To prepare the calotte section samples, a grinding ball generates a calotte-shaped hollow in<br />

the coating of the sample. This results in circular (planar surface) or elliptical indentations<br />

(curved surface).<br />

The calotte grinding measurement application module (see below) allows you to determine<br />

the thickness of calotte section coatings in accordance with the DIN V ENV 1071 standard.<br />

The diameters of the circular or elliptical indentations are determined by drawing in<br />

measurement circles. The coating thickness is calculated automatically.<br />

At the end of the four steps module all the data is stored in an extern file which can be<br />

imported in the <strong>PQCS</strong> (see page 9).<br />

A diamond cone is indented in the sample. The remaining circular indentation is evaluated<br />

under the microscope in reference to the picture below.<br />

The acceptable adhesion depends on costumer application:<br />

Normal HSS tools: HF1-HF4 acceptable<br />

Normal HM tools: HF1-HF3 acceptable<br />

High performance tools: HF1-HF2 acceptable<br />
