Papua New Guinea has been named<br />
as one of this year’s 21 ‘must-see’<br />
destinations by National Geographic<br />
Traveller magazine.<br />
The annual ‘Best of the World’ list, chosen<br />
by the magazine’s editors, is all about<br />
“exploration and discovery”, according to<br />
editor-in-chief George Stone. “We think this<br />
year’s list represents a carefully curated<br />
selection of forward-leaning places that<br />
reveal the bright future of travel.”<br />
The magazine writes: “Time forgot much<br />
of PNG, an isolated and incredibly rugged<br />
Garden of Eden. For indigenous cultures in<br />
secluded villages, life pretty much goes on as<br />
it has for centuries.<br />
“Recent homegrown tourism initiatives,<br />
such as the villagehuts.com lodging and<br />
travel website, are making it a bit easier for<br />
adventurers to visit PNG’s untamed rainforests,<br />
volcanic fjords and vibrant coral reefs.” n<br />
