international network of education professionals and
the opportunity to network with other international organisations such as the International
Professional Development Association (IPDA).
