The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and
Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond, Va., informs public policy through scholarship
and community engagement and prepares students to
be tomorrow’s leaders. The Wilder School embodies
the values of independent thought and public service
championed by L. Douglas Wilder, the nation’s first
elected African American governor.
We offer undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees
in criminal justice, homeland security and emergency
preparedness, public administration, public policy and
administration, and urban and regional studies and
planning, plus graduate certificates in several related
fields. The Wilder School’s centers provide expertise
