The Berlin Wall
→ This wall was originally to
be built under the pretext of
increasing population.
However, a short time later he
began to hear that he was
going to do for a difference of
thoughts and opinions. And
finally the decision was taken
officially.
→ Now the consequences are
many. Many families have
been divided, many have
become homeless since many
of the houses were demolished
during construction, and last
but not least, too many people
have died in this time.
→ This is due to all those
people who have been isolated
from their loved ones and want
to be with them under all circumstances.
But as they are
→ After several years of
construction, the Wall of Shame
or the Anti-Fascist Wall is
finished. For a few it will be a
great joy, while for others it
will be a huge problem.
→ This wall separates the two
sides in which Germany has
separated. However, it is much
more than a mere physical separation,
for it has also separated
families and friends who
must think in a certain way,
since they have not even been
given the choice.
not allowed to move from one
place to another they have no
choice but to cross the wall risking
their own lives. So far,
few have crossed and too many
have died. And yet the security
is greater; Not so that they do
not die, if not so that they do
not happen.

Why the Berlin Wall?
→ Today, everyone here, we
have ever wondered why the
Berlin Wall was actually built.
There are many hypotheses
and many people give different
reasons, but in truth we do not
know their true history.
→ Good news, our newspaper
has investigated to reach the
following conclusions about
the construction of the Berlin
Wall:
→ First, World War II was
over and Berlin was divided
into four sectors of occupation;
Soviet, American, French and
English. Due to the bad relations
between the communists
and the allies, two coins, two
political ideals and two Germanies
appeared.
→ Then, in 1949, the three
western sectors (American,
French and British) were called
the German Federal Republic
(RFA) and the Eastern
sector (Soviet) became the
German Democratic Republic
(GDR). Berlin was divided and
81 points of passage between
the two areas of the city were
created. Later, almost three
million people left East Germany
behind to enter capitalism.
→ The GDR began to realize
the loss of its population and,
on the night of 12 August
1961, decided to stand a temporary
wall and close 69
control points, leaving only 12
open.
→ The next morning a 155-
kilometer provisional fence
had been placed between the
two parts of Berlin. The means
of transportation were interrupted
and no one could cross
from one part to another.
During the following days, the
construction of a brick wall
began and people whose houses
were on the construction
line were evicted.
→ Over the years, there were
many attempts to escape, some
successfully, that’s why the
wall was expanded to
unsuspected limits to increase
its security.
→ The Berlin Wall eventually
became a concrete wall
between 3.5 and 4 meters high,
with an interior made up of
steel cables to increase its
strength. At the top they placed
a hemispherical surface so no
one could get hold of it.
→ Accompanying the wall, the
so-called "death belt" was
created, consisting of a moat, a
fence, a road that constantly
circulated military vehicles,
alarm systems, automatic
weapons, surveillance towers
and patrols accompanied by
dogs 24 hours of the day.
Trying to escape was very
dangerous and risky. Even so,
many tried.
→ As we all know, there are
people in favor of the wall and
others who completely disagree,
you can communicate
with the newspaper to share
your opinion.

Walter Ulbricht
Today we will interview Walter Ulbricht, president of the
state of the German Democratic Republic.
- Good afternoon.
- Good afternoon.
- I have understanded that you fled in 1933 because of the
takeover by the Nazis, how did you feel?
- Yes, the truth is that I was very scared to be a communist
leader. But together with other communists I managed to take
refuge in the USSR.
- What did you do after World War II?
- After all this disaster, I went back to Germany and became one
of the main leaders of the SED.
- And, can you explain what the Ulbricht Doctrine consists of?
- Of course, this is that the only diplomatic relations would only happen if both states recognized
absolute sovereignty.
- Well, but one last question.
- Go ahead.
- How do you feel when you see that he is the president of a republic?
- The truth is that I never thought I would get to this situation and feel good, having had a past as
terrible as mine.
- Well, thank you very much for answering my questions.
- It has been a pleasure.
The coffee crisis
Economic problems are shown
due to the decline in coffee.
Apparently the prices of coffee
and large coffee imports have
been compared with previous
years, so the GDR has decided
to create the new Mischkaffee,
but unfortunately the population
is not happy with this
coffee because of its bad taste.
This new drink contains coffee,
but also contains chicory,
beets and rye. And many
brands of coffee have been
removed. And not only that,
but a treaty is being signed
with Vietnam, one of the
largest coffee carriers in the
world.
The first victim
Dies after surrendering by police shots.
Litfin was in the east because
he was helping his brother with
a move just on August 12, the
day before Germany divided.
Yesterday morning, August 13,
when Litfin wanted to go
home, he was found several
police officers who didn´t let
him pass to the west of
Germany, where he lived and
where he worked. At four in
the afternoon he tried again to
escape. His plan was to cross a
canal that united the east with
the west but the police
discovered it and ordered him
to return. Litfin didn´t want to
do it and was shot. Litfin's
body was found this morning
on the River Spree.

Waldemar Cierpinski
>
Cierpinski is a German sportsman belonging to the GDR. He is an athlete who
participated in marathons and was not well known until now, he has become the new
Olympic champion of the marathon, a very important part of athletics. Our newspaper has
had the brilliant opportunity to interview this magnificent example of strength and
perseverance. We leave here the transcript of this interview:
-Good morning, Waldemar, it's a pleasure to have you with us.
-The pleasure is mine.
-Well, tell us, how do you feel now being the Olympic champion of your sport?
-Well, the truth is that it is very important, in fact, it is the most important thing that I have done in
my life and it is something that I will not forget, clearly, not every day you win Olympic Games.
-You're right; winning a medal in the Games will be an unforgettable experience.
-Yes. If I'm honest, I still do not believe it, it's as if I'm dreaming.
-It's normal, because getting that is a dream, was it yours?
-In my opinion, all athletes have the same dream, winning the Olympics, but I saw it as an
impossible goal that I did not even dream.
-Fine words; But you have already realized that it was not impossible, because you have done it.
-Yes, once you get something like that, you realize that you can make any wish come true.
-I'm glad of hearing that. And, tell us, how did you come to love your sport?
-You know, I always liked to run, I had very good resistance as a kid and I do not know why, but
running made me free of any frustration or worry. Then I was practicing more and more and better,
until I got to major competitions, and finally, to the Olympic Games.
- Have you never been interested in other sports?
-Sure. For example, I loved football because they are 90 minutes without stopping, only that break
of 15 minutes; the rest is non-stop and full-blown. I also liked basketball a lot, for the same reason,
a lot of time being at the maximum.
-They are very famous and well-known sports, how did you not think of dedicating yourself to any
of them?
-Well, the truth is, I'm not passionate; I mean, when I practice them some evenings with my friends,
I do not feel that they are my sport or my strong point.
-Oh, sure. Well, according to the sources and images revealed in the media, you have made friends
with your opponents of this competition, how has it happened?
-The case is that we all have the same dreams and feel the same for our sport, passion. Then we
understand ourselves and we know the sacrifices we have to make, by this way friendship is
created.
-OK, If I ask you to mention one of the best friends you've ever made in these competitions, who
would you name?"
-A lot of people will not believe it, but I promise you that one of the best friends I've ever done is
Gerard Nijboer.
-Why do you think people could not believe it?
-Because he's been my biggest rival, so they think we hate each other because we're competing for
the gold medal. But really, he's a great friend.
-Well, I'm glad that thanks to the marathon you have become good friends and fulfilled many goals
and dreams that you thought impossible.
-Thank you very much, and it has been a pleasure to have been here.
-The pleasure is ours, thank you for coming.

The Neo-expresionism, a new art
Cuadro de Franz Ackermann
Recent changes have begun to
take place in German art. The
pictures begin to be characterized
by their aggressiveness,
their stark themes, the way
they are treated and the use of
images easily recognizable as
the human body, all of them
drawn very roughly.
→ We begin to believe that
this new movement that has
been called Neo-expressionism
has emerged as a reaction
against minimalism and conceptual
art, which have predominated
over the past decade.
→ Neo-expressionism is based
on German expressionism and
partly on traditional art. But
unlike members of other
movements, the Neo-Expressionists
have not broken with
the art of their country immediately
before them, if not that
they have accepted as masters
great artists such as Wolf
Volsten.
→ The works of this nascent
movement are easily identifiable
because they are (in
general) large works, and a
peculiar technique called dripping,
which consists of gestural
brushstrokes applied in a
violent way on the fabric thus
producing that feeling of
aggressiveness in the pictures .
→ It must also be said that
they are works that do not
totally reject abstraction, in
which they use a wide chromatic
ranges and intense color
contrasts.
→ Neo-Expressionism is
greatly emphasizing because it
is the first German post-war
movement that has faced its
own history, assuming the
emptiness of the Nazi era to be
ironic and ridiculous.
Having taken as an example a
myriad of great past works, a
great number of artists are
beginning to emerge thanks to
his own art, among which he is
considered the creator of Neoexpressionism:
Georg Baselitz.
