A DAY IN THE
FAIRE WORKSHOP
A group of skilled artisans expertly create each piece of jewelry
with an amazing attention to detail. The workshop is full of
laughter and friendly chatter as the women share recipes, tips
for childrearing, and many inside jokes. The workshop a place
of community, born from a shared bond built on hope for the
future. In Ecuador, 61% of the population is informally
employed, exposing them to labor abuse, lack of health care,
and exploitive working conditions. In sharp contrast to the
majority of artisan production which only offers informal
employment paid by piece rate, Faire Collection artisans are
formally employed with a guaranteed base salary, paid
vacation, paid maternity leave, full health insurance and
retirement benefits. Additionally, as 100% of our employees
are women, we know the careful balance facing working
mothers, so we allow our artisans to set their own working
hours.
