Shot at the Beardsley Zoo in 2003, the
obsessive behavior of Joaquin the black bear
reminded me of a film that I had seen in 1975.
It was a student film, and the first structuralist
film that I remember being exposed to. The
movie was a locked-down shot of a polar bear
who struck his head against the cement wall of
his cage every time he cycled by it. This is an
homage to them.
