Water Thrills Abound for Guests of all Ages Throughout
the Resort Destination
Atlantis, Paradise Island is home to an unprecedented 140-acre waterscape,
AQUAVENTURE. This non-stop water experience, containing 7 million gallons of water,
consists of thrilling water slides, a mile-long river ride with high intensity rapids and wave
surges, 13 pools, a life-size replica of a Mayan Temple, a 7-acre snorkeling lagoon, a
lazy river and never-before-seen special effects that add an extreme level of
excitement to the overall experience.
Every aspect of Atlantis involves a sense of discovery and has been designed to ignite
one’s imagination. AQUAVENTURE, too, takes known water-based attractions such as
water slides, river rapids, waterfalls and water holes, and adds first-of-its-kind special
effects and technology, bringing them all together in a lush environment that is both
immersive and interconnected.

The Power Tower is the grand icon of Aquaventure. At 120 feet tall, the tower offers
guests the choice of four adrenaline-inducing water slides including: The Abyss – an
exhilarating body slide that starts at the top of the Power Tower and drops a staggering
near-vertical 50 feet into total darkness, through a tumbling waterfall and finishing in a
deep cenote filled with menacing Alligator Gars. The Drop, The Falls and The Surge are
three inner tube slides using “master-blaster” technology, which effectively creates
roller coasters from jets of water that propel riders up and downhill at a fast pace. The
Drop - spirals through the Power Tower’s dark center while The Falls - drops riders down
58 feet before propelling them up again through twisting turns. Both of these slides are
accessible from the river, where guests can exit the river loop to a dry conveyor,
allowing them to ride on their tube to the 58-foot-high level of the tower and then slide
down through snake-like cylinders. The Surge - starts at the very top of the Power Tower
(accessible by stairs), drops into a cavern and ends in a flash flood.
Surrounding the Power Tower is a complex river ride system with waves pushing inner
tube riders through lush landscape. The river loop, called The Current is approximately 1
mile long, contains nearly 3 million gallons of water, and harbors 7 foot high elevations
and drops, as well as an area called The Rapids, featuring white-water rapids. A wave
generator simulates a wave surge, propelling riders in their inner tubes along the course
of the river on the wave crests.
The river loop consists of a complex transport system that allows guests to float along or
return to the waterslides without ever having to get off their tubes, thus creating one
continuous never-ending ride. A conveyor takes riders up to the highest point of the
river, where one either continues the loop around the Power Tower through rapids, or
enters the slide complex to travel via a conveyor to the top of the tower to ride the
slides. The tower slides, as well as the rapids loop, all flow into zero-entry pools, where
guests can exit or continue on through the 80 foot underground tunnel and caves to
ride the waves, slides or rapids once again.

Both the Power Tower and The Current incorporate special effects in the darkness of the
tunnels and caves to add another level of excitement to the water thrills in which guests
are immersed. A water curtain video technology gives guests a one-of-a-kind
experience using fire, water, mechanical systems, smoke/fog and video technologies.
For the first time ever, this technology is incorporated into a tube in darkness, offering
riders an unprecedented thrill that changes every time they take the ride. As riders slide
down the enclosed tube in complete darkness, they encounter illusions that stimulate
every one of the senses, adding to the overall journey.
One of the iconic images of Atlantis is the life-size replica of a Mayan Temple, featuring
a series of thrilling water rides, including The Leap of Faith, a 60-foot near perpendicular
plunge ending in a clear acrylic tunnel submerged in a shark-filled lagoon. The Serpent
slide, 48 feet up the Temple, spins its riders into the blackness of the Temple’s mysterious
core before they emerge through the shark-filled lagoon at a leisurely “shark-viewing”
pace. The Challengers, two high-speed dueling slides and the Jungle Slide, which
meanders through exotic jungles and caves, provide more thrills and excitement.
To ensure the safety of all guests, there is a 48” minimum height requirement for these
water slides and rides at Atlantis.
Splashers, a children’s water play area and pool, provides a world of thrills for children
less than 54 inches tall and their parents. The elaborate Mayan-themed water play
structure features two enclosed spiral body slides, one open spiral body slide, and a
child-friendly version of the famous side-by-side Mayan Temple Challenger slides.
Splashers also features cargo nets and rope bridges for climbing, and water cannons,
fountains and water wheels for endless soaking. Overhead, a 320 gallon bucket
regularly showers water-lovers below with 8,000 gallons of water per hour. Other
swimming areas for younger guests include the nearby Ripples Pool, with miniature
slides, and Poseidon’s Kid’s Pool, with fountains and in-water play structures.

Throughout Atlantis there are 13 freshwater pools, including The Baths, a 750,000 gallon
pool which includes rockwork structures, waterfalls and hieroglyphic columns.
The resort encourages guests to fully experience the world’s largest open-air marine
habitat in Paradise Lagoon, located between the Coral and Royal Towers. Paradise
Lagoon is part of the marine habitat’s open-filtration system, which filters 41 million
gallons of fresh ocean-water each day. Guests are encouraged to don their snorkel
gear, or visit Neptune’s Water Toys, where sea kayaks, pedal boats and water bicycles
are available daily for rentals.
