searching possibilities, I finally ended up with<br />

the pacifier. After careful analysis I concluded:<br />

“There is no modern product on the pacifier<br />

market!” That is exactly where I saw my chan-<br />

ce and began my mission to conquer the world<br />

with innovative baby products. I searched<br />

for suitable partners and soon found them. So,<br />

one of the major players in the baby product<br />

industry grew from a vision that was initially<br />

ridiculed by some. In 1976, the first <strong>MAM</strong> pacifier<br />

was sold in Austria. In 1989, the first <strong>MAM</strong><br />

subsidiary, <strong>MAM</strong> UK, opened in Great Britain.<br />

In 1990, <strong>MAM</strong> was able to take over the Scandinavian<br />

market with the purchase of the Swedish<br />

brand Bambino. The opening of the <strong>MAM</strong><br />

Hungaria production centre in 1991 was another<br />

important step toward greater flexibility in<br />

manufacturing. Since that first day, <strong>MAM</strong> has<br />

continued to grow and gradually took the lead<br />

in many international markets. In the beginning<br />

it was a pacifier. Today, a market leader<br />

in many areas.<br />

I would like to thank everyone in the <strong>MAM</strong> family<br />

for a successful 40 years of <strong>MAM</strong> history<br />

“Pacifiers?<br />

Everything starts from a scratch ...<br />

Ideas turn into amazing designs<br />

Before developing any product, a few basic<br />

questions arise.<br />

Why, what for, does it have to be this way?<br />

We posed these questions to Peter Röhrig<br />

during a visit when he asked us to design<br />

a pacifier.<br />

After lengthy discussions it became clear<br />

that there are a number of unresolved<br />

questions that needed to be answered.<br />

Especially since a pacifier is one of the first<br />

products of our artificial environment that a<br />

person comes in contact with.<br />

It turned into a research project lasting two<br />

years during which the findings from function,<br />

material, ergonomics, technology and<br />

all of the medical requirements were recorded.<br />

Observation noted the need for a<br />

symmetric teat shape, reduced grip surface<br />

as well as a shield designed to fit the facial<br />

area and of course, the visual appearance<br />

of the product.<br />

After this came an intensive development<br />

phase. A final hospital test confirmed the<br />

new pacifier type which led to series production<br />

and entering the international marketplace.<br />

A brain-storming session in the studio led to<br />

the name <strong>MAM</strong> for the product, which then<br />

became the name of the company.<br />

After 40 years of <strong>MAM</strong> baby product design<br />

our concept continues to be a success as<br />

a visually recognizable <strong>MAM</strong> family even<br />

though at purchase, the user has little to no<br />

influence on this.”<br />

The pacifier story!<br />

At the beginning of <strong>MAM</strong> everything started with a pacifier. A little object made of plastic - made in Austria -<br />

changed the lives of babies in 1976. Starting with basic pacifiers without motifs <strong>MAM</strong> has revolutionized the<br />

baby product market all over the world. Today <strong>MAM</strong> offers a wide range of pacifiers in various trendy colours<br />

and printed with stylish designs.<br />

Since the very beginning it was clear that a perfect concept, a perfect combination of product and packaging,<br />

was necessary to attract attention. A perfect product needs a perfect package! Already, the first <strong>MAM</strong> pacifier<br />

Getting ready for our production!<br />

In 1990, construction began on the company‘s own production centre in Hungary near the Austrian border.<br />

<strong>MAM</strong> celebrates the opening of its first production centre in 1991. From this point on, <strong>MAM</strong> products are assembled,<br />

printed and packaged here and then shipped around the world. The large growth at <strong>MAM</strong> and<br />

increasing interest in our products between 2010 and 2015 has led to a need for the expansion of our production<br />

and warehouse facilities. The current construction phase is planned for completion in 2016.<br />

<strong>MAM</strong> goes to Thailand!<br />

Latex is an important raw material for a wide variety of baby products. That was the original idea behind a<br />

<strong>MAM</strong> production centre in Thailand. Thousands of latex trees grow in the area close to the plant. This means<br />

the raw material can be processed very quickly. A second <strong>MAM</strong> plant is currently being built near Bangkok.<br />

Completion is planned for mid-May, 2016. The primary purpose of the new <strong>MAM</strong> plant will be injection moulding<br />

of plastic parts.<br />
