Mucahuas
Are created by the women of the Quichua
Canelo people, who decorate them with
images of serpents, tortoises, lizards,
jaguars, scorpions, frogs, and bees, which
are all painted with the women and
children´s hair. The women tell stories
about Nunkui, (the female spirit of yucca
and chakra or farm.) At the beginning of
times, the goddess passed women their
secrets and techniques to make mucahuas
(bowls) , and they told them it was an honor
to drink chicha (a traditional Andean
beverage made from various types of
fermented grains) from the best bowls.
