Editor’s Note
Welcome to our second edition
of Origin Africa Magazine
Belinda Edmonds, Executive Director
I
would like to recognise and thank
so many who have supported us
in putting together this publication.
Our advertisers and article
contributors are crucial to building
and sustaining what we intend to
become an important informative
communication tool bridging our
African industries and the rest of the
world with whom we trade and from
whom we can learn. Let me also
thank the many whose feedback
provided the encouragement that
fuels our desire to keep improving
quality and expanding readership. In
this issue, we are privileged to present
articles from esteemed partners and
colleagues from across the region
and the world and covering a wide
range of topics. We hope you find it
interesting, topical and enjoyable.
Linkages between, and our
interconnectedness with, the world,
are subtly but beautifully portrayed
in this edition’s cover. A “Proudly
Made in Nairobi” bag, developed in
collaboration with Staunch, a Scottish
surf brand features the Staunch
“Kelpie” a shape-shifting water spirit
said to inhabit the lochs and pools of
Scotland. The collaboration connects
surf with safari, Africa with Europe.
We love to “tell a story” on our cover
so please share your beautiful images
with us for future issues.
For the past 6 years, we have had
the privilege of show-casing the style,
innovation and creativity of the African
CTA industries during our Origin
Africa Trade Events. Preparations
for this year’s event to be held in
Antananarivo, Madagascar are well
under way. Diversity is the keyword
for this event - buyers from all major
markets including SADC, EU and
USA will network with exhibitors from
small to large, exhibiting products and
services covering the entire “farmer
to fashion” pipeline. Seminars
targeted to keep us updated on
latest developments in trade policies,
technologies, best practices and
marketing trends will generate
dialogue and unprecedented
networking opportunities. We are
confident that our buyers, exhibitors
and visitors will be very positively
surprised by the quality and value for
money this event will present (please
see page 8 for more information).
Members, partners, supporters
and everybody interested in Africa as
the world’s latest and most exciting
investment and sourcing destination,
Origin Africa is YOUR platform. We
look forward to welcoming you all in
Antananarivo, Madagascar.
