City of Kitchener Inclusion services<br />
City of Kitchener Inclusion Services can offer a variety of<br />
services, they are:<br />
• Assistive devices<br />
• Specialized <strong>program</strong>s<br />
• In<strong>for</strong>mation and referrals<br />
• Programs grants<br />
• Alternative <strong>for</strong>mats and other communication support<br />
• The PAL card<br />
• Leisure support through a volunteer of staff person<br />
• Fee assistance <strong>for</strong> low income families<br />
Every Kid Counts<br />
Every Kid Counts is a <strong>program</strong> that provides children and<br />
youth with a disability access to additional support to<br />
attend City of Kitchener or City of Waterloo municipal<br />
summer camps. This <strong>program</strong> would not be possible<br />
without donations from the community.<br />

Leisure Support Volunteer<br />
Leisure Support volunteers provide one-to-one support<br />
to a person with a disability who would like assistance<br />
participating in a <strong>recreational</strong> activity.<br />

PAL<br />
The PAL card allows individuals with a disability to<br />
be accompanied by a personal attendant so that they<br />
may have the help they need to participate in leisure<br />
<strong>program</strong>s and services offered by the municipality and<br />
PAL card partners. The personal attendant is not charged<br />
the <strong>program</strong> fee and is present <strong>for</strong> the sole purpose of<br />
assisting the person with the disability.<br />

up at any City of Kitchener facility.<br />
Leisure Access Fee Assistance<br />
Low income families who apply <strong>for</strong> Leisure Access can<br />
receive fee assistance <strong>for</strong> City of Kitchener municipal<br />
<strong>program</strong>s, swim/skate tickets and memberships.<br />
Applications can be picked up at any City of Kitchener<br />
community centre or swimming pool.<br />

Jumpstart<br />
Canadian Tire Jumpstart offers financial assistance<br />
to families living with low income who have children<br />
between the ages of 4-18 years and wish to participate in<br />

Specialized Programs <strong>for</strong> People<br />
with Disabilities<br />
In all of our <strong>program</strong>s friends, family and support workers<br />
are always welcome!<br />
InMotion<br />
Children between the ages of 7-13 will have an opportunity<br />
to play a variety of sports and games, such as soccer,<br />
basketball, hockey, boccia ball, etc.<br />

Music to my Ears<br />
Music can be used to promote, maintain and restore<br />
mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Through<br />
the use of a variety of instruments participants will<br />
learn about different musical sounds, promote selfexpression,<br />
self-awareness, communication and personal<br />
development.<br />

Yoga<br />
Yoga benefits the mind, body and soul <strong>for</strong> people of all<br />
abilities. This gentle <strong>program</strong> which includes stretching,<br />
strengthening, breathing and relaxation will build muscle<br />
strength, posture and flexibility.<br />

Adapted Aquatics<br />
Adapted Aquatics is a learn to swim <strong>program</strong> <strong>for</strong> children,<br />
youth and adults with special learning needs (physical,<br />
developmental, behavioural).<br />

Inclusion Grant<br />
The Inclusion Grant is an opportunity to provide financial<br />
and physical resources to Kitchener and Waterloo<br />
organizations that provide recreation and leisurebased<br />
<strong>program</strong>s and services to residents with special<br />
needs. Grants are only provided to organizations whose<br />
<strong>program</strong>s/services are considered not to be a duplicate of<br />
existing municipal services. Grant requests are processed<br />
annually with an application deadline in late April.<br />
