Message from the Mayor of Kitchener<br />
Welcome to the spring edition of Active<br />
Kitchener, <strong>for</strong>merly Leisure Magazine! Now that<br />
the holidays are behind us, it’s a great time to<br />
start thinking about how you want to celebrate<br />
Canada during its 150th birthday. Whether in<br />
our community or across the country, there will<br />
be lots to see and do. It’s also time to make the<br />
most of the remaining weeks of winter, while<br />
looking <strong>for</strong>ward to spring when we can get<br />
outdoors and reconnect with others in our community.<br />
Speaking of community, I am a strong believer that we have some<br />
very special individuals in our community who play a vital role<br />
in ensuring Kitchener is a healthy, vibrant and exciting place to<br />
live, work and play <strong>today</strong>, and in the future. This was part of my<br />
thinking when I introduced the Mayor’s City Builder Awards. We<br />
are <strong>for</strong>tunate to have so many outstanding citizens to choose<br />
from right here in Kitchener, including our 2017 recipients: Don<br />
Bourgeois, Nadia Muhammad, Dr. Michael Stephenson, Brooke<br />
Robinson, Warren Stauch, and Reception House. Congratulations<br />
to all our winners!<br />
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of the volunteers,<br />
instructors, staff, event planners, board members, and everyone<br />
who participates in the planning and running of <strong>program</strong>s in<br />
Kitchener. Your dedication and passion has not gone unnoticed,<br />
by the citizens of Kitchener or myself. On behalf of my council<br />
colleagues, thank you <strong>for</strong> your investment in our community!<br />
