Notes from the Pastor . . .
Dear Parish Family,
Christ is Risen, Alleluia!
He is Truly Risen, Alleluia!
A woman named Carolyn had
lunch with an old friend she
hadn’t seen in years. Maggie told
of her mother’s death and said,
“Several psychics said my mother
is at peace—but she’ll have to come back a few more
times to get it right!” Carolyn asked, “You’re a
practicing Catholic, but you believe in reincarnation?”
Maggie smiled, “Oh, yes; it’s the only way you can
correct all your mistakes and be ready to ascend.”
Carolyn said, “It seems to me, we already have that.
Purgatory is our way of being purified and transformed
after we die. And we’re a unity with our bodies—how
could my spirit live in dozens of other bodies over
centuries?”
Maggie laughed. “Oh, the body—The body’s just trash.”
It was a common heresy of Jesus’ time, to think that the
body was evil and degraded. Some showed contempt
for the body by drunkenness and gluttony, others by
extreme ascetic disciplines and cruel self-punishments.
Both were wrong. Maggie picks and chooses her
beliefs, so she has no good theology of the body. When
Jesus appears and the apostles think he is a ghost, he
makes it clear that he rose from the dead with the same
identity he had in life. “Just look at me, touch me—A
ghost does not have flesh and bones as I have.”
That is why Jesus asks us to take his becoming human
very seriously; because it is real! Our faith is founded
upon those who witnessed the real life and the actual
death and rising of our Lord Jesus Christ. God raised
Jesus in the integrity of his whole self. When Jesus
ascended to God, he went as himself: mind, spirit, AND
body. Far from trash—this is a great future!

A special time for prayer in our parish time of
transition. Tomorrow, April 23 rd , we ask you to join our
parish family for a day of Adoration for our parish
priests in this time of transition and for all those men
considering the call to priesthood. Exposition of the
Most Blessed Sacrament will follow the 9:00 a.m. Mass
on April 23 rd and will continue until morning Mass the
next day. Please sign up if you wish to volunteer to
spend some time with the Lord in prayer and in praying
for Father Joel Wilson who will be leaving us May 6 th
and Rev. Mr. Neiser Cardenas, who will be ordained a
priest on June 9 th and will begin his first priestly
assignment in our parish on July 1. Blue sign-up sheets
are at the doors of the church.
Farewell and God’s blessings to Father Wilson. On
Sunday, May 6 th , Father Wilson will celebrate his last
Mass here at St. Rose Parish and will leave that week to
begin studies at Catholic University in Washington DC.
We invite everyone to join us for the 11:30 a.m. Mass
followed by a luncheon reception afterwards in the High
School Cafeteria. Opposite you will find a response
form to fill out and indicate how many adults and
children will be attending. Please fill out the form and
return in the collection basket or drop it off at the
parish center before May 2 nd . We are most grateful for
the three years Father Wilson has shared his priestly
ministry with us in our parish and as chaplain at St. Rose
High School. Your presence at the Mass and reception
on May 6 th is a wonderful way to say “Thank You and
God Bless You” to Father Wilson!
First Holy Communion. This Saturday, April 28 we
celebrate the first of three First Holy Communions at St.
Rose. Our second graders of St. Rose Grammar School
will receive their First Holy Communion at a 9:30 am.
Mass and then the following Saturday, May 5 th , children
in our Religious Education program will celebrate their
First Eucharist at two Masses—9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
Prayerful best wishes to our children, their parents,
godparents, and family. Thank you to their teachers
and catechists and all who assisted in their preparation
and formation!
2012 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Update: As of April 2 nd ,
$83,894.10 has been pledged to the Bishop’s Annual
Appeal from our parish and $59,814.10 has been paid in
pledges. Our parish assigned goal is $56,735. This
represents 287donors. THANK YOU to everyone who
pledged to the Appeal. It is never too late to make a
pledge in any amount—so if you have not done so yet,
please consider making a pledge (and paying it off).
Not only does your pledge assist the Diocese of Trenton
in its many ministries and programs, but our parish
benefits too. This year $1 million of the Appeal has
been earmarked for parish outreach programs like the
St. Vincent de Paul Society. Our own St. Vincent de Paul
Society has applied for a grant to assist us in our
ministry, so hopefully we will hear soon if we will be
awarded a grant from the Appeal. May God bless your
generosity and stewardship.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights of Columbus Msgr. Thomas U. Reilly Council 5611

In March, 2012 Covenant House NJ began offering Ourtreach
Services to homeless and at-risk youth in Asbury Park and
surrounding areas. Our HS youth group strives to answer
God’s call to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty and
shelter the homeless by supporting the outreach services of
Covenant House. Beginning next weekend there will be
themed collection of needed supplies the last weekend of
each month. Toiletries, snacks, socks, underwear and small
denomination food gift cards are much needed and gratefully
appreciated. On April 28/29 ST. Rose Youth Group members
will be collecting gift cards. $5 to Dunkin Donuts, Burger
King, etc. will allow the les fortunate to have a hot meal.
Cards to Rite-Aid allow them to obtain personal care
necessities. Thank you for your anticipated generosity! The
youth are our future, they need our support.
CHALLENGE GIRLS’ CLUB

May 12: once again our SRGS baseball team will play a
benefit game at the Lakewood BlueClaws stadium in 2012.
This year the game will be on Saturday, May 12th. The
BlueClaws will play at 4 pm and we will play our game VS St.
Joseph's of Toms River at approx. 7 pm. Hoping to make this
a nice St. Rose community day as we will have 250 tickets to
sell - it's a full afternoon of baseball for the price of one ticket
and we also honor the late Joe Finn with a Memorial MVP
Award that day.

The Living in Love marriage retreat, supported by the
Diocese of Trenton, will be held at St Rose High School
Sat and Sun, June 30 and July 1, 2012. Join us for this
parish retreat and invite more joy into your marriage.
Husbands tell us that the atmosphere is uniquely “male
friendly” with a balanced approach to male and female
values in marriage. The retreat runs all day Saturday
from 8:00AM to 9:00PM, including a romantic dinner.
Sunday’s schedule runs from 8:00AM to 4:00 PM
(including Mass). Couples bring their lunches and a
snack to share. Coffee and beverages are provided. The
retreat consists of nine presentations. Couples are
invited to reflect in writing at the end of the
presentation and share their answers with their spouse

our culture and how they in fact limit our ability to

The Borough of Belmar and The Monmouth County Health
Dept. are sponsoring a free eye clinic on Thursday, May 3 rd
from 3-6pm at The Belmar First Aid building, located at 9 th
and D St. An ophthalmologist affiliated with the health
department will be doing the exams. Belmar residents of all
ages, from 3years on up through Belmar’s senior population,
