UPDATE ON VISUAL MANAGEMENT ROLL-OUT
In this newsletter, we include an update on the
progress of the Visual Management roll-out in the
Operations department. Teams were trained on
Visual Management during May, June, and July, and
the roll-out commenced at the end of July 2016.
Initial progress has been slow with some pockets of excellence in
between. A standard operating procedure has been developed to assist
with the roll-out and significant progress has been made in the past
month of its implementation.
We have conducted two rounds of progress assessments - with the
purpose of assisting and guiding teams on development areas in their
application of Visual Management (including conducting their morning
meetings).
CONGRATULATIONS to the top performing teams! Leading
by example, good example!
VISUAL MANAGEMENT is about making performance
visible.
“We can only manage what we can see” has been proven in all
world class organizations. Visual Management is used to inform
daily decisions to achieve our targets because it is much easier
managing small deviations than waiting until they become big
problems. In principle we want to visually track the information
which enables us to manage the inputs to our processes to ensure
quality, on-time outputs.
HOW PASSIONATE ARE YOU?
“Be Passionate” is one of our values and is a key characteristic that distinguishes
a “World Class” or “Delivery Excellence Organisation” from an average
organisation.
While we all intuitively know what “passion” looks like, it is worth clarifying how we will recognise
whether a person is passionate (or not). This intent would be for us to nurture our passion, develop
it if we don’t have it and encourage others to develop passion to contribute to the World Class
Organisation we want to create.
We have clarified being passionate to mean:
• Taking pride in our work and our organisation
• Showing personal dedication and going the extra mile
• Personally contributing to customer service delivery excellence
• Continuously developing our skills and learning more about our product, organisation and
industry
• Delivering results of high quality
If the above describes your everyday behavior at work then you are well on your way to being
a passionate DTCB employee and your focus can be on spreading (or multiplying) these positive
behaviours by encouraging others to also find their passion.
If however you recognise some of the behaviours below in your own behavior, it will require a bit
of introspection before you can become a multiplier.
• Display a “don’t care attitude” towards your work
• Experience consistent low levels of energy
• Executing your work just because you have to and need the pay check at the end of the month
• Not managing or tracking your own performance or the performance of your team against
agreed goals
• Not interested in developing your skills and improving your work performance
Passion makes the difference between people who look forward to their work day versus those
that have to drag themselves out of bed to start the work day.
Below are some tips to finding your passion!
• Do a self-introspection and identify the top one or two issues affecting your motivation.
• Identify possible solutions or seek assistance from your coach, line manager or Culture and
Change Manager.
Remember that the organisation and other people can create a work environment that is conducive
for your motivation and passion, but only you can motivate yourself and be passionate……
