Whitey Morgan &
the 78’s Thursday
March 19th 10pm
The roots of country music
are despair, pain, sorrow
and anguish expressed
through song. Drinking,
prison, hitting the road,
loving and leaving
women—these are the
classic themes in country.
There are no flip-flops in
country music. There is no
Margaritaville or sandy
beaches to the Outlaws.
There is Whitey Morgan.
The Bel Airs
Friday March 20th
with special guests Bill Lupkin
& the Grifters & Miss Majors &
Minor Mood Swings
Fronted by brothers Dick and
Dave Pruitt on bass and elec-
tric guitars, with Michael
Cherry on drums, the Bel Airs
play a danceable mix with an
authentic but eclectic bluesy-
country-soul-and-rock-n-roll
sound influenced by the likes
of Wilson Picket, Slim Harpo,
Howlin' Wolf and Johnny Cash.
Performing together for more
than 20 years, the Pruitt
brothers' harmony vocal style
sets them apart in the con-
temporary music scene--
leading one reviewer to refer
to them as the "Everly Broth-
ers of Blues". David's "big gui-
tar" and Dick's howling vocals
over soulful, right-on rhythm
playing make this trio a pow-
erhouse..
Ace harp player and
vocalist Bill Lupkin
leads the equally
savvy Chicago
Blues Coalition
through a personal,
seasoned, rousing,
and accomplished
affirmation of the
Chicago Blues
scene of thirty years
ago.
The Perpetrators
with guest Trailer Park Jackson
Thursday March 26th
Once a not-so-well-kept secret in their
hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
where they acted as house band for visiting
blues legends Hubert Sumlin, Louisiana
Red, Paul "Wine" Jones and others - The
Perpetrators kicked things up a notch in
2006. A European tour capped off a Juno
nomination and a win at the Western Canadian
Music Awards. 2007 saw the band
continue to expand and grow with the release
their third album, "Tow Truck"
(nominated for WCMA's for oustanding
blues and independant album), the recording
of their just-released live album, 2008's
"Live at the High & Lonesome
Club" and a very
successful
second European tour
Work is underway for
their next record and
they plan to head into
the studio early in 2009.
