Page 29 Science is not completely compatible with religion. I am of the opinion that science is a culture of doubt whereas religion is itself a culture. They are intrinsically opposite; science concerns our universe & shows the evidence of the design in which physical laws precisely match what is required for life. Religion is a belief and worship of a superhuman controlling power. Religions have sacred histories and stories which were preserved and often considered by their followers. Religious practices may include rituals, sacrifices, festivals, feasts, etc. About 85% of the world's population are associated with one of the five largest religions, namely Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism or forms of folk religion. Religious followers are fastidious about their practices. Any changes in practices are bound to have ramifications, according to them. Speaking of science, it is knowledge or a system of knowledge covering — Science vs. Religion — Science? Religion? AISHWARYA C general truths or the operation of general laws. In the 19 th century, science was considered as philosophy, but in the western world, science comprised of studies such as astronomy, physics and medicine. It has managed to exist in the modern era as well as historical civilisations. During the early middle ages, the Aristotelian approach to natural phenomena was used. In the later medieval period, as demand for translations grew, Western Europeans began collecting texts written not only in Latin, but also Latin translations of Greek, Arabic, and Hebrew. Many scientists do corroborate that there are conflicts, misconceptions and

A recent study shows that of about 30% who do see a conflict, the most common source of disagreement involves beliefs about evolution and the creation of the universe. Also, twothirds of Americans (65%) believe that humans simply appeared as they are over time! A tremendous range of scientific literature is published. Scientific journals communicate and document the results of research carried out in universities and various other research institutions, serving as an archival record of science. The first scientific journals, Journal des Sçavans followed by The Philosophical Transactions, began publication in 1665. Since that time, the total number of active periodicals has enormously increased. Science has become so ubiquitous in modern societies. Science books engage the interest of many more people. Predominantly, the science fiction genre being fantastic in nature, engages public imagination and transmits the ideas of science. Recent efforts to increase or develop links between science and nonscientific disciplines include the Creative Writing Science resource developed through the Royal Literary Fund. There are indeed directional trends in evolution, including the increasing complexity of creatures across the history of life. Also, the functional capacities that it enables are the ability to sense the environment, to control internal conditions, to provide parental care, to bond with individuals in social groups, to represent the world in a holistic manner and to solve problems with flexible behaviours. The potentials of life itself increase progressively over the course of evolution. Facts are true whether science itself believes them or not! “Facts are true whether science itself believes them or not” There are still individuals convinced that they see no compelling evidence about the existence of Gods. People who live in a world dominated by science and technology started losing belief in religions. Science wiped out traditions and fundamentalism. Generally, conflicts have always been aroused from incomplete knowledge. Both of these are on a different equation with clear boundaries laid by the scientists and other individuals. So, the contradiction is inexplicable. I would like to conclude that religion without science is superstition and science without religion is materialism.
