This year the college celebrates its 60th anniversary; guided by the
theme, “Embracing change: Soaring to new heights”. As we reflect on
our past and prepare for the future, we lift our collective voices in praise
to God who has kept and blessed us immeasurably; enabling us to make
sixty years of worthwhile contribution to nation building.
The college years are a time for growth, challenge and discovery. At
Moneague College, we encourage and prepare students to participate
fully in life, to take risks, to be self-advocates, and to create lasting
memories and relationships with peers and staff.
As an educational institution, we are not merely concerned with the
acquisition of facts, but also of values which help us improve the
different facets of mankind; to ensure that we leave the world a far
better place than we found it. A pivotal role of education lies in shaping
the personality of individuals into a healthy mind and body, that is
not only equipped with 21st century skills and aptitude required for
academic excellence but will help him to face the challenges of life in
a balanced and harmonious way. At Moneague College we work to
ensure that the system of education function as a catalyst in making
each student a balanced human being, having his/her core strengths
embedded in the learning experiences emanating from our rich
socio-cultural roots. I would like to laud the relentless efforts of our
Lecturers for giving their best in bringing out the best in each student.
I would also like to exhort the students to be always modest, humble
and disciplined, while being ready to expand the horizons of their
knowledge and skills by dreaming big and working hard.
This 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Yearbook is a milestone that
marks our growth, unfolds our imagination, and gives life to our
thoughts and aspirations. It unleashes a wide spectrum of creative
skills including writing, editing, research, designing, public relations
and photography. Producing a yearbook magazine in an institution as
complex as the Moneague College is, is no easy feat. I therefore wish to
congratulate the entire editorial team for their hard work and dedication
in making this dream come true. You have demonstrated clearly what
happens when strength, team work, persistence, hard-work, resilience
and courage, are engaged. Keep up the good work.
Best Wishes
It is with a deep sense of joy that I greet the Board, administration, staff,
students, other stake holders, the wider community and the nation that we
serve. I take great pleasure in saluting our past leaders for the foundation
that has been laid, and for the course that has been charted for the Moneague
College, resulting in the eminent institution which we have become. I proudly
acknowledge the accomplishments of our former students who have excelled
in diverse endeavors, and who have responded to the call-to-service in the
highest echelons of our society and across the world.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Moneague College, and as we
celebrate this milestone we do so firmly convinced that the institution has
achieved the purpose of its original charter. Still, we are confronted by new
societal demands, faced with unprecedented education needs, challenged by
a rapidly changing academic environment, and at the same time buffeted by
dwindling financial support. So, it is with an appreciation of these emerging
realities that we celebrate our diamond jubilee under the theme: “Embracing
Change....Soaring to new Heights.”
As we commemorate six decades of service in education, let us be mindful of
the next sixty years ahead. Ultimately, we must transform our mission to one
analogous to the spacecraft ‘Voyager’ on its interstellar mission to the unknown.
Like Voyager, as we soar, we must endeavor to be equipped with cutting-edge
technology, self-sustaining mechanisms, the ability to navigate new frontiers,
and the readiness to acquire and produce useful knowledge apt for enriching
humanity. Let us as an institution play our part in preparing our youth as they
aspire to achieve the change that the world hopes for.
I remain resolute in my belief that the Moneague College will gain its place
in the annals of history as one of the top-tier tertiary institutions in Jamaica.
As the flagship college in the county of Middlesex, we continue to improve
our standards by assuring quality through effective systems, processes and
procedures; and by attracting and maintaining an adequate staff complement
with the requisite experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities and
attitude. We will continue to produce graduates appropriately educated and
trained for private industries, the public sector, not-for-profit organizations,
philanthropic ventures and other areas.
I firmly believe that as an institution we can assume our responsibilities to
the nation with confidence, and that we can continue to provide hope to
thousands of Jamaicans seeking to advance their education. Like an eagle
flying high above the clouds, we soar majestically with the winds of change
beneath our wings. As the eagle’s eyes survey the career landscape, let us seize
all opportunities for nation building; and may the Eternal Father bless us, as we
continue to serve the great nation of Jamaica, land we love.
