PRAYER FOR THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF
SAINT MARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL
Good and gracious God, we your children give you praise
and thanks for the Gift of our One Faith which allows us to be
members of your One Family as we live in the One Spirit.
Pour your blessing upon us as we celebrate the
55th Anniversary of Saint Mary Catholic School.
May this school remind us that Jesus your Son is the Teacher
in every classroom and the Role Model of daily living. May all of us heed
the mandate to “Teach all Nations” by bringing the Good News
of the Gospel to all we meet. May our patroness,
Mary, the Mother of our Savior continue to lead us into a deeper relationship
with Jesus her Son, and our Lord now and forever. Amen
WELCOME
Celebrating Fifty Five Years
of Academic Excellence
Saint Mary Catholic School
Looking around the Parish, it is hard to imagine that we had
our beginnings in the home of a local farmer.
Around 1886, Max Von Lang of Perkiomenville opened his
home to other Catholics of the area for Sunday Mass.
Reverend William Wachter, rector of St. Aloysius Church in
Pottstown, and family friend, celebrated Mass on a makeshift
altar covered with the family's best linens. At the time, six
Catholics lived in Schwenksville, most of Irish descent.
By 1905, the congregation grew too large for the Von Lang
home and moved to a room over a delivery stable in Green
Lane. As the numbers grew, the congregation moved from
place to place until, in 1917, a chapel in Green Lane was
purchased.
Sometime around 1922, 25 families raised money to
purchase a building on Spring Mount Road from a New York
clothing merchant named Lersch. The 80 year old building,
previously a milk shipping station, a brick manufacturing plant,
and a clothing firm, was converted to a Church and in 1926,
Saint Mary's Delphi was established.
Reverend William Buesser, the pastor of St. Eleanor's Church in
Collegeville, was reassigned as the first pastor and moved into
the adjoining 100 year old farmhouse that served as
the rectory. Father Buesser received permission to lay the
cornerstone for the new Church. Father along with the
families, converted the purchased Creamery into the new
Church. Under the orders of Pope Pius XI, Saint Mary was
certified as a Catholic Church. Saint Mary officially opened on
September 15, 1926.
With the area, Delphi, having the same name as a city in
ancient Greece, it was only natural that when Father Buesser
heard of a colonial mansion being razed on the Main Line,
he purchased the four Doric columns and had them added
to the front portico of the Church. The Venetian windows,
stained glass window in the sanctuary and four large oil
paintings were added by Father McCall.
ii

In 1961, a school and convent (presently the parish office
center were built. Prior to this, 70 children traveled to the
Sacred Heart School in Royersford in a school bus
purchased by Father McCall in 1954. The new Saint Mary
School had an enrollment of 162 students and the school
was staffed by the Sisters of Saint Francis.
In 1971, the parish hall was built for the 375 family parish.
A fire destroyed this impressive church in 1972, and the
families found themselves moving across the street to the
gym, built the same year, for Sunday Mass. It wasn't until
September 30, 1984 that our present Church was
dedicated.
In 1989, the Sisters of Saint Francis ended their staffing of
Saint Mary School and 267 students were enrolled at the
time. The former convent became the parish offices and
residence for the parish priests.
In 2006, we opened our new school, Saint Mary Catholic
School which houses our current students.
“Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
Dear Alumni,
Welcome back to Saint Mary Catholic School! We are delighted you can spend an
evening celebrating our past history and learning about our future.
Saint Mary is a very special place made up of special people that have created a
community based on the strong foundation of a Catholic Education. Today, this
community carries on this foundation by learning the same core values that have
helped to shape and define our alumni over our 55 year history.
Although the school may look different, the classrooms more modern, the blackboard
replaced by “smart” boards and the notebooks replaced by iPads, the core values
taught in 1961 remain unchanged today. We truly are blessed to have a special
culture and community that few schools have and others can only dare to dream.
This culture is driven by the faculty, administration and parents that all help to play a
role in making our collective dreams a reality.
All great learning institutions have an even greater alumnus. These alumni can help
guide an institution’s future by drawing on its past. Today’s 55 and Alive celebration
is the first step in reconnecting with our alumni. As we welcome you back home, we
ask you to keep in touch with our school. Learn about our initiatives, our academic
programs, the accomplishments of our students, or come out and cheer the Spartans
during one of our famous “Friday Night Lights” CYO basketball games. You are
always welcome home to Saint Mary to celebrate our past with today’s students
and school families.
On behalf of the Saint Mary Catholic School Advisory Board, and the entire community
of parents and students, congratulations on your 55 years of accomplishments.
We are forever grateful for providing today’s school families the opportunity to
continue on your legacy.
“First impressions are everlasting because
"Delphi", and the many people who lined the driveway, bearing gifts of beautiful flowers,
fruits and vegetables from their gardens and farms, waiting to welcome us when we
arrived at Saint Mary's more than fifty years ago. Sr. Catherine St. Anne, Sr. Evelyn Francis,
Sr. Lambertus and Sr. Agnes St. Joseph were truly amazed and overwhelmed to meet all
the happy people of God waiting for us. Oh what a beautiful and warm welcome!
I hold this amazing picture in my heart and in my memory. It will always remind me of
the faith-filled people to whom Jesus entrusted to our care. Today all of you are a gift
“Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
Dear Saint Mary School Alumni, Friends, and Family,
Welcome to the 55th Anniversary Celebration of Saint Mary School! Our school has
been a place where students excel and have wonderful experiences. It is a place of
faith and knowledge. I have had a wonderful experience here at Saint Mary School
from day one. Something I will always remember is how I was welcomed into the Saint
Mary School Community.
The Saint Mary School community is so welcoming to not only me, but my fellow
classmates, friends, and family. We are truly One Faith, One Family, and One Spirit.
All of our teachers and staff are so friendly and supportive. The true heart of our
school is Mr. Conwell and Miss Beth. Their dedication and love for Saint Mary School is
evident. Saint Mary School would not be the same without them being here to direct
and guide us.
Saint Mary School is a family of Christ’s disciples. We are here to deepen our faith
with Him as a community. I would like to thank all the alumni who went to Saint Mary
School before us and paved the way for students like me. You helped to make the
school what it is today. Thank you for the work you have done for future generations
of students at Saint Mary School.
LORENZO AND SONS PIZZA IS ONE OF THE TOP 101 PIZZAS IN THE
ENTIRE COUNTRY!!!
Posted:
Oct 23, 2013 8:42 AM EST by FOX 29, PHILADELPHIA:
The
Daily Meal has put out a list of the 101 best pizzas in America.
Of course, a few Philadelphia restaurants made the cut!
At number 91, Lorenzo and Sons, located on South Street. They are famous for their cheese pies.
They
have no frills, but a lot of flavor. Customers seem to agree.
On Google Reviews and Yelp, many compliment the low price and the slice size.
