Learning Business Lessons on the
Golf Course
Green grass, fresh flowers and warm air can only mean one
thing – Spring has arrived! Spring is a time for growth both personally
and professionally. Over the years, I have learned many
lessons on the golf course that transfer beautifully to business
life. Let these lessons help you grow, both as a
golfer and as a business owner.
1. Have a clear, calm mind. De-clutter! Spring is a
time for cleansing. Get out your golf bag, and make
sure that you have only what you need for the
upcoming season. Clean your clubs, organize. At
work, sure that stack of papers on your desk gets
cleared now. Address things that you have been
avoiding in order to create peace in your life.
2. Intention: Know what you want to achieve and remain positive
and focused on that goal. Before each round of golf, set
goals that are measureable and attainable (e.g. breaking 90, no
3-putts). Be sure to review these goals and understand why you
met or failed to meet them. In business, we need
to set targets & goals as well. More important
is reviewing these goals on weekly and monthly
basis to make our growth measurable and predictable.
Set goals that are attainable, but aim high.
You can achieve only what you set your mind to.
3. Utilize the tools you have. In golf, we have 14
clubs, each with different specialized features and
roles. Relate this to your business. Delegate to
people in your community. Develop new business
relationships while freeing up time to do what you do best.
