One can still hear the noise <strong>of</strong> the oars <strong>of</strong> the Jesuit missionaries; the ambitious chugging <strong>of</strong> the<br />

rubber barons’ steambo<strong>at</strong>s; the agonizing pain <strong>of</strong> entire families <strong>of</strong> n<strong>at</strong>ives th<strong>at</strong> were killed.<br />
