LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Members, In ancient Roman mythology, Janus is <strong>the</strong> god <strong>of</strong> beginnings, doorways, transition and endings. His two faces are a reminder that <strong>the</strong> new year is a time for looking back as well as forward. Looking back on our first full year as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Location</strong> <strong>Managers</strong> <strong>Guild</strong> <strong>International</strong>, I am heartened by <strong>the</strong> progress we continue to make in raising awareness and promoting excellence in what we do as location pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. <strong>The</strong> LMGI has added location managers and scouts from across <strong>the</strong> United States and around <strong>the</strong> world. <strong>The</strong> LMGI Compass, our website and social media have a truly global outreach. <strong>The</strong> LMGI Awards last April were a smashing success, garnering <strong>the</strong> <strong>Guild</strong> and location pr<strong>of</strong>essionals well-deserved industry-wide recognition and acclaim. We finally have our own IMDb category. Two <strong>of</strong> our own are now members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Academy <strong>of</strong> Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Our Board <strong>of</strong> Directors includes members from New York, Canada and New Mexico. LMGI has been reaching out to a global audience this year: to European filmmakers at <strong>The</strong> <strong>Location</strong> Guide’s FOCUS in London, to film commissioners from around <strong>the</strong> world at <strong>the</strong> AFCI <strong>Location</strong> Expo, to fans and producers at Comic-Con, and through <strong>the</strong> attendance <strong>of</strong> members on Fam Tours to Spain, South Korea, Georgia—<strong>the</strong> state, not <strong>the</strong> country—Poland and Tahiti. Looking ahead, <strong>the</strong> LMGI will be hosting a panel at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. <strong>The</strong> submission period for <strong>the</strong> 4th Annual LMGI Awards is now open. Anyone is welcome to submit location-driven film, television and commercial projects that aired in 2016. Voting for our nominations begins January 29. Send your submissions, comments and questions to awards@locationmanagers.org. I encourage all <strong>of</strong> you to get involved. Your vote matters. Please save <strong>the</strong> date—Saturday, April 8, 2017. <strong>The</strong> LMGI does not exist to promote itself. It exists to promote you, our members and <strong>the</strong> passion you have for excellence in our craft <strong>of</strong> visual storytelling. I urge you to take ownership <strong>of</strong> your guild by getting involved with each o<strong>the</strong>r. Submit stories for <strong>the</strong> Compass and <strong>the</strong> website. Post articles on Facebook and share <strong>the</strong>m with your friends. FaceTime with someone across <strong>the</strong> country or <strong>the</strong> planet. <strong>The</strong> more we can share our experience across <strong>the</strong> continents, <strong>the</strong> greater is our ability to shape <strong>the</strong> future <strong>of</strong> our craft and add value to <strong>Guild</strong> membership.
