Greetings my dear readers, welcome to our
12th edition of Wisdom Magazine
The Lord gave the Word, great is the company of those who publish
and proclaim it Psalm 68 v 11
The end is not near, the end is here.
you that if you honour God, put Him first and
foremost, seek His Kingdom and Righteousness , He
will honour you and reside inside you and put you
first wherever you find yourself. You will rule and
reign with Him. Obedience to Him is all He requires.
You obey, it will be well with you, you disobey Him
and it will not be well with you. It is a principle you or
I can not change or do anything about.
Even when you obey Him, He will still take you
through tough disciplined life to prepare you for
ruling and reigning with Him. Before a child is born to
this world mum must go through hours of labour pain
before she has the joy of holding a bundle of joy boy
or girl in her arms and be called mum. Nothing good
is cheap and nothing cheap is good. It is a principle.
Friends, we are living in the end times. Jesus is
coming back soon as Judge this time. He will only
harvest obedient sons and daughters for eternal life.
Sons and daughters of disobedience will go to eternal
punishment called hell. Remember that spirit beings
can never die be it good or evil. There shall be
separation on the day of reckoning called day of
Judgement. Repent and confess your sins now that
God still make grace easily available for even the
worse of sinners. Today is the day of Salvation,
tomorrow may be too late. To say the sinners prayer
and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour please go
to the page with the sinner' s prayer in this edition.
Peace, love, joy, prosperity and wisdom be
multiplied unto your life, family, business and ministry
in Jesus name amen.
As usual, Wisdom Magazine is striving to be a
The world seems to be on fire, the Bible is
coming alive before our very eyes day by day.
What manner of people ought us to be? There
are usually only two categories or choices in life. Five
wise virgins and five foolish virgins. Sons and
daughters of obedience and sons and daughters of
disobedience. Life or death, heaven or hell, for God
or against God. God gave us power of choice but
there are usually two to chose from. We are free to
chose but we don't chose the consequences of our
choices, that is automatically applied. Cause and
effect is an eternal law that can never change. Deut
30 v 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today
against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both
you and your descendants may live
The choices that we make in life determines where
weareinthesocietyinthissideofeternity(world)
andontheothersideofeternityHeavenorhell).
Don't be deceived we are primarily a spirit being with
a soul to chose between the two choices available to
us at any given point in time housed in a body. Spirits
don't die be it Holy Spirit or evil spirit. We must learn
to make the right choices in life from a very young
age. A life of discipline as a lifestyle from young is
priceless
Those who discipline their lives with intensionality
are the successful and wealthy few in the population.
They stay up studying while others are sleeping. They
journal all their thoughts and words and creatively
turn them to books, movies, drama. They discipline
what food and drinks that goes into their body. They
discipline their ears to only hear edifying word and
run from gossip. Their words are few but impactful.
They don't stay hours unending watching TV or ball,
they rather put the drama on the television for others
to watch. They obey God and Government even when
no one is watching. Life of integrity is life that they
have signed up for with intentionality and
purposefully.
A LIFESTYLE COVENANT PART 1
“Is not my house f irm before God? He has made an eternal
covenant with me; set forth in detail and secured. Will he not
bring to fruition all my salvation and my every desire? TNASB
“Yes, my House stands f irm with God: He has made an eternal
covenant with me, all in order, well assured; does He not bring
to fruition my every victory and desire? TNJB.
Beloved,
My heart overflows with a covenant theme, I will publish the
good news of the wondrous love of God - His love dispensed to
man in covenant form- the covenant of grace. It is about the love
of God that is given to us in a form that is most easily accessible,
desirable, and believable. It is the same unchanging and
unconditional love of God but it is dispensed to us in a form that
can readily and easily awakens desires and arouses faith.
Moreover, it is given to us in a form that will always bring to pass
the desires of man and restore to man faith in the living God!. It
is my desire that we take a closer look at this“better covenant
which was established on better promises:” to gaze upon “the
ministry of the Spirit which is more glorious” and to behold
the “ministry of righteousness which exceeds much more in
glory.” Friend, join me with your heart and mind as we pray the
Holy Spirit to take us into the inner chamber of His covenant
where we can look upon all the hues of the rainbow of His
covenant around His throne (Ez.1 v 28 & Rev.4 v 3). And as we do
that we may be transformed to His likeness and also that His
name will be photographed upon our brows. Rev.22 v 3-4. May
the Spirit help us that we may burn with zeal and love for our
Redeemer and yield our lives as a living sacrifice bound to the
horn of the altar with cords of His love. As it is written, “God is the
Lord Who has given us light; bind the sacrifice with cords to
horns of the altar.” Ps118 v 24. Bound to the horns of the altar
with cords of love that cannot be broken. Let the people say a
believing amen.
In this study, we are set to explore the heart of the covenant:
its nature and meaning from the various principles involved and
to familiarise ourselves with covenant terminologies. We shall
become familiar with words such as ‘loving-kindness’, ‘cleaving
and commitment,’ ‘the covenant formula’ and its meaning, ‘the
people of God’ and its rich meaning and implications: as well as
looking at types and shadows from the Old Covenant to bring
home the meaning and the outworking of a covenant union in
Pastor Adeyemi
the life of a Child of God.
Moreover, you will be acquainted with life principles which
are scattered all over the write-up worth their price in gold.
Sparkling with wisdom and spiced with concepts for practical
and experimental living, you will acquire skill necessary for
lifestyle covenant. Some of these golden nuggets are stated
expressly while some you must read between the lines to find
them. If you pay close attention to these spiritual nuggets and
treasure them as you would of silver and gold, then you will find
success in the ordinary course of your duty, victory and joy will
smile at you and honour and favour will be your companion in
your journey through life. Therefore read with studied and
calculated diligence; read meditatively and be painstakingly
thorough because somewhere hid in the write up is the principle
or the wisdom applicable or answerable to your current
circumstance. When you find one, treasure it and make sure you
do not lose it, rather capture it and tie it down with a
commitment. You will learn how to do that as you read on.
The covenant is a way of life-a modus vivendi; just like
marriage relationship which is the closest example of lifestyle
covenant in the natural. It is a vibrant, day to day living
relationship. It is God’s recommended way of living-the kingdom
lifestyle for all His children. Above all it is a desirable lifestyle.
Unfortunately the overwhelming ignorance of the knowledge of
the covenant among Christians is almost universal as well as
alarming. Therefore, an attempt is made in this letter to tackle
this culprit, to foster and to facilitate the knowledge of the
covenant among believers that will lead to a smooth transition
to a covenant lifestyle.
Let us therefore begin with the nature of the covenant by
looking at our main text above. As a general observation, the text
above is the word of a sage, ripe in age and full of experience in
God and with God. In fact it is more like a death-bed will, full of
hindsight and insight; ‘rich in honey from the rock and oil from
the flinty rock;’ inspired in totality by the Holy Spirit and full of
comfort and consolation. It will be worth our while to look
carefully into this passage of Scripture that we may drink deep
from the consolation “Of this well-refined wines on the lees,” and
thereby increase in learning and attain to wise counsel.
Beloved, David as a prophet spoke here by the Holy Spirit of
his dynasty being firmly established before God. He foresaw and
spoke concerning Christ, his seed, the greater David by whom
God was going to make the covenant eternally firm. In fact one
version reads, “For is not my house so with El? For he has made
an everlasting covenant with me, ordered in all matters and
guarded. For all my deliverance and all desire, shall He not make
it send forth a Branch.” . The word ‘Branch’ refers to Jesus as
prophesied in Zech.6 v 12-13; the one who will build the spiritual
temple, the Gospel Church; Who shall have a throne and be both
priest and king on His throne, the Mediator and the Surety of the
eternal covenant. He is the seed of Abraham; the Son of David
with Whom God cut the covenant on behalf of man.
In the first place we observe that the covenant is an eternal
agreement. Now, being a covenant of peace - (a pactum salutis); it
completely sets free from the derangement and distress caused by
sin and perfectly meets the needs of man. As an eternal covenant,
it fully provides for all the need of man spirit, soul and body. It
takes care of the need of man here (grace) and hereafter (glory). It
is a complete package and what is said of the word of God can be
said of the covenant, for it is the word of the covenant. Therefore,
the covenant is eternal in duration, infinite in scope,
inexpressible in value, regenerative in power, inspired in totality,
infallible in authority, universal in interest and personal in
application. It is all you need. The covenant will outlive
everything because the covenant of grace is as firm as the
covenant of the day. God’s covenant of day and night is that
which is spoken in Gen.8 v 22. “While the earth remains,
seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and
day and night shall not cease.” So God confirms this to us in Jer.33
v 20-21 as the covenant of day and night. Read this with
me: “Thus says the Lord: ‘If you canbreak My covenant with the
day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be
day and night in their season, then shall My covenant may also
be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a
son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My
ministers.”
You will agree with me that the course of nature is constantly
changing, yet it is constant in this inconstancy. These seasons have
never ceased nor shall cease. The sun continues as a steady
measure of time and the moon a faithful witness in heaven. This
is the covenant of day and night that is mentioned in Jeremiah
and quoted above to confirm the covenant of grace. The good
news is that as the covenant of day and night is firm, the covenant
of grace is firmer still. When you see day and night changing and
the seasons alternating, let it remind you of your covenant with
your heavenly Father. God speaking about this eternal covenant
to us in Ps 89 v 34-37 says it again very loud and clear: “My
covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that is gone out of
My lips. Once have I sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David:
His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before
Me; It shall be established forever like the moon, even like the
faithful witness in the sky.” Here again God pointed to the sun
and the moon - covenant of day and night - as a confirmation of
the strength, permanence and the validity of the covenant of
grace. Friend, it is the most powerful document in the universe,
it absolutely cannot be broken. Being inviolable, it is of permanent
validity. It is referred to as ‘the blessing of Abraham,’ ‘the
promises’ as well as ‘the covenant’ in Gal.3 v 13-18. Please read
with me:“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law,
having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is
everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham
might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might
receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Brethren, I speak
in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet
if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. Now to Abraham
and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to
seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is
Christ. And this I say, that the law , which was four hundred and
thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was
confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the
promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no
longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.”
Therefore, the blessing of Abraham, the covenant and the
promises are all yours, all awaiting your action and commitment!
Never again separate the blessing from the covenant!
We note in the second place that the covenant is ‘wellordered
in all matters’ or ‘set forth in detail.’ The covenant is the
design of an infinite mind. The wisdom of God designed the
eternal covenant so that it includes all things and excludes
nothing. Ps16 v 5-6 from the Young Literary Translation we read:
“Jehovah is the portion of my share, and of my cup, Thou – Thou
dost uphold my lot. Lines have fallen for me in pleasant places,
yea, a beauteous inheritance is for me.” The implication of this
6
7
is that God Himself is your allotted portion. Whatever your
desires may be, even if it is not yet in existence, He will create
it! The All-Sufficient God is your portion! You can only ‘take hold
of Him’ or rather appropriate His all-Sufficiency through the
covenant. Friend, all your portions in God are included in the
covenant. In fact, the New Jerusalem Bible version says it this
way, “..my lot is all I could wish for.” Moreover this covenant is
both a will and a testament, and it made us an heir of God and
a joint heir with Jesus Christ. By the tenor of this eternal
covenant, we were adopted into the family of God and given
the privileges of sons. See Rom.8 v 15-17, 1 Cor.3 v 21-23, Gal.3
v 15-17, 4 v 4-7 and Heb.9 v 16-17, It is all you need in time and
eternity. May God in His infinite mercy give us the heart and the
desire for the covenant and the ability to work faithfully in this
covenant with Him. May He create in us according to His love, a
steadfast and a committed heart just as like Abraham and cause
the voice of this prayer to be heard; to let it come up to His holy
dwelling place in heaven, as He did in the days of Hezekiah
when “the priests and Levites arose and blessed the people,
and their voice was heard and their prayer came up to His holy
dwelling place, in heaven.” May He implant the desire and the
love for the covenant in us and incline His ears to hear.
Amen. Ps10 v 17.
Thirdly, this covenant is ‘well assured’ or ‘guarded
or ‘secured,’ and therefore cannot fail. It is referred to in Isa.55
v 3 as the ‘sure mercies of David’. Please read with me: “Incline
your ear and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I
will make an everlasting covenant with you-The sure mercies
of David.” When Jesus, the greater David, to whom this promise
was made, rose from the dead, this ‘sure mercies of
David’ became the possession of all the children of God who will
ever receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour; the federal
head. This is written for us in Acts13 v 33-34.“God has fulfilled
this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is
also written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son, today I have
begotten You.’ And that He raised Him from the dead, no more
to return to corruption, He has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the
sure mercies of David.’” Everything about this covenant is sure
and well assured; and when we channel our desires and hopes
through it, they cannot fail more than God can fail. Jesus stands
as the surety or guarantor of this covenant. Heb.7 v 22. He is the
only one who has ever died and risen again to probate His own
will. What He died for, He is enthroned at the right hand of the
Majesty on high to make sure we get it. This is why the
covenant is the springboard of hope and desire. There is no heir
of salvation who is hopeless, no not one! Eph.2 v 11-12,
says: “Therefore remember that you were once Gentiles in the
flesh- who are called Uncircumcision by what is called
Circumcision made in the flesh by hands- that at that time you
were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of
Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no
hope and without God in the world.” When I look at the state
of the Church today, its poverty and lack of understanding of the
covenant, it moves me to tears. Why should we continue to live
as Gentiles, as if though we are without Christ, aliens from the
commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of
promise? Is not our lack of understanding of covenant the robber
and the armed man that has kept us captive? Friend, I challenge
you to take a good look at yourself, reflect on what you are and
where you are as opposed to where you ought to be or where or
what you could be by the covenant and let that challenge and
move you to the depth of your being. Let it move you into prayer
and the laying hold of other means of grace to make this
covenant your experience. Beloved, if Jesus went to the limit by
shedding His blood to make this covenant available to us; it will
be a crime on our part if we do not do all that lies within us to
make it our living experience. Let His Blood be precious to you
and the purchase of His Blood and let that move you to your
knees as you cry to God for an understanding of a covenant
union and the establishment of His covenant with you! The word
of the Psalmist is conclusive here; “They do not know, nor do
they understand; all the foundations of the earth are unstable.
I said, ‘You are gods, and all of you are children of the Most
High. But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the
princes.’”The covenant provided for us to live as gods in the
world. It is the covenant that is the wellspring and the fountain
of strong and robust faith. Oh, how we need to long and desire
for God to make us a witness of the power, the blessings, the
wisdom and the glory of the covenant! See Isa.55 v 4. God told
Abraham, “And I will establish (set up on a firm or permanent
basis) My covenant between Me and you and your
descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting
covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after
you.“ Gen.17 v 7. You are the seed of Abraham in this
generation, so you are qualified for the best and the highest
expression of covenant lifestyle in this generation. Are not, “All
the promises of God in Him Yes and in Him Amen to the glory
of God though us?” You have a covenant right to cry to God to
establish the same covenant with you as He did of Isaac, Jacob,
David, and so on. Beloved, nothing else satisfies apart from the
covenant! ”Why do you spend your money for what is not
bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen
carefully to Me and eat what is good and let your soul delight
itself in fatness/abundance.” Isa.55 v 2. Nothing outside of the
covenant guarantees your fulfilment or satisfaction; only the
covenant is guaranteed and tailor-made for your nature and
your need!
“Weapon of Warfare”. To start with, who is Judah? Judah is the
fourth son Leah had for Jacob. The Hebrew name “Judah”
means Praise – Reading the story from Genesis chapter 29 Leah
was the unloved, but first wife of Jacob. Leah engaged herself in a
campaign to win the love and attention of her husband and this is
reflected in the names she gave her first three sons; The first was
named Rueben meaning “Look at Me”, but her husband hardly
glance at her, the second she named Simeon meaning “Hear me”,
the third was named Levi meaning “Join with me”, but none of
these names achieved her aim. So Leah decided to name her fourth
son Judah because with the birth of this son, she chose to praise
the Lord. She knew that Jacob did not love her in spite of the fact
she had borne him 3 sons. But at some point between the 3rd and
4th son, she decided not to lament Jacob’s lack of love for her; so
in verse 35 we read “Once again Leah became pregnant and gave
birth to another son. She named him Judah, for she said, “Now I
will praise the Lord!” (Gen 29:35 NLT). It is from this passage that
we derive the meaning of the name JUDAH, being “PRAISE”.
We can also note that in the early days after the Israelites had
got to the Promised Land, most times when they are going into
battle to possess a new territory, God often says to them “Judah
will go first” (Judges 1:1-2; Judges 20:18); In other words, God is
saying before you go out you have to send “Praise” before you.
Brethren, Praise has to go out before you can come out of any
situation that the enemy want to keep you in or come out
victorious of any battle of life. That is the criteria of getting out of
caged situation, the criteria of living a victorious life. And the reason
why some people are never going to get out of difficult situations is
because they think it is the Praise Team job or the Preacher’s job to
praise the Lord, but you aren’t going to get out until you send praise
out ahead of you. That is why some of us are very desperate with
our praise and feel the needfulness to praise the Lord – Because
you don’t go anywhere that your praise had not already gone before
you - Lord I thank you for my breakthrough even before you get it;
Lord I praise you for my healing, for my new job, for my family saved
and in church even before you seen it, you’ve got to send praise out
before you get out.
When you start praising God, things will start moving in the
spiritual realm, there will be a recalibration of divine forces in the
spiritual real to dislodge powers of darkness from their established
positions. Praising the Lord puts the devil to flight – This is what
happened in Acts 16:25-26 when Paul and Silas pray and sang songs
of praise unto the Lord in the prison “And at midnight Paul and Silas
prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard
them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the
foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the
doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed - Why?
Because God dwells in Praise (Psalms 22:3).
We also read in Psalms 114:3-4 “The Sea saw it and fled; Jordan
was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills
like lambs – Praise activate the presence of God the Most High into
any situation.
In 2 Chronicles 20, the nation of Israel was faced with an
impending doom and disasterous situation as three powerful allied
armies raised war against them, the odd was overwhelming against
Israel as they were physically outnumbered and the battle looked as
if it was over before it began. In the natural, things looked bad for
the Israelite, but all things are possible with God. The night before
the battle, God spoke through the mouth of His prophet Jahaziel
and a war plan war given to God’s people (2 Chr 20:14-17). The next
morning, Jehoshaphat according to the word of God appointed
“singers unto the Lord” to go out before the army to worship the
Lord. It was then that the Lord set ambushes against the Israelites
enemies! As God’s people worshiped and sang, the enemy armies
slew each other! (Verses 18-24). This is a picture or “type” of what
PRAISE can cause to happen in the spirit realm during Spiritual
Warfare
Praise is more than music, praise is more than singing; praise is
a powerful weapon of spiritual warfare. Praise is the heavenly
language of victory through Christ Jesus. No matter what pain or
tragedy you may be going through, you can come out with victory
if you are a “PRAISER”. You can’t allow your emotion to stop you
from praising the Lord. If you always want to win you must cultivate
the attitude of praise. It doesn’t matter how big or strong your
enemy is.
Why is PRAISE (JUDAH) a powerful and potent weapon of
spiritual warfare?
Genesis 49:8-9 gave us a great insight. When Jacob was dying,
he called all his sons and he became to prophesy over them and
these are some of the things that he said about Judah (Praise);
Gen 49:8a - “Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall
praise;”- When you are “Praiser”, praise will come back to you. You
will be praised and honoured by others. Your life will be so eminent
and glorious, that others will praise you; that is, you will be
distinguished beyond all the others
Gen 49: 8b – “Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies;”–
You will be empowered over your enemy. Praise places your hand
tightly around the neck of your enemy to choke, rout and subdue
them. David the master “Praiser”, said in Psalms 18:40 “Thou hast
also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them
that hate me”. When a man has his hand securely in the neck of his
enemy, he has subdued him. He is in complete control of the enemy
and can at his pleasure snuff out the enemy’s breath and destroys
him. A Praisers shall be successful and victorious in war. David said
in Psalms 18:33-34 “He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth
me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war, so that a
bow of steel is broken by mine arms”
Gen 49: 9- Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou
art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old
lion; who shall rouse him up? – Praise makes you alive and agile,
always ready for action – you are not a depressed, fearful victim.
No one dare mess with you.
The lion was the standard of Judah; the lion is a symbol of
strength, boldness and courage. Symbol of royalty, courage and
concquest! The lion is the king of beasts, the terror of the forest
when he roars; when he seizes his prey, none can resist him; when
he goes up from the prey, none dare pursue him to revenge it. Not
only should Judah obtain great victories, but should peaceably and
quietly enjoy what was obtained by those victories
Deuteronomy 33:7 “And this is the blessing of Judah: and he
said, Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people:
let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from
his enemies. A person of praise is empowered by God and has the
attention and the support of God in every battle of life
Psalm 149:5-9 says, “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them
sing aloud upon their beds. 6 LET THE HIGH PRAISES OF GOD BE IN
THEIR MOUTH, and a two-edged sword in their hand; 7 To execute
vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people”
———. Praising the Lord puts the devil to flight. And with the
Praises of God in our mouths we execute the judgment written
upon the forces of hell and bind them with chains. This is our
privilege and our responsibility
Your praise will keep the promises of God for you life and brings
them into manifestation. Your praise can change things, breaking
the hold of Satan from your promises. It doesn’t matter what kind
of pain or hurt, what kind of disgrace or humiliation you had been
through, if you praise the Lord He will bring you out.
I want to challenge those of you who may be neck-deep in battle
of life right now. In the heat of your spiritual battle let Praise go up
first. Let the praises of God go forth out of your mouth. Let the
praises of God be as rivers of living water flowing from your belly.
Rather than spending and wasting time in talking and moaning
about the problem and how bad things are, stir up the power that
God has already given you in your praises to Him; sacrificial though
it may be. Praise will help you hold up until God shows up!
Praise takes away your focus from the things you do not have to
who you have; because the one you have owns the universe.
Remember this always, God is fearful in praises, doing wonders Ex
15:11. When you praise God, he does fearful and incredible things.
Remember the fall of Jericho
God said to me “Don’t let your trouble exemplified your Praise
and your Worship; “Your Praise is your weapon of war and your
Worship is what will defend and protect your destiny.” He said the
devil will think he had got you because of what you are going
through but He said if you can praise God as if you are not going
through nothing, that makes the devil mad!
Whatever battle of life you may be facing, just like Israel did; LET
JUDAH GO OUT OF YOUR MOUTH FIRST. Shalom! Shalom!!
Lunar Eclipse
in Nigeria
The National Space Research and Development Agency
NASRDA, has said there will be a Lunar Eclipse on 28
September which will be observed in Nigeria.
In a statement from the Media and Corporate
Communicaons of the Agency, the lunar eclipse
will begin on Monday 28 September, 2015 from
1:11am, and will be at its maximum by 3:47 am, with
its final contact by 6:22am.
According to the Agency, the Lunar eclipse is an
astronomical event that occurs when the earth comes
in-between the sun and the moon, and the earth cast
its shadow on the moon, so that the moon appear
reddish.
The lunar eclipse which is also called the blood moon
will be observed in some regions around the world.
Some of the regions seeing at least some parts of the
eclipse include, Europe, South/East Asia, Africa, much
of North America, much of South America, Pacific,
Atlanc, Indian Ocean, Arcc, and Antarcca.
However, the lunar eclipse will be viewed in Nigeria
especially in locaons with the absence of cloud
cover.
Furthermore, the lunar eclipse will be visible in Abuja,
and would begin from 1:11am, with total eclipse at
3:47am, and end by 6:22am.
Nigerians are advised not to
panic, and to go about their
normal acvies as it is just an
astronomical event which will
last for 5 hours 11 minutes.
Communicaons
The practice of Parent/Baby Dedication is found in the
Bible when Hannah presents Samuel to the Lord and
when Joseph and Mary present Jesus at the temple. (1
Samuel 1:28, Luke 2:22, NKJV)
The numerous Scripture references concerning parenting
help us to realise its importance to God. From the very
beginning of the family, He established the best plans for
children and their parents, and he shares them in His Word, the
Bible.
For example, God commands parents to love Him and His
commands, and then teach these to their children, and then
teach these to their children, so that their children may also have
a relationship with the Lord:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your strength. And
these words which I command you today shall be in
your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your
children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your
house, when you walk by the way, when you lie
down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as
a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets
between your eyes. You shall write them on the
doorposts of your house and your gates.”
(Deuteronomy 6:5-9, NKJV)
And that from childhood you have known the Holy
Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (2
Timothy 3:15, NKJV)
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to
wrath, but bring them up in the training and
admonition of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4, NKJV)
...(We will tell) the generation to come the praises of
the Lord, and His Strength and His wonderful works
that He has done...that they may set their hop in
God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His
commandments... (Psalm 78:4 & 7, NKJV)
Church Involvement
The Parent/Baby Dedication is also a time in which the church
congregation commits to help support the parents in the
nurturing and spiritual well training of their child. The church
desires to minister to the needs of families by building
relationships and serving them with enthusiasm.
God commands the church body to minister to each member
as well:
... But God composed the body, having given greater
honour to that part which lacks it, that there should
be no schism in the body, but that the members
should have the same care for one another. And if
one member suffers, all the members suffer with it,
or if one member is honoured, all the members
rejoice with it. (1 Corinthians 12:24-26, NKJV)
Let each of you look our not only for his own
interests, but also for the interests to others.
(Philippians 2:4, NKJV)
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion
for one another; love as brothers, be tender hearted,
be courteous. (1 Peter 3:8, NKJV)
PRAYER
The Parent/Baby Dedication is a time of prayer as well. The
parents, pastor and congregation pray that parents will raise
their children to follow the Lord and that each child will someday
accept Jesus Christ as his or her personal saviour and Lord.
God also calls parents to pray for their children continually:
I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention
of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of Glory, may give you the spirit of
wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.
(Ephesians 1:16-17. NKJV)
Pray without ceasing.
(1 Thessalonians 5:17, NkjV0
... The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man
avails much.
(James 5:16b, NKJV)
DATING or
Courtship?
Dr Toks Onabanjo
You’ve met him/her, you are attracted to each other and you have the intention of
marrying each other and already set in motion some pre-marriage program that would
help both of you understand each other better.
The next queson then becomes how long should I go
out with him or her before marrying? With the
deceits of the devil and what some consider to be
economic sense, we now have people living together to see
if they are compable with each other? Or geng to know
the other person before marriage. In a ten year period, 1990
– 2000 people living together without being married
increased 26%.
I personally believe that the confusion starts with the
definion of what we call the wait period between meeng
each other and eventually geng married.
According to Bob and Margaret Blood 1972, Dang is
defined as an associaon of persons for purposes of
companionship with no necessary intenon to get married.
When I speak I poll my audience if they agree with the
definion of dang and usually over 90% agree with the
above definion of dang. The problem with this definion
is that it opens up a Pandora box of problems.
· Proximity with someone you have feeling for usually
would lead to arousing love before it is desired (Songs of
Songs 2: 7, 3: 5)
· “When you can drink the milk, why buy the cow” as the
old saying goes.
· Leaving together for economic purposes is also
considered (82% of those who live together before
marriage eventually divorce).
· Pregnancy before marriage is also in play here. Since
either of you are commied to each other, there is
usually someone else on the side just in case or for sex
purposes, which also brings in the issue of STD (sexually
transmied diseases)
· Emoonal rollercoaster is very big as well (will he propose
or not?). You and your friends would be watching the
calendar for days that you think he’ll do it; his every move
is interpreted, most mes wrongly.
I have not seen any of such relaon in the Bible, which I
consider the owner’s manual for relaonships (there is no
pre-marriage relaonship that is just for the fun of going out
– and please don’t tell me that mes have changed – if you
are a Chrisan you know beer).
Now let us consider Tommy Nelson’s definion of
courtship “Courtship is the me when you have decided to
go out with one person exclusively and frequently with the
intenon of one day geng married”.
From the above definion, one can conclude that
approaching a woman means, she could potenally be my
wife (all other things being equal), and I’m not approaching
this relaonship with the noon of “let’s just have fun”. This
is not popular because, it seems to people that the word
courtship means I must marry him or her. The other issue I
hear is “how do I get to know him or her” – the answer is
simple through a good pre-marriage program. I know people
engaged for years and sll do not know each other, also
when in the dang process; both people are usually at their
best behaviors, only to show the true color aer marriage.
The difference between the two for me is the phrase
“with the intenon of marriage” You can call your own dang
as long as it is with the intenon of marriage.
If you agree with my definions, then we can come to the
conclusion that high school students have no business having
boyfriends or girlfriends (especially because they are not
ready for marriage).
The Naonal Marriage Project of Rutgers University New
Jersey (2005) found out that divorce rate among a certain
group of Americans is around 20% or below (naonal
average is 50%). This group has the following in-common
· Both are college graduates
· Family income is around $50,000
· Parents on each side are sll married
· They recognize and pracce a religion
· They are both around 25 years of age when they got
married.
Please note that the age given above is more for the
maturity than the number. I know people who married at 22
years or less and they were more matured then, than many
people in their thires. For folks reading in Africa and
elsewhere, you can determine what the average income of
the middle class is in your country (an average graduate in
America earns about $24,000 - $30,000 a year).
It is okay to have friends that you hang out with, but do
it with other friends, don’t put yourself in situaon that you
are alone with someone you are aracted to? When you
believe you are ready for marriage, it could be as a single
adult already in the work force or graduate school. Then you
can entertain the advance of someone of the opposite sex,
get to know that person, observe some character traits, and
determine if you can live such traits. I know I’m repeang
myself, but please go through a pre-marriage program that
will objecvely analyze both of you (If your church does not
have one, check at other churches in your vicinity – most
large churches would have one).
Unl you say “I do” you can sll break any relaonship
off, if there are issues that bothers you about the person.
Usually, the issues don’t change aer marriage, we ignore it
or we think we’ll change the person.
CHARACTERISTICS OF COURTSHIP
· The relaonship must be with the intenons of marriage
· The me frame should not be too short or too long either
(I personally recommend anywhere between 2-3 years
aer meeng)
· Unl you marry, avoid being alone in a room or other
compromising places (you can go to the theatre, you are
not alone there). Both your homes alone (without family
or friends) should be a NO NO.
· Communicate on a deeper level – I have seen lives
transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is not
about the past but about who the person is now. Not
sharing your dark past could come back to hunt your
marriage creang serious trust problems.
· Do not determine for your spouse if he/she needed to
know your past, let him/her make that decision. While I
believe the past of a truly changed person should not be
a factor, I also believe that the other party should have
all the informaon to make a decision that would affect
his/her life for a long me.
· Never ever engage in pre-marital sex
DO NOT GET MARRIED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS
· Because you are pregnant – if someone had pre-marital
sex with you, chances are, he or she is not saved. So why
put yourself up with an unbeliever for life because you
are pregnant. If you both are believers and the pregnancy
(before marriage) was as a result of a one me fling, and
you truly desire each other, then get married.
· Rebound – just le a long or an emoonal relaonship
that took a lot out of you, and you are saying yes, to the
shoulder that is available for you to cry on.
· Rebellion – don’t marry just because you want to get
away from home (your parent or guardian).
· Out of guilt – don’t marry him/her because you feel sorry
for him/her, because he gave you money when you
needed it or he took care of your kids while you were
away somewhere else.
· Pressure – when family put pressure on you to marry
who they think would be best for you. For instance, many
parents would say yes to a boy with mulple degrees and
nice pedigree (family with big name), than a struggling
graduate with potenal (you don’t see potenal).
People talk about views on blood test before marriage.
This is basically because of sickle cell anemia, Rhesus factor
(blood grouping) and STDs
This is important; I’ll suggest you do the blood test before
you invest heavily emoonally into each other, instead of
discovering your blood type, days before the wedding. I also
happen to be a believer that God would take care of that
before leading you to a lady or the man.
Just like writing a cover letter for a new job or a job you are
applying for, it is important to sell yourself while being
yourself. You have to give the reader enough to want more,
in turn wanting to meet you in person to continue the process.
This is the same importance as being yourself at all time,
but to be yourself you need to know yourself. “I know this
sounds strange”, but most of our youths today don’t know
themselves, as they turn to the worldly trend to define who they
are from fashion to reality television, to celebrity idolizing, to
drug dealing and drug dealer, to fraud and making fast money,
womanizing etc. They are so many things pulling our youths in
different directions; it is now considered norm as society finds
a befitting name for it called being a teenager or an adolescent.
There is nothing wrong with being an adolescent or a
teenager with your own mind and understanding that
everything starts and stops with the choices and decisions you
make in life regardless of your starting point in life. It is a given
that those that are raised in certain environment would benefit
from that environment either negatively or positively, but at a
crossroad in one’s development, you come to a place where you
have to make your own choice of what direction or path you
which to follow. At times it seems that society allows the youth
to turn and not take responsibilities for certain actions or
decisions made by creating excuses for them, or not allowing
parents to parent them accordingly.
Not to sound judgemental, I understand there will be those
that will need more help, support, teaching, nurturing,
understanding, love and patience than others do, but this
entirely still doesn’t render the youths of their freedom of
choice, regardless if it is a good or bad one.
Youths express yourself with your freedom of choice, as
20
choice is the only free thing in life. Feel free to walk away from
any situation that you are not comfortable with regardless of
the popularity or lack of. Don’t imprison yourself to popularity,
fame, money, guilty, acceptance, friendships that don’t add to
your being and directions in life, employment that isn’t aligning
you to your desired life target (be mindful that I am not just
advising you to up and leave your job without a plan, in life at
times you have to endure a process to achieve a certain
outcome). What I am saying is be in control of your decision
and be aware of the outcome of the choices you make,
regardless of who lead you down that path in the first place.
Be mindful of always turning to others before you’ve even
asked yourself, as you will never know the true heart of
individuals, you will only know what they want you to know via
words, but remember actions don’t lie. Sometimes in life people
don’t want to tell you things via words, but will via actions,
because actions don’t lie, so always be observant of actions
while taking in people’s words, and then make your own
decision. A great leader leads by example and not words alone.
For example if a friend is advising you to do something they
would never do themselves, ask yourself why? Instead of just
following blindly, this is called taking responsibilities for all of
your actions and deeds regardless of outcome. Follow your own
conscience; this is why we all have one.
Everything in life is either an upwards investment or a
downwards investment. Ensure you are upward investing in all
things from money, time, friendship, relationship, parenting,
job, business and also in your believe system (Faith).
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
AND ACCEPTING JESUS CHRIST
AS LORD AND SAVIOUR
The Bible says, “That if you confess with your mouth
the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in your heart that
God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
For with the heart a man believes unto righteousness
and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation Rom 10 v 9-10.
To receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of your life,
please pray this prayer from your heart today:
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that You died for me on the
Cross at Calvary, was buried and rose again on the
third day. I confess to You that I am a sinner. I need
Your love and forgiveness. Please come into my
heart and life by the power of Your Holy Spirit,
forgive me my sins and give me the gift of Eternal
life. I confess You now as my Lord and Saviour.
Thank you for my salvation. I now live and walk in
the newness of Your grace, love, peace and joy from
this day forward in Jesus name amen.
TTLM Prayer Summit 2015
THE TREE OF LIFE MINISTRIES
The Tree of Life Ministries (TTLM) is an evangelistic outreach in conjunction with Grace
Outreach. TTLM is known for its outstanding prayer and intercession; it started in April
2006 by the unction of the Holy Spirit by Pastor Lydia and a few women intercessors. The
main areas of our prayer focus are: Nations, Ministers, Families, Community, Youth,
Vulnerable people, Homeless, Missionaries and Orphans and as also led by the Holy Spirit.
The ministry is not a church; our main purpose is to preach, teach and heal according to
Mark 3:14-15. We stand in the gap in prayer with night vigils every 1st Friday of the
month, everyone is welcome. We also hold evangelistic outreach quarterly on the irst
Friday of the month. TTLM also has Grace Outreach project which provide support and
assistance in food and clothing to
those in need and the underprivileged.
As a ministry, we believe:
• The bible both old and new is the
complete word of God inspired by
the Holy Spirit
• In the birth, death, resurrection and
the second coming of Jesus Christ
• In the Father, Son and the Holy
Spirit
• In the baptism of the Holy Spirit
