RESIDENTIAL
Combining Belgium influences and the essence of
quintessenal kiwi lifestyle was one of the most
significant design driver for this bi-cultural home. The
feature brick walls on either side of the atrium is laid in
Flemish bond, the origin of which has its roots in Flanders,
Belgium. Digital design strategies were adopted to design
and schedule the 3D brick artwork. The juxtaposion of
warm and cold materials is also reflected in the interiors.
Site configuraon lead to an axial arrangement and
visual expression of the axis. Various building elements in
different planes are aligned to create visual imagery of
an axis. Every space, including the art gallery, is carefully
customised to suit the client’s need. The interior &
exterior colour palee was inspired by the client’s art
collecon. The house was designed with sustainable
design principles to achieve higher energy performance.

GOVERNMENT & INSTITUTIONAL
This was the winning entry for an invited design
compleon. The project incorporang sports bar,
mulfuncon room, cafeteria with full commercial
kitchen was designed to accommodate more than 400
patrons. The over-arching design approach was to convey
a sense of community village within a contemporary
envelope that brought together the exisng and new
structures to efficiently maximise the surrounding site,
views and general environment. Digital design strategies
were used to design and document the sculptural mber
screen pre-fabricated out of laminated mber beams.
Sustainable design approach was one of the key
drivers for the project right through all the design and
construcon phases. Energy & ulity consultant,
Enercon were the lead environmentally sustainable design
consultant for the project who also conducted post
occupaon energy audit to measure and
re-confirm the energy performance of the building.

LIFE IS A PLAYGROUND / PALMERSTON NORTH
EDUCATION
This dream project had two hundred primary school
kids as liens and a simple brief - to create a new
playground, a fort and a ship, that challenges users more
than current, off the shelf equipment. In response, it was
designed as two great structures for a grassy knoll.
Both have all manner of bridges, climbing structures
and walkways. The window geometries and colours
employed reinforce the playful purpose, while
exterior boards are skilfully arranged to
allow light and sir into the heart of the structure.

DECONSTRUCTED BOX / MASSEY UNIVERSITY
EDUCATION
This retro fit consisted of new wind lobby and
refurbishment of entry foyer or a mul-storey social
science tower. The design approach was more like a ‘set
design’ for a movie. The design was approached as a
‘befing inseron’ of a regular box into exisng
building. The box is then de-constructed into mulple
segments that breaks the otherwise long and narrow space
into different zones. Use of vinyl graphics, text and art
installaon paly an important role and encourages the
end-user to engage with the architecture of the lobby.

EXPRESSION / PARK ROAD, PALMERSTON NORTH
RESIDENTIAL
The pin oak tree, that is thought to be 70-90 years
old, was one of the driving forces behind the massing
of the building. The amalgamaon of the tradional
forms and natural materials with contemporary design
philosophy is an aempt to recall the history of the
site, while emphasising the transion from past to
present. Natural cedar with tones of green on
various building elements is intended to echo with the
featured pin oak tree. The leaves of pin oak are green, then
red and finally yellow before the fall. To
signify this journey tones of green, red and
yellow ochre are used in controlled fashion
throughout the building.Interior journey make
seamless transion from larger volumes (family spaces)
into the smaller volumes (inmate &
personal spaces). The house is also designed for
the future, it has achieved 5-Star Life Mark rang.

ZAHAHA / JEWELLERY DESIGN
RAPID PROTOTYPING
“Zahaha” Earring and its subsequent generaons were
inspired by the works of late dame Zaha Hadid’s.
The profile curve of Zahaha is an approximaon of
the curve between the head and neck of a female.
These designs were created adopng generave
design methodologies using sowares such as Rhinocerous
4.0, Grasshopper and Genoform. The designs
were then produced using rapid prototyping
technology also known as 3D prinng through Shapeways.

LIFE FULL OF STARS / CHRISTCHURCH QUAKE MEMORIAL
COMPETITION
This was a compleon entry for the Christchurch
Earthquake Memorial that was in the memory of 185
people who lost their lived during the catastrophic
earthquake in Canterbury. A primary grid paern was
crated by plong exact earth co-ordinates of the
major quake and the subsequent aershocks. A
secondary grid paern was created by plong exact earth
co-ordinates of all the locaons of 185 fatalies.
The grids were superimposed over each other to create a
resultant grid paern that was used to form various spaces,
structure and the landscape paern. Algorithmic Design
Strategies were used to design and opmise the soluon.

VULCAN STEEL HEAD OFFICE / PALMERSTON NORTH
EDUCATION
This addion of office building to exisng industrial
building was designed in collaboraon with Silvester-Clark
Consulng Engineers for Vulcan Steel. The conspicuous
form with bold weathered steel cladding is juxtaposed
against exisng plain industrial vocabulary to clearly
characterise corporate and industrial acvies. The
choice of material is the expression of the company’s
core trade. Our scope included design, building consent
documentaon and construcon documentaon.

AIR MOVEMENTS TERMINAL NZDF / OHAKEA
GOVERNMENT & INSTUTUTION
The Air Movements Terminal was the final and
flagship major building constructed under the
Project Takini upgrade of Base Ohakea, catering
for more than 500 users and mulple aircra at one
me, it also serves as the base airside control centre
and incorporates a mul-funcon events area with
commercial kitchen and mulmedia facilies. Being a
mulpurpose facility. This building has more than
eight different operaonal mode. The facility provides
the flexibility to securely accommodate concurrent
internaonal and domesc military flights. The design
includes arrival and departure lounges, passenger
processing area, baggage handling area, internaonal
transfer and customs capability, operaons coordinaon
and training facilies, as well as a dedicated freight handling
facility. This project was delivered in J.V with BECA.

GOLDEN GATE / FEILDING
RETAIL & HOSPITALITY
The proposal includes conversion of exisng
supermarket building and the site into a
community focused retail & hospitality precinct.
The site is located in the town of Feilding, that
currently holds the official tle of ‘NZ’s most
beauful large town’. Feilding is also known
for its rich collecon of heritage and
classical buildings. The proposed master
planning soluon is the resultant of intense
research and design discourse. Golden
Raon & Sacred Geometry has been used as
an over- arching design philosophy that could
integrate both, the grammar of classical architecture
and mathemacal approximaon of beauty.
