Description
Flamenco Completo: Guitar, Dance and Singing – all in one workshop!
Ulrika Frank (flamenco dancer) and Marija Temo (flamenco guitarist and singer), each
known for their informative teaching styles, have collaborated to offer a complete workshop
experience that unites dancers, guitarists, and singers in the same class. Flamenco
Completo is unique in that the workshop focuses on the structure of letras (verses of
flamenco singing), how the structure varies, and is improvised in different ways.
Dancers are given choreography to letras, guitarists learn to accompany both the letras
and the dance simultaneously, and singers are taught letras with melodic and structural
changes. While accompanying one another, dancers and guitarists will realize and learn
the adjustments needed in order to interpret the variations that occur in the singing.
Flamenco Completo will enhance your awareness to listen, react, and respond.
Workshop comments:
• "They are a phenomenal team and they produce something that both the seasoned flamenco
and the beginner would glean a lot from; and could possibly pull in more students who were
looking for an introduction to the art form. I am amazed at how they are able to reach the full
spectrum of students. They make you think and they also explain things well."
• "The biggest discovery was the difference between the feel in your body during marking
(relaxed, laid back) vs. the more forward-leaning position of a llamada or during footwork."
• "I was able to understand and hear the singer's cante progression, the structure of the letra,
the pitch changes, and resolving."
• I liked the overall togetherness and comprehension of how all elements (dancing, singing, playing)
work together. Very complete, excellent!"
Coaching comments:
• “…there was no question that you two couldn’t answer. Plus, you always gave a flourish and
embellishment to your answers. Great Job. It has enriched my listening and enjoyment and it
adds another dimension as I try to get better at accompanying. Fun.”
• "I love Flamenco Completo. Ulrika Frank and Marija Temo are a dynamic performing and
teaching duo. These artists break down and rebuild the subtle structures of Flamenco dance
and music with complete understanding, for students of all levels. They are supportive
teachers who share their love of Flamenco with passion and precision. Take their Coaching!"
• "...when a student takes Ulrika and Marija's coaching class, the sole focus is on the
development of the student...Each artist brings to the session her years of experience and
incredible teaching and performing strengths, and their single objective is to help you achieve
your flamenco goals...they are honest and direct in their teaching methods, enabling their
students to immediate improvement...This class is a MUST for students who want to take their
art to the next level."
Performance comments:
• “I enjoyed seeing the THREE performers, Marija, Ulrika and that other being that comes out
when Marija and Ulrika merge.”
• “Temo and Frank - Splendid and Mesmerizing!”
• “The two have performed together many times, and their ability to follow each other's rhythmic
and interpretive cues created a rich dramatic tension that resolved into massive applause from the
audience at the close of each piece.”
Flamenco Completo – Biography
While Ulrika Frank studied dance in her native Sweden at the University College of Dance
in Stockholm, earning a degree equal to a BFA in Dance and Dance Education, Marija
Temo received her Masters degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore,
talents of singing, and playing classical and flamenco guitar. In addition to their versatile
educational programs.
In 2008, after an extensive period of working together, they decided to combine their
teaching approaches and artistic talents to form a duo entitled Flamenco Completo,
workshop is unique in that it unites dancers, guitarists, and singers in the same class.
help prepare them for the workshop. In the coaching sessions, together they offer
