A Sticky Situation
One only has to look outside of Olivedale’s
Charming facility to see yet another picturesque
site; Olivedale Park. Olivedale Senior Center sits
on a Lancaster Park location. The entryway into
the building has many areas with plants and
mulch. These areas are not for discarding gum or
cigarette butts. Chewing gum is the second most
common form of litter after cigarette butts.
Neither are biodegradable and can leave lasting
negative affects on the environment. Littered

gum can make it’s way into the food chain. When
ready to discard your gum, consider aiming for a
trash can instead of the flower beds. Olivedale
has a designated smoking area in the center
island that meets the law requirement of being 20’
from any entrance. There is a butt can receptacle
in the island so that we can keep our park clean.
Earth Day is April 22nd, so please remember to
save our planet and keep our Lancaster Parks
clean. Thank you, Park Management.
Coffee Club
Join the conversation covering the
economy, interest rates and various other
investment topics with the monthly financial
discussion group at 9:00a on Friday, April 7.

2nd Tuesday Lunch
The Easter Bunny is hopping his way into
the Olivedale kitchen with a scrumptious
Easter dinner! Join us Tuesday, April 11 for a
helping of ham, scalloped potatoes, California
blend vegetables, roll, and an Easter cupcake.
Serving will be from 11:30a -12:30p and the cost
is only $6. Don’t forget to make your reservation
by Friday, April 7. We’ll expect to see you in
your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it!
Waffle Breakfast
Waffleologist Larry is serving his
delicious waffles every Thursday from
8:00a -10:00a. $3 per person includes a waffle,
3 sausage links, juice, and coffee. Open to the
public and please pay at the office. Please note
there will not be waffles on Thursday, April 20.
Pancake Breakfast & Granny’s Attic
Join us for our Pancake Breakfast on Wednesday,
April 19. Enjoy an abundant breakfast of all you
can eat pancakes along with a helping of bacon,
juice, coffee or tea, served from 7:30a - 10:30a.
Cost is $4.00 per person with extra sides available
for 50¢. Granny’s Attic will be open where you can
bargain shop at yard sale prices.
Fish Fry
Take the bait, save the date! Our next fish fry is
Tuesday, April 25 from 4:30-6:30p. On the menu
are 2 generous servings of fish along with a baked
potato and coleslaw. Take-out is available and
pre-sale tickets are available at the office, adults
$8, children $4. Tickets can also be purchased at
the door, but may be limited. Don’t let this dinner
be the one that got away!

Cornhole
We are looking for players to join our cornhole
group. Cornhole is the fun lawn game where
players take turns throwing bags of corn at a
raised platform with a hole in the far end for
points. We play at Stanberry School on
Mulberry St. on Monday and Friday starting
at 3:00p. Come anytime between 3:00p and
6:00p. If interested contact Roger Smith at

Ballroom Dance ~ Mambo
The Mambo dance originated in Cuba where
there were substantial settlements of Haitians.
It first appeared in the United States in New
York's Park Plaza Ballroom. A modified version
of the Mambo" was presented to the public at
dance studios, resort hotels, and at night-clubs
in New York and Miami. Success was on the
agenda. Mambo happy dancers soon became
known affectionately as "Mambonicks". Can
Mambo recapture the glory of its golden days?
Can the flashy Cuban dance step find a new
following? Yes! Join our teacher Stan on
Fridays at 1:00p, no partner required and only
$5 per lesson, payable at the office before class.
We guarantee you will become a Mambonick!

Crocheting and Knitting Class
Olivedale offers a crocheting and knitting class
on Thursdays at 11:00a. Bring any current
project or if you are a beginner, supplies will be
provided. This class is free. If you have any
questions, call the Olivedale office.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an energizing form of exercise that can
be done either standing or sitting. Beginners
welcome. If you would like to give it a try,
classes are held every Monday with
Intermediate Tai Chi class at 1:00p and
Beginning Tai Chi at 2:00p. The cost is $3.25
at time of class, no pre-registration necessary.
Line Dance
There are classes for dancers of all experience
levels. Classes are during the day and evening.
Check the newsletter calendar for days and
times. Open to all Olivedale members. Class fee
is $3.00 per person or $5.00 per couple.
Basket Class ~ Cat Head Basket
The April project is a cat head basket. This
multi-colored basket measures 7” high and 7”
across with no handle. It would be a great
Easter gift. The class will be held on Monday,
April 10 starting at 9:00a. The cost is $32 and
Art Is 4 Every 1
The Art is 4 Every 1 class meets every Tuesday
at 1:00p. The initial supply kit and class is $33
and follow up classes are only $11. Payment
must be made when first registering for the class
and if paying by check, please make the check
payable to Patti Goltz.

A Fond Farewell
After nearly twenty years,
Fairfield Medical Center and
Lancaster City Parks will be
ending their partnership in
Olivedale’s Wellness Center. It
has been my honor and privilege
to serve the seniors of our
community since 1997. The
vision of then director,
Peg Clifford, with input from
then CEO Creighton Likes,
heralded a unique approach to
wellness in the community. We
have come a long way since that
very first day. I shall miss each
and everyone of you, and those
who passed through these halls
before you. You have enriched
my life immeasurably, and I
thank you with all my heart.

Red Glad Hatters
The Red Glad Hatters will be going to
“The Red Hat Birthday Bash” at Berwick
Manor located at 3250 Refugee Road,
Cols., OH 43232 on Saturday, April 29. We
will meet to carpool at Olivedale at 10:00a. The
doors open at 10:45a if you are driving on your
own. You were advised to have your reservation
to Queen Jeanie by March 17. If you have any
concerns please contact Queen Jeanie Hughes,
740-687-0516. Put on your party clothes as this
will be such a fun event for “Happy Hatting”.
Rambling Designers Garden Club
The Rambling Designers Garden Club will meet
at Olivedale on Tuesday, April 4 at 1:00p for a
flower arranging extravaganza. Each member
will create a flower arrangement to take home.
Flowers and oasis will be provided by the club.
Members should bring their own container and
clippers. This is a members only activity.
Hostesses are Nancy Hinkle and Monica Snyder.
A second club activity is scheduled on April 18.
Members will car pool, gathering in the
Olivedale lower parking lot at 12:30p for our
Spring Fling, a tour of Nightcrawlers Gardens
which grows wholesale herbs for area garden
stores and annuals for retail sales. Following
the tour, members are invited to Ann Huston’s
house to view the spring flowers in her garden
and have refreshments. For further information

The “Bookies”
Our April selection will be “The Color Purple” by
Alice Walker. We will meet in the sunroom of
the Olivedale house on Tuesday, April 18 at
1:00p. Pick up a copy at the Fairfield County

Quilt Charms
We are currently planning our Spring
Retreat. April 9 thru 12 we will travel
to the Amish Country for a few days of s
hopping, quilting, and building rapport with our
fellow members. Everyone is welcome, you do
not have to be a member. Please join us for our
meetings held on Thursday mornings at 9:00a.
Ping Pong
Our Ping Pong Group is looking for players. We
play on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00a.

Walker’s Club
Join us Thursday, April 6, for a hike on the
bike trail by Olivedale. We will meet at
Olivedale at 8:45a for a 9:00a walk (no extra
traveling). On Thursday, April 20, we will
meet at Olivedale at 8:30a for an 8:45a
departure to Alley Park trails. If you have any
questions, call Dixie at 740-818-3493. New
walkers are always welcome, and lunch is
optional.
Military Veterans of Olivedale
Folks, we are on a roll! Having 30 days to fill
out the questionnaire for the dates to have our
two picnics and the bus trip. Thank you for
your help. The board of directors met on two
different days to upgrade our constitution and
by-laws. Treasurer, Bob Oiler and my
Secretary, Bob Ortman, spear headed our
project with additions and deleting some
Material, all for the good of our organization.
We also want to thank Ron Hiles for placing a
lock on our glass case. Our meetings are held
on the first and third Mondays of each
month at 1:00p. For more information on our

If you enjoy horses, don’t miss this month’s
display by John Dye who will share what he likes
to call his horse “history, art and play” exhibit. He
has interesting details on the history of horses,
some incredible art pieces and antique horse toys.
John has traveled the world and his displays are
always fascinating.

seminar Tuesday, April 18 at 2:00p at Olivedale.
Care Continuum Partners of South Central Ohio
and FMC Foundation will offer a free seminar with

Volunteer Luncheon
Welcome Aboard the S.S. Olivedale. Be
greeted by Captain Young and her crew and get set
to embark on a cruise where appreciation is the
destination. A trip with great food, great fun and
great volunteers! Shuffleboard on the Lido Deck,
dancing in the disco, and our galley crew will
present a grand buffet! The buffet will include:
hors d'oeuvres, sweet and sour chicken over rice,
seasonal vegetables, roll, and seaside dessert.
Arrive at 10:30a with your boarding pass. Enter
the main lounge at 11:00a, where Todd Berry will
entertain with his majestic voice. The buffet will
open at 11:30a. After, enjoy games and prizes, and
be swept away to the tropics with a performance by
our very own Olivedale Polynesian Dancers. On
behalf of all of our team members and crew, we
look forward to welcoming you aboard soon!

Olivedale presents a ‘Mini Art Show’ featuring
the works of those who attend the ‘Artists Hour’
on Monday afternoon and the ‘Art is 4 Everyone’
classes on Tuesday afternoon. Just like a recital
for musical artists, Olivedale will highlight
artwork pieces created by this small group of
painters on May 17 from 8:00a to 3:00p.
This show will coincide with our last pancake
breakfast of the season. Please come enjoy a
