Dear friends, 

Criticism of the pharmaceutical 

industry as an organised system 

of deception (see ’Der Spiegel’ 

magazine, 11.8.2003) and of the 

investment industry, which is 

operating the “billion dollar 

business with disease”, has 

become a national preoccupation. 

There isn’t a newspaper 

that isn’t printing high-profile 

reports on the pharmaceutical 

industry’s unscrupulous machinations, 

a TV channel that isn’t 

pursuing this theme, or a publishing 

company without some 

sensational anti-pharma book 

on its list. The credibility of the 

pharmaceutical industry has 

plummeted to zero and health 

reform, underpinned solely by 

the pharmaceutical companies, 

has long been a political impossibility. 

Years ago, I was already one 

of the first to pillory the 

unscrupulous “business with 

disease”. Six years ago, I stated 

publicly: “We declare the pharmaceutical 

industry, whose 

business is based on safeguarding 

the continued existence of 

diseases, to be unethical and 

irreconcilable with the fundamental 

principles of human 

rights. We demand immediate 

legislative measures to prohibit 

this industry’s business activities”. 

Now my predictions are 

becoming reality. 

This gives rise to new tasks: 

the development of a new 

health care service that serves 

the health interests of millions of 

patients, and no longer the 

profit interests of a handful of 

pharmaceuticals shareholders. 

Cellular medicine is the basis of 

this new health care system. Cellular 

medicine is cause-orientated 

and for that reason alone 

scientifically superior to merely 

symptom-focused pharmaceutical 

medicine. It is also for this 

reason that the pharmaceutical 

industry has been fighting me as 

its arch enemy for over a 

decade. 

Highlighting the perilous state 

of affairs was only a first step for 

me. Now we are faced with a far 

greater task: the development of 

a new, patient-orientated health 

system. In my series of lectures 

in the autumn of 2003, I will 

appeal clearly and directly to the 

people of Germany, Austria and 

Switzerland: We, the people of 

Europe and the world, must 

recognise that health is not a 

human right that we can take for 

granted, but that we must work 

actively for it. Help us to 

develop a new health system!

some years ago, in order to give 

as many, mainly young, people

this global campaign to eradicate 

cardiovascular disease and 

other endemic illnesses. In addition,

The history of the Frankfurt 

book fair goes back to the 15th 

century, when Johannes Gutenberg 

invented the art of printing 

only a few kilometres away 

from Frankfurt. Up to the 17th 

century, Frankfurt’s importance 

as Europe’s book-trading centre 

remained undisputed, though 

this role passed to Leipzig in the 

18th century, following political 

and cultural upheavals. 

Having been held for more 

than 50 years, Frankfurt is the 

world’s biggest book fair and 

synonymous with international 

cultural activities. With yearround 

services and information 

for the international book 

world, the Frankfurt Book Fair 

is a global market place of ideas

What Does It Really Mean…? 

Negative list: Legislation and a 

government decree have stated 

that authorised health insurers 

are not allowed to pay for certain 

medicines. This negative 

list has grown longer and 

longer since 1991. Examples of 

excluded medicines are those 

for colds, laxatives, and travel 

sickness pills. 

Positive list: In order to save 

more money, the government is 

not only planning to exclude 

certain medicines from July, but 

also to authorise health insurers 

to pay only for those that have 

been expressly approved by the 

government and are thus admitted 

onto the ’positive list’. 

About 20 percent of all medicines 

not privately paid for in 

the past will fail to make this 

positive list and will have to be 

paid for by the insured themselves 

or disappear from the 

market in future. However, 

many people doubt that experts 

have been involved in drawing 

up this list, because it includes 

dubious substances such as 

pig’s testicle or cow’s anus. On 

the other hand, politicians are 

deleting useful substances, such 

as folic acid, from the list.‘

Positive List 

Leads to More Amputations 

Frankfurt/M., Kiel (dpa). The 

positive list of medicines 

planned by the federal government 

will, say experts, exacerbate 

the suffering of chronically 

sick people. Professor Curt 

Diehm, the president of the German 

blood vessel league, envisages 

hard times ahead for the 

4.5 million patients who suffer 

from severe circulation problems 

in their legs. They are at 

risk of more operations and amputations 

since “effective medicines 

with few side effects are 

apparently to be deleted without 

substitution”. 

Professor Eberhard Standl, the 

president of the German diabetes 

union, and Count L. 

Dohna, the manager of the German 

diabetic association selfhelp 

group, have also expressed 

criticism. In particular, Dohna 

has focused on the absence 

from the list of the active ingredients 

acarbose and alpha lipoic 

acid.

Unable to Absorb Medicines

of almost every third 

person is incapable of properly 

breaking down and absorbing 

certain medicines in the view of 

experts. According to Professor 

Joachim Bauer from the department 

for psychosomatic medicine 

at Freiburg university clinic, 

genetic predisposition means 

that the capacity for the natural 

detoxification of the body is 

massively reduced in more than 

30 percent of the population. 

These patients, he explains, cannot 

cope with what are regarded 

as normal standard doses of 

psychotropic drugs, certain 

medicines for rheumatism and

that some patients show severe 

side effect reactions.

Fewer Than Expected are 

Dying from Cancer in the EU 

Milan (dpa). The number of patients 

dying from cancer in Europe 

is increasing more slowly 

than expected. According to a 

study commissioned by the European 

society for cancer research 

in Milan, around 940,500 

people died from malignant tumours 

in the EU in the year 

2000, which is 92,500 fewer 

than predicted by scientists. 

However, the number of 

women dying from lung cancer 

is excessive. Fifteen per cent 

fewer men than expected died 

from lung carcinomas (a total of 

139,840), while in women the 

figures were 32 percent higher 

than predicted (a total of 

44,140). Prostate cancer was also 

responsible for more deaths 

than expected.

At the beginning of August, a 

pilot project took place at the Dr. 

Rath Health Academy in Wittenberg 

to train ’Advisers for cellular 

medicine’. 15 Advisers in the Dr. 

Rath Health Academy took part. 

Christa Rath, the Manager of the 

Wittenberg Dr. Rath Health Academy, 

welcomed the future Advisers. 

We are there at last! Many years 

of preparation will come to an 

end when, in September 2003, 

the first seminar of the Wittenberg 

Health Academy training programme 

begins. Dr. Rath founded 

the Health Academy in order to 

meet the ever-increasing demand 

for information and training from 

many Advisers. 

The future training in Wittenberg 

will impart sound knowledge 

about bodily functions, natural 

health and cellular medicine. 

During the courses, participants 

will be introduced to the foundations 

of a new, natural health system. 

Important aspects of the 4week 

or 8-weekend courses will 

be the teaching of fundamental

Katwoude well-attended 

Dutch training team 

On Saturday 16 August there was 

a lecture in Katwoude on the 

subject of cancer and how it can 

be treated with the help of cellular 

medicine formulas. The lecture 

was attended by about 40 

people including customers, consultants 

and other interested parties 

from the North of Holland. 

The program began with a general 

introduction about cellular 

medicine. Cellular medicine 

traces many diseases back to the 

level of the cell. Essential nutrients 

such as vitamins, minerals, 

amino acids and trace elements 

support many important biochemical 

reactions in every body 

cell. Body cells may not function 


properly if their supply of vitamins 

and other bio-energy substances 

is inadequate. This can 

lower the body’s defences and 

increase its susceptibility to disease. 

The exact location of the problem 

in the cell is fundamental to 

cellular medicine. Diseases can 

be divided into two categories: 

1. Diseases caused by a shortage 

of fuel in the cell’s ‘power 

plant’, 

2. Diseases due to a defect in the 

control of cell metabolism in 

the cell’s core. 

It is this latter problem which is 

relevant to cancer. A faulty cell 

can cause cancer if the cell’s ‘soft- 

ware’ issues an order for cellular 

proliferation and the mass production 

of collagen-digesting enzymes. 

The greatest danger of 

cancer growth arises when cells 

occur in the lymphatic or blood 

vessel systems. A tumour in one 

particular place is rarely lifethreatening. 

However around 90 

% of all deaths from cancer are 

caused by metastasis, when cancer 

cells invade other organs and 

tissue. 

The treatments offered by conventional 

medicine were also discussed 

during the lecture. For a 

long time the only way of treating 

cancer was to surgically remove 

the tumour and the surrounding 

tissue, and this is still the main 

method of treatment. Malignant 

cells can be completely or partially 

destroyed by radiation (radiotherapy). 

Radiotherapy is normally 

used in conjunction with other 

treatments, for example to destroy 

any cancer cells remaining 

after surgery. Since the Sixties, 

cancer has also been treated with 

cytostatics, drugs which counteract 

cell division. There are many 

kinds of cytostatics, and susceptibility 

to any particular kind varies 

from one type of cancer to another. 

Often a combination of 

these treatments is used. Different 

types of treatment are used for 

some types of cancer, such as 

hormone therapy for breast cancer 

or prostate cancer. All of these 

treatments have serious side effects.

After a short break, the lecture 

continued by discussing (supportive) 

therapy using cellular 

medicine, with an in-depth exploration 

of the main tasks of vital 

cell materials in the treatment 

of cancer. These tasks include reinforcing 

the body’s immune system 

(using vitamin C, copper, 

zinc and arginine for example), 

protecting all body cells and tissues 

(with the aid of antioxidants 

such as vitamin C, selenium, 

bioflavonoids, EGCG), strengthening 

the connective tissue in the 

body (including with lysine, proline, 

vitamin C, copper and manganese) 

and inhibiting collagendigesting 

enzymes that produce 

cancer cells in large numbers (i.e. 

with the use of lysine and 

EGCG). The main aims of cellular 

medicine here are to strengthen 

the connective tissue in the 

body, to prevent the destruction 

of connective tissue and to 

strengthen the defensive system. 

Strengthening the connective tissue 

and fighting uncontrolled 

connective tissue loss due to collagen-digesting 

enzymes is of 

major importance in helping prevent 

the spread of cancer cells 

through the body. 

Guests were then invited to 

watch a video entitled “Cellular 

Medicine Parts 1 and 2”. The 

video showed how collagen-digesting 

enzymes can help cancer 

cells spread uncontrolled 

through the body, as a result of 

which metastasis can take place. 

The video also illustrated how 

high doses of nutrients such as 

lysine and EGCG can block these 

enzymes and stop the spread of 

cancer cells through the body. 

Finally, the major results of the 

research being done by the

(lysine, proline, vitamin C and 

EGCG) were discussed. This has 

demonstrated that high doses of 

nutrients are able to stop the 

spread of cancer cells. This research 

is described in detail in 

the brochure “The Victory Over 

Cancer Is At Hand”. 

After the lecture there was ample 

opportunity for visitors to ask 

questions, an opportunity of 

which they made extensive use. 

They also exchanged experiences 

and had an opportunity to 

approach the nutritionists on 

hand for personal help and advice. 

There was also a display 

providing comprehensive information 

in the form of books, 

brochures, course prospectuses 

and videos. 

The many responses which we 

received from visitors suggest 

that it was an informative and 

meaningful afternoon. Here is a 

selection of their comments: ‘It 

was a clear and interesting presentation 

and I understand the use 

of vitamins much better now. I 

have been using them in the past 

but not the right ones - now I

know better,’ ‘I’m sure you’ll do 

very well! Carry on!’ and ‘It’s still 

a complex subject but I thought it 

was a good lecture.” 

However one or two visitors 

commented that there is often 

confusion about products, and I 

would just like to respond to that 

in more detail. We come under 

the Goods Act which in practical 

terms means that we are not allowed 

to make any health claims 

about our products. We cannot 

name any products in conjunction 

with health information, and 

so we often have to ‘skate 

around’ things which may give 

the impression that we are evading 

the issues. This is not our intention 

however. We are able to 

provide well-founded information 

about the effects of nutrients, 

so if you have any questions or 

comments on this matter you can

‘I’m an adviser, 

not a doctor’ 

It is now four years since Archie Bruinier first heard about Dr. Rath and cellular medicine. Today 

it is hard to imagine that at that point in 1998 this active, energetic man almost couldn’t 

go on. His story sounds familiar: a demanding job, studies on the side and a lot of stress in his 

private life.

Then things started to go wrong. 

“In 1998 I fell seriously ill,” recalls 

Archie. “For two years I 

had suffered from vague complaints 

such as chest pains and 

the usual pain spreading into 

my arm.” He had just completed 

his Master of Business Administration 

when he suddenly got 

worse while on holiday in 

Spain. Archie, “I could not take 

any solid food, during conversations 

I would drop out completely 

and I couldn’t even walk 

short distances.” 

Back from his holiday, Archie 

Bruinier went straight to his GP. 

The GP referred him to a cardiologist 

who gave him an ultrasound 

scan, an ECG and a cycling 

test. The verdict: it’s all in 

your mind. But Bruinier was not 

satisfied with this and at the second 

opinion he was given a special 

examination. He was injected 

with a contrast medium and 

then an MRI was taken. He then 

underwent a cycling test and the 

MRI was repeated. Archie adds, 

“I deliberately ate a lot beforehand 

and went for a drive in the 

car - the kind of things that usu- 

ally gave me pains. I said to my 

wife: ‘If my heart gives me trouble 

it’ll happen in the hospital 

and they will be able to see it.’” 

After the tests the doctor 

called to say that ‘yes, there is 

something wrong’, and a whole 

chemist’s shop-full of medicine 

was delivered to Archie’s home. 

Meanwhile his condition continued 

to worsen and finally he 

was called in for a cardiac 

catheterisation. “I sat there at the 

specialist’s where we were being 

processed 4 or 5 people at a 

time. The doctor just thumbed 

through my records and decided 

to examine without even 

looking at me. At that moment I 

jumped to my feet. I wanted to 

know what was going to happen 

before I felt like agreeing to 

anything.” 

Coronary artery 

completely blocked 

Eventually the examination 

went ahead and it showed that 

his left coronary artery was completely 

‘silted up’ and his heart 

had just 30 % of its pumping capacity. 

“Then my wife asked 

how it was possible for the specialists 

to say that there was 

nothing wrong 2 months previously. 

But this was denied of 

course. You can imagine that 

my confidence in ultrasound 

and all that sort of thing quickly 

vanished.” 

The only reason Archie Bruinier 

is sitting here today is that 

he has always been fit. “Because 

I play a lot of sport, my body 

made hairline vessels between 

the two coronary arteries. That’s 

what saved me. That just shows 

you what the body can do by itself.” 


The ‘Why Book’ 

Archie later heard about Dr. 

Rath from Netty Bosveld. “She 

gave me the book ‘Why animals 

don’t get heart attacks…’ and I 

read it in a single day. It was exactly 

the information I needed! 

The power of the book lies in its 

clear and simple language. It 

was immediately obvious to me 

that the answer lay in vitamins. 

I started right away with a selection 

of high dosage food supplements 

and my body responded 

very well. I felt a bit 

better again and eventually got 

some of my condition back. I 

could climb stairs again and ride 

a bike, but above all I felt relaxed 

once more.” 

More assertive 

Armed with this information and 

experience, Archie’s attitude to 

the medical profession changed. 

“I went from passively accepting 

things to being more assertive. I 

still kept taking all the medicines 

but with every prescription 

I wanted to know exactly 

why I was getting the medicines 

and what they did.” 

In the meantime Archie had 

consulted a different cardiologist, 

having lost faith in the first 

one after his various examinations. 

The reaction of this second 

cardiologist to vitamins 

was, ‘Their effect has not been 

proven. And if you don’t take 

my advice on this it will definitely 

affect your insurance.” 

Eventually Archie ended up with 

a third cardiologist who wanted 

him to take the drugs but had no 

problem with the vitamins 

Archie was taking as well. Because 

one of his coronary arteries 

was completely blocked, 



Archie had to have bypass surgery. 

He used vitamins to prepare 

himself for the operation 

as much as possible. “I felt enormous 

benefit from taking them 

and I can only urge anyone facing 

surgery to do likewise. I actually 

believe it is a must because 

it certainly speeded my 

recovery after the operation.” 

By now Archie was so enthusiastic 

about the effect of high 

dosage food supplements that 

he became an adviser himself, 

and talked to all kinds of people 

while he was recuperating. 

Rest 

After his operation Archie Bruinier 

had to convalesce for a 

long time, but after four months 

he started to feel restless again. 

He began his post-graduate 

course at the Universiteit 


Twente in Enschede, a daytime 

course lasting one year. After 

that it seemed that he needed 

the rest after all, so Archie took 

it pretty easy for six months. 

Since then he has set up his 

own business, ‘Master coaches’, 

and since 2002 has been using 

his knowledge with the advisers. 

“I support the advisers by 

means of coaching. Terry has 

trained the advisers very well 

but that was mainly on the technical 

side of things. I coach the 

advisers in their verbal skills, 

showing them how to talk to 

new people, how to speak to 

large groups. The first ten seconds 

of an interview or meeting 

are crucial as that’s when things 

usually go wrong. It is still a trial 

project but it’s going very 

well!” One of the advisers told 

Archie that he was having difficulty 

getting people to really 

‘stay’. Of 15 interviews he conducted, 

he had just 1 person 

who actually started to use vitamins 

and stayed with them. 

Now, one year on, the same adviser 

has 30 people.We meet 

and talk at the local community 

centre. That means talking to a 

group of 30 to 70 people.” 

Archie Bruinier has had so 

much success with his courses 

that he has even been approached 

by alternative therapists 

wanting information about 

his course project. 

Support 

“Being an adviser is rewarding 

work, but hard. We don’t diagnose 

people, we just advise 

them. And - though this may 

not be so important - we listen, 

something you often don’t get 

at the doctor’s. We help people 

to understand their illnesses. I 

think in future advisers will 

need increasing support 

though, because it’s getting 

tougher emotionally. We used 

to deal mainly with illnesses 

such as diabetes and high blood 

pressure, serious yes, but not 

life-threatening. Now we are 

dealing with cancer too. We are 

often giving people a last hope 

but if we fail we can also come 

in for a lot of criticism. When 

we give information people often 

ask ‘Are you some kind of 

doctor?’ ‘I tell them, ‘No, I’m not 

a doctor but I believe that I do 

know a lot about vitamins.’” 

Archie stresses that it’s not 

just hope and giving information 

that is important, providing 

aftercare is too. And that is difficult. 

Even so, Archie still firmly 

believes that cellular medicine 

is the best natural method 

at the present time. 

As well as being an adviser 

and coaching others, Archie also 

works for the Dr. Rath Health 

Foundation, and with this in 

mind he wishes to send a message 

to the readers, “There’s going 

to be a referendum. What 

many people don’t know is that 

a ban on all natural forms of 

medicine is on the way. For 

there to be a referendum, 

40,000 people have to sign a 

petition at their local council offices 

as a first step. If that succeeds, 

a further 600,000 signatures 

will be needed - provided 

the referendum law hasn’t 

been abolished by then. This 

will require an immense 

amount of organisation and cooperation. 

And people will 

have to respond by themselves”.

More and More Self-Help 

Groups Are Asking Us 

For many years Dr. Matthias Rath 

has focused strongly on the area 

of information and publicity work 

for cellular medicine. The successes 

of cellular medicine have 

already been recorded in many 

clinical studies. 

Many doctors, therapists and 

members of self-help groups 

have frequently doubted the 

credibility of these successes. This 

has changed radically in recent 

months. For the past year or so, 

Matthias Rath B.V. has been 

keeping a list of doctors and therapists 

who register as working 

with cellular medicine and advise 

their patients to use cell vitality 

substances. There were very few 

names on this list to begin with, 

but in recent months it has 

swelled to include over 200 doctors 

and therapists in Germany,

Furious 

It makes me furious when 

sweeping statements are made, 

clearly without checking and 

only based on dubious “scientific” 

reports, thus manipulating 

public opinion, especially that 

of patients. 

I assume that such comments 

are influenced more by a lack of 

knowledge than by the interests 

of lobbyists, but this is a highly 

dangerous state of affairs. 

My wife contracted three different 

types of cancer tumours. 

Besides the operations, she had 

to submit to more than 50 radiation 

treatment sessions and radioiodine 

treatment. On the 

long journey through more than 

16 years of cancer, my wife and 

I have encountered many different 

medical approaches. In 

1990, we stopped counting 

when we reached method number 

40! In all these years we met 

great lack of understanding and 

narrow-mindedness, having to 

fight for many things that 

should really be possible without 

a struggle. Mainstream medicine 

described my wife as a 

treatment burnout case and 

gave her six months to live in 

August 1986. But we have been 

successful in our search for alternative 

treatments.

Commission (www.codexalimentarius.net)

again this year, from 4 - 7 November

more, to try to make all effective

world – and thus to prohibit

Four years have already passed 

since he was cured. Years in 

which this man from Thüringen 

has not simply sat back and 

relaxed in his pensioner’s chair 

but has instead spoken to many 

people. At the invitation of 

Matthias Rath B.V., this hale and 

hearty 70-year-old has spoken 

about his personal experiences 

with cellular medicine at many 

events. His story has given and 

continues to give hope and 

courage to many sick people. 

But Werner Pilniok did not 

only address other people at 

large-scale events. He sees one 

of his most important tasks as 

spreading information in his 

locality. In Wünschendorf near 

Gera, with its population of

his experience of local information work. This former lung cancer patient came to cellular 

medicine, like many other Advisers, after an arduous journey through mainstream medicine. 

On finding cellular medicine, Werner Pilniok not only regained his health but also found the 

opportunity to pass on his experiences and knowledge to others.

the outset. “This has nothing to 

do with persuading people or 

talking them into something. 

No, I simply recount my positive 

experiences and invite many 

who know nothing about cellular 

medicine to engage further 

with it and its scientific achieve- 



ments. Initially, I give them a lot 

of information material to take 

home with them and then I 

invite them to my place for a 

conversation,” says Werner Pilniok. 

Through this information 

work Werner Pilniok reaches 

many people, some of whom 

have also become Advisers in 

the Dr. Rath Health Alliance. 

Local Advisers 

“In recent years I have changed 

the way I organise my advisory 

work. Enquiries from people 

from all regions had become so 

numerous that my living room 

sometimes seemed as cramped 

as a dovecot and was literally 

bursting at the seams. So, in 

April 2000, I organised the first 

public information evening in 

my town and quickly found suitable 

premises for this at a local 

inn. More than 20 interested 

people attended this evening, 

which increased my confidence,” 

reports Pilniok. 168 

people came to one of the most 

recent information evenings, 

including increasing numbers of 

doctors, pharmacists and health 

insurance representatives. 

As time went by, Werner Pilniok 

became ever more courageous. 

He discussed these 

issues with his doctors, talked to 

pharmacists about cellular medicine 

and offered to address selfhelp 

groups as guest speaker. 

He says of this: “I believe that if 

I begin something then I should 

try to do it properly. To bring 

about a change of thinking in 

our health care system, doctors 

and therapists must also, first 

and foremost, hear of the possibilities, 

opportunities and successes 

of cellular medicine.” 


Adviser Pilniok always has a full engagement diary 

Werner Pilniok has found this 

information work arduous and 

often discouraging. But he has 

never given up. After initial setbacks, 

things have now taken 

off. “Now even professors and 

doctors are asking me about cellular 

medicine and want to 

know everything about its constituents 

and the way it works!” 

Mainstream Doctors 

Ask for More Information 

In the course of his advisory 

work in the Dr. Rath Health 

Alliance, Werner Pilniok has 

made contact with many hundreds 

of fellow sufferers. These 

people often pass on informa- 

tion about cellular medicine to 

their doctors or naturopaths. 

For several months, the man 

from Wünschendorf has been 

receiving many phone calls 

from doctors wanting further 

information about cellular medicine, 

including GPs from 

Thüringen and all of Germany, 

as well as hospital professors. 

“Doctors speak to me with 

much trepidation. No one is 

meant to know that they are 

interested in cellular medicine, 

let alone that they are ordering 

cell vitality substances. 

I particularly remember a 

phone call from a specialist. He 

said that he felt ashamed, as a

doctor, to have to call a layman 

and former cancer patient: he 

was unable to help his wife who 

was ill with cancer, and he was 

now placing all his hopes in cellular 

medicine”. 

On another occasion, a GP 

quite openly recommended cellular 

medicine to his patients. 

He said that there was at present 

nothing better on the market 

and, if they could afford to do 

so, they should go to Pilniok 

and order the products. 

This change of heart by doctors 

and therapists in relation to 

cellular medicine and towards 

local Advisers in the Dr. Rath 

Werner Pilniok in action during an information evening 

Health Alliance is symptomatic. 

Werner Pilniok appeared before 

highly qualified doctors and scientists 

and spoke of his experiences 

during a political discussion 

group in Oranienburg. He 

had been granted precisely 20 

minutes of their time. Well pre- 

pared, he got everyone’s attention 

as he compared the costs of 

traditional mainstream medicine 

with those of cellular medicine 

in the treatment of cardiovascular 

disease. His sensational recovery 

from lung cancer also 

astonished the doctors. After the 

official part of the event, the 

doctors shook hands with him 

and asked him for further information. 

Self-Help Groups Now Freed 

from Restrictions 

“In July last year, as a former 

cancer patient, I wrote a letter to 

many cancer self-help groups. I 

described my case history and 

offered to speak about cellular 

medicine. Yet, I received only 

four replies from 100 letters. 

This greatly disappointed me 

until I learned the reason. The 

German cancer help group had 

written an internal circular to 


their self-help groups advising 

them to have nothing to do with 

the “charlatan Rath”. I heard this 

from a cancer patient who came 

to my talks despite this warning 

and who continues to take Dr. 

Rath’s cell vitality substances. At 

the time, he told me that he 

couldn’t care less what the 

group’s directors recommended. 

All that counted for 

him was finding something that 

personally helped him in his 

battle against cancer.” 

With his letter, the adviser 

from Thüringen had invaded the 

hallowed ground of the pharmaceutical 

industry, protected 

over decades. The source of 

funding for many self-help 

groups and the influence this 

gives over patients is, after all, 

an open secret… 

After this action, Werner Pilniok 

also received threatening 

letters and calls. A doctor even

phoned him to threaten him 

with legal action, if he undermined 

her patients any further. 

Some of her cancer patients no 

longer wished to have 

chemotherapy or radiotherapy, 

but preferred the method 

advised by Pilniok. He said of 

this: “These calls did affect me, 

but they also showed that we 

are on the right path. If more 

and more patients speak to their 

doctors about cellular medicine, 

then these doctors will soon be 

unable to ignore it any longer”. 

No End in Sight 

Werner Pilniok and his wife are 

very committed to the Dr. Rath 

Health Alliance. They communicate 

passionately with other 

people about cellular medicine 

and are glad to share their own 

experiences to help in the battle 

against cancer. When someone 

phones up and asks “Is this the 

local Dr. Rath branch?” then 

Werner and Brunhilde Pilniok 

smile and are pleased to be able 

to help yet another person. 

“The best moments are when 

former patients phone and 

thank me for my care and help”,

No one believes a liar…

Didn’t our parents always warn 

us that ’No one believes a liar’ 

or ’Don’t cry wolf’! How often 

have we said such things to our 

children? 

Yes, they’ve been caught redhanded 

lying to justify the war 

against Iraq, which left thousands 

dead, destroyed a country 

and led it into still greater 

hunger and poverty. The world 

has caught Bush and Blair in the 

act! 

They have lied so much that 

it beggars belief. They have invented 

stories, twisted facts, 

omitted things or made things 

up about supposed weapons of 

mass destruction. They have 

served up lies about uranium 

purchases in Africa to the public 

– in spite of what better-informed 

sources knew! They 

have talked about secret 

weapons caches and atomic 

weapons development programmes, 

invented military research 

programmes and fabricated 

information about Iraqi 

plans, – all lies to set military attacks 

in motion! They have 

claimed that Iraq had links with 

terrorists – lie after lie! 

As children, we were punished 

for our ’tall stories’; we 

would get a bad conscience and 

blush. Messrs. Bush and Blair 

and their governments seem 

wholly impervious to such feelings. 

They are carrying on lying 

shamelessly: lies to cover up 

lies. They are saying that they 

knew nothing, or did not know 

enough; and when they own up 

to something, they find a justification 

for their lies in the same 

breath, even if it is just another 

lie. For instance, the lie that 

their main concern in waging 

the war was to promote democracy 

and human rights. Regrets, 

remorse, insight, repentance? 

Not a bit of it! 

Let’s lay a bet; they will go on 

lying because they have to, because 

truth is the first casualty 

of war. 

They have to go on lying. 

That’s the only way they can (or 

think they can) continue to influence 

world public opinion, 

or at least pull the wool over its 

eyes. They do this for themselves 

and for the people behind 

the scenes, their controllers 

and financial supporters. 

They serve the interests of 

their paymasters, who finance 

them (and their elections). The 

old country saying that ’He who 

pays the piper calls the tune’ 

still holds true. 

At our Peace and Health Congress 

in June in The Hague, we 

stated who was responsible in 

no uncertain terms, highlighting 

how the war benefits this group 

politically, financially, psychologically 

and strategically. This 

group is none other than the 

pharmaceutical industry, which 

needs the war in order to continue 

and safeguard its ’business 

with disease’ on a global 

scale. 

Even before the outbreak of 

war, we stressed that it could 

only be waged with lies. Very 

quickly – perhaps even more 

quickly than we expected ourselves 

– we were proved right 

by the response to publicity 

about this web of deceit. With 

his appeals, personal letters, announcements, 

and particularly 

because of the event in The 

Hague, Dr. Rath has helped 

bring the tissue of lies to public 

attention. All of you have 

helped to spread this information 

and our network has now 

grown wider, more diverse and 

international. 

But this war and the peace 

campaigns in which many people 

have taken part throughout 

the world have demonstrated

truth will out!. We have revealed 

them for what they are. More 

and more people have seen 

through these lies, have started 

reflecting and become critical, 

recognising that they were intended 

to be taken for a ride and 

that they were meant to be cannon 

fodder and mindless sheep, 

contrary to their interests in 

peace and health. Because 

those who lie to support the war 

also lie to undermine health. 

How often have we drawn attention 

to this in the pages of 

’Rath International’? 

This is the other aspect of the 

lies! Knowledge is growing that 

the ‘Lords of the Lies’ and the 

people behind them are deceiving 

us, and that they have to deceive 

us in order to carry on the 

’business with disease’. Because 

we will only continue to be captives 

of their ‘business with disease’, 

if we allow them to keep 

lying to us and believe that the 

pharmaceutical industry invests 

in health and that pharmaceutical 

drugs combat illness. 

Nevertheless, we can be a little 

proud of ourselves! 

Through the work of Dr. 

Rath, through the education and 

information work, the many 

events that we have organised 

and every conversation with 

friends and neighbours, the edifice 

of lies of the business with 

disease and war is wobbling. 

More and more people are 

pausing for thought as a result 

and the world is changing and 

growing more truthful, thus becoming 

a place of greater peace 

and health. We have already 

made some progress on this 

path. Otherwise the pharmaceu- 


tical side would not be so aggressive. 

Every lie revealed and every 

scandal uncovered is a nail in 

the coffin of the pharmaceutical 

industry – and we are hammering 

hard. We are nailing these 

lies as hard as we can because 

war is a crime and the ’business 

with disease’ is a million fold 

abuse of human life. 

That is why we are continuing 

our work of enlightenment and 

will pursue the indictment at the 

International Court in The 

Hague against all those who 

wage war and the people behind 

them everywhere. That is 

why we shall build up the 

Health Alliance and that is why 


will continue with its education 

and information campaigns, 

and, above all, the European 

referendum. Lies only work as 

long as people believe them and 

let them rule their lives. 

… just imagine: the next lie 

comes and no one believes it! 

Yes, then we shall really have a 

chance to attain peace and 

health. So it really is worth being 

part of this most profoundly 

humane task for the future.

for Events in 

The Hague 

Following the Peace and 

Health Congress in The 

Hague, we have received 

many reactions from product 

users and Advisers. The basic 

tenor of these first reactions 

has been their positive assessment 

of this historic weekend. 

Many advisers of the Health 

Alliance have voiced their 

shared feeling of great respect 

for Dr. Matthias Rath’s courageous 

and warm-hearted 

commitment. Opposition to 

George Bush and the pharmaceutical 

cohorts is long 

overdue. It is good that there 

are such people as Dr. Rath in 

the world and Dr. Rath should 

definitely continue his good 

work. 

The Congress organised by 


has encouraged many 

Advisers to collect signatures 

for the Hague Resolution locally, 

so that further progress 

can become possible. Many 

Advisers have expressed their 

support for Dr. Rath and his 

aims. Congress participants 

found lectures by the international 

guest speakers very interesting, 

opening the eyes of 

everyone to the machinations 

of the international pharmaceutical 

industry.

The Winds of Change Are Blowing 

for the Pharmaceutical Multinationals 

Interview with Dr. Anthony Rees from South Africa, who testified at the Hague Tribunal 

Dr. Anthony Rees 

All over the world, people are 

joining forces with Dr. Matthias 

Rath to work for a healthier and 

more just world. The South 

African Dr. Anthony Rees is particularly 

active in the international 

citizens’ movement. As the research 

director of the Honeri Institute 

in Cape Town, the 32year-old 

doctor has been working 

in the field of training and further 

training of naturopaths for 

years. A particular focus of the in- 

stitute is its education work on vitamins 

and the traditional use of 

South African medicinal herbs. 

Through his work, Dr. Rees 

has been confronted increasingly 

with hard facts about the pharmaceutical 

companies’ “business 

with disease”. For, seldom have 

the repercussions of the pharmaceutical 

multinationals’ ruthless 

policies come to expression in a 

such blatant way as in discussions 

about AIDS medicines in 

South Africa. Years ago, Dr. Rees 

and the naturopath Stuart 

Thompson founded the organisation 

’Pharmapact’ in response to 

this situation; it educates people 

about the unscrupulous business 

methods of the pharmaceutical 

groups in national campaigns 

and does not hesitate, to indict 

them in court either. Dr. Anthony 

Rees took part as witness in the 

Hague Tribunal some weeks ago 

in this role, revealing both the 

Rockefeller Group and the 

Carnegie Foundation to be the 

main opponents of effective natural 

remedies in South Africa. 

We are pleased that Dr. Anthony 

Rees has been willing to be interviewed, 

to give us greater insight 

into the battle for natural 

health – and also peace – from a 

South African perspective. 

Rath International: Dr. Rees, at 

the beginning of July you took 

part in a demonstration against 

US president George W. Bush in 

Cape Town. What were demonstrators 

demanding? 

Dr. Rees: The mood of opposition 

to US government policies 

has grown very fierce in my 

country. Not least because of 

America’s rigid refusal to cancel 

the patents for AIDS medicines in 

South Africa. A large proportion 

of these patents are owned by US 

company groups and are intended 

to assure them billion-dollar 

profits. But every ninth South 

African now has AIDS and cannot 

afford to pay for these medicines. 

In particular, the aggressive 

war against Iraq has also 

shaken many people awake in 

South Africa. Ultimately, this war 

does nothing except put the profits 

of a handful of companies 

above the interests of humanity. 

People have finally had enough 

and that is why many of the 

demonstrators demanded that we 

draw the obvious conclusions at 

last and indict members of the 

Bush administration as the perpetrators 

of war crimes. This demand 

has never been so clearly 

formulated before! 

Rath International: Dr. Rees, 

do you believe there is a link between 

this demand and Dr. Rath’s 

’open letter’, which was also subsequently 

published by local 

newspapers in South Africa? 

Dr. Rees: The ’open letters’ have

Bush is summed up perfectly on the poster 

spoken to the hearts of people in 

South Africa directly. For years, 

they have had daily experience 

of the consequences of ruthless 

pharmaceutical policies, in their 

own homes and among their 

friends. There would certainly be 

great support from the South 

African population for the public 

indictment of the Bush administration 

at the International Court 

in The Hague. President Bush 

was also aware of this when he 

made his sudden trip through 

several South African countries 

two weeks ago. Shortly before 

this, the Bush administration had 


announced that it was halting 

military support for South Africa, 

because our government opposes 

the immunity of US citizens at 

the International Court in The 

Hague. At the same time, a 

promise was suddenly issued to 

create a 15 billion dollar foundation 

for combating AIDS. 

It is clear that the Peace and 

Health Congress in The Hague 

organised by the Dr. Rath Health 

Foundation and Dr. Rath’s indictment 

of the pharmaceutical 

cartel have triggered hectic 

counter-activities. But no one 

gives much credence any longer 

to ’gifts’ from the USA or believes 

that this money will actually be 

used for sensible projects. Shortly 

before the Bush trip, it also became 

known that the administrator 

of the 15 billion dollar foundation 

is none other than Randall 

Tobias, the former pharmaceutical 

manager of Eli Lilly. The 

whole thing was a deceptive 

show and hypocrisy of the first 

order. 

Rath International: What is 

your government’s view of the 

arguments put forward in Dr. 

Matthias Rath’s ’open letter’?

I couldn’t have put it better myself! 

Dr. Rees: Our government has 

already made its position clear 

years ago, with its complaints 

against the pharmaceutical industry’s 

excessive prices for AIDS 

medicines. The full support of 

our government for the International 

Court in The Hague in relation 

to the threat of US military 

sanctions also speaks an unequivocally 

clear language and 

shows where we stand. I am very 

proud at the clear stand taken by 

my government. It is now our 

task as citizens to support our 

government in every way we 

can, so that Bush and Blair are 

forced to face charges at the International 

Court. 

Rath International: Dr. Rees, 

your country was also the most 

vociferous critic of a planned 

worldwide ban on vitamins resulting 

from the Codex Alimentarius 

commission meeting last November 

in Berlin. What has happened 

since then? 

Dr. Rees: Our position has not 

changed. Quite the contrary: I am 

now collaborating on a project 

involving South African countries 

(SADC), which is researching into 

the positive effects of vitamin 

therapies for AIDS patients. The 

report resulting from this will 

serve as a model for all health 

ministers of the 14 member states 

of Africa’s SADC region. This will 

also, of course, have consequences 

for the position of these 

countries at the next Codex meeting 

in Bonn in November of this 

year. It is clear that the wind has 

changed and the writing is on the 

wall for pharmaceutical multinationals. 

I am now a member of 

my country’s official delegation 

to the next Codex Alimentarius 

conference in Bonn. I think that 

speaks for itself.

Rath International: One last 

question Dr. Rees: Why did President 

Bush not meet Nelson 

Mandela, Africa’s leading figure, 

on his trip? 

Dr. Rees: A provocative question. 

It is no secret that Nelson 

Mandela has publicly attacked 

President Bush on several occasions 

for his war policy in Iraq. 

In a talk he gave recently, Mandela 

said: “What I condemn is a 

power whose president cannot 

think properly…and wishes to 

drive the world into holocaust”. 

There was no doubt great unwillingness 

on both sides to 

meet publicly. No doubt a sudden 

’foreign trip’ by Mandela at 

the time of Bush’s visit to South 

Africa was the most diplomatic 

way of avoiding a direct encounter. 

Rath International: Many

The protection of our health is one of the most important human rights. Every year millions 

of people die in Europe alone from endemic public health problems like heart attack, stroke 

and cancer. However, scientific findings have shown that many of these diseases can be prevented 

by side-effect free natural remedies. To date over 10,000 studies have been published 

in the scientific press and on the Internet on the vital importance of vitamins alone. 

Under pressure from the pharmaceutical industry, laws are currently being drawn up at national 

and European levels which would outlaw the spreading of vital health information and 

free access to vitamin therapies and other non-patentable natural remedies. 

Nobody should have the power to endanger our right to good health and life. The profitmotivated 

interests of big business must not be placed ahead of the health interests of millions 

of people. We, the people of Europe, must ensure that we attain direct influence on the 

legislative process, above all where our rights to health and life are concerned. 

That is what we are fighting for. 

We appeal to the responsible politicians in the European Union to carry out a referendum 

to guarantee every citizen in Europe the right to free and unrestricted access to vitamin therapies 

and other natural remedies. This referendum should be carried out in parallel with the 

2004 European Parliament elections. 

We call on the governments of Europe to enshrine the right to referendums in their national 

constitutions and in the future European constitution.
