DELTABOX
BA PROJECT
DELTA_BOX
BACHELOR PROJECT
DELTABOX is my bachelor project. When I was
around 10 years old, I watched a programme about
a girl who rode motocross, and has been fascinated
ever since. I got even more inspired when I heard
about Behnaz Shafiei who is one of the few women
in Iran riding motocross at a high level.
The fascination of these women and the motocross
universe have been my drive throughout this
project. I wanted to translate the functions and form
of the motocross bike into a piece of furniture. That
led me to the idea of speculative design thinking.
I wanted to transfer physical movement into a
stationary powerful futuristic object.
The process and inspiration have included;
motocross graphics, the separated motocross
elements, motocross production methods, e.g.
water transfer printing (video link below). I used
the inspiration to create all the parts; the seat, the
frame, the graphics etc.
PUR FOAM CHAIR
PUR FOAM CHAIR
STHLM FF 2015
In this KADK project, the task was to create a chair
capturing the essence of, in my case, Karl Lagerfeld
- chief editor of Chanel. I wanted to ’re-create’ the
quality stamp of Chanel, ’The quilted bag’. So I
developed a method to translate this expression
into an upholstery method.
The method consisted of 2 - component PUR
foam (Polyurethane) purred into a mould. The
foam expanded under a neoprene sheet and a grid
- and this created the quilted expression (see the
drawing/pictures).
The frame is bent manually in 5 mm flat steel and
the seat shell is made of birch veneer that is vacuum
pressed with a curved mold. The PUR CHAIR was
exhibited at Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2015 and
in Lokomotivhallerne Copenhagen.
1 - 3 AND A RESIN SADDLE
ONE TO THREE AND A
RESIN SADDLE
The idea behind this stool is basically a tube split
into three. During a blacksmith course, I developed
this principle using an oxygen and gas burner. By
milling 2 - 3 channels in a steel tube and heating
it up it is possible to bend the sides and make a
joining detail that is usable in many diffferent
constructions.
I used this method to create a knockdown stool that
consists of 6 small parts. I am currently working on
the moulding and casting of a transparent saddle
(as seen in the picture). The first test model is
cut out and shaped in XPS foam and then cast in
crystal clear PUR resin. Click on the thumbnail to
watch a video of the process (Test 1).
PRINCIPLES OF STATICS
PRINCIPLES OF STATICS
SEW CHAIR & BENCH
During a course in Principles of Statics at my
second year at KADK I created the SEW CHAIR
which consists of nothing but 3 mm birch veneer
and paracord. The 3 pieces (seat, left and right
side) is cut out of one sheet of veneer and placed in
hot water for 24 hour. After this the chair is “stiched”
together with paracord. That’s basically it.
The bench is a combination of the three principles:
Grid, shell, post chair. It consists of pinewood
(traditional joinery), bent 3 mm flat steel, and 5 mm
steel thread.
POP UP BOX
POP UP BOX
JAPAN EXHIBITION
I finished first semester of the Master education
at KADK. One of the projects was a collaboration
with Kyoto Institute of Technology. The task was to
create a collasible piece of furniture that could fit
inside the standard measurements of handluggage.
Together with my fellow students Oliver Söderlund
and Kristina Duhova I designed the POP-UP chair.
A box that can be folded flat and pops-up by itself
when thrown into the air.
The chair is inspired by japanese pop up books
and is made of birch veener and leathercord. The
stiching technique which makes the chair foldable
comes from japanese bookbinding. The woodenexpression
of the chair is made with a technique
called Udukuri -a japanese painting method to show
the details of the wood. We used a sandblaster,
paint and laquer for this. The box can be locked so
it doesn’t collaps when you sit on it - by pulling a
diagonal strap and fix it to the side of the box.
POP-UP was exhibited at KIT in Kyoto. The Danish
minister of culture Mette Bock came to visit us
(Video in the link below).
QUEER WELLNESS
QUEER WELLNESS
EMBROIDERY & DILDOS
Queer wellness a non-profit business that I am in
the process of developing. As an activist project
beside my studies I am making embroidered
caps and clothing. Some of it is made by hand,
and some produced in the UK. Everything is sold
for the manufacturing cost. My hope is to spread
a message within the themes of feminism, sex
positivism, body-positvism, anti-homophobia, antiheteronormativity
etc.
I also make costumized dildos and buttplugs.
These are outlined and shaped (by hand) in XPS
foam, then cast in aluminium. Apart from their main
function, another idea behind the dildos, is to create
a sculptural object that you don’t want to hide.
JAPANESE ROOF FOR
MADAMA BUTTERFLY
During an internship at Maja Ziska, scenography, I
drew and built a scale model of a Japanese Roof
for the Opera, Madama Butterfly (http://www.
lamonnaie.be/fr/program/17-madama-butterfly)
The roof is supposed to symbolize Madama
Butterfly’s house. The roof was used in both acts.
Furthermore I created the model of the stage at La
Monnaie (The Royal Opera, Brussels – the model
is seen in the picture).
The opera premiered in February 2017 and can be
streamed online - click the link below (arte.tv).
HAMLET EXHIBITION
WALK AND WALK-IN
During my internship at Maja Ziska I helped
developing the set design and the workpieces
for an exhibition about Shakespeares Hamlet at
Rudolph Tegners Museum in Dronningmølle.
The exhibition consists of 12 racks that each
represent a character from the play. Different
elements/props are used to tell the story of Hamlet,
Ophelia etc. Ex. The dried herbs Ophelia decribes
in the play. In addition to this we also made 12
stackable stools.
Another part of the exhibition is a videowalk/guide.
FAN OUT 2016
EXHIBITION DESIGN
Together with Maja Ziska I developed and built
the scenography for FAN OUT, Copenhagen
Fashionweek 2016. The exhibition took place in the
old post office facilities at Tietgengade and is the
biggest FAN OUT so far.
FAN OUT is a group exhibition that combines
fashion design with performance, light-installations,
music and talks.
The vision behind FAN OUT is to create a space
where both established and upcoming artists
meet in an inspiring and creative community. The
exhibition illustrates fashion beyond a show and
gives the audience an unique experience of design
in a new artistic context. FAN OUT is hosted by
the Danish fashion designer and boutique owner
Sabine Poupinel. - From fanoutcph.com
TRENTEMØLLER
REDEFINE VIDEO SET
In collaboration with my fellow student Fatima
Fransson I designed some of the scenography for
Trentemøllers musicvideo Redefine - Directed by
Andreas Emenius and Åsa Riton.
We designed and welded eleven logo signs in
steel and plaster. Furthermore I worked as an art
assistant the days before and while shooting the
video: Contacting the companies that lent props for
the set design, helped setting up the scenes etc.
In the link below you can watch the video. The
signs were used for an exhibition afterwards.
