The entire region has a good communications and
financial infrastructure, along with an educated
population, that removes the opportunity / need for
payment technology to "leapfrog" 20th-century legacy
infrastructure (most banking systems are from 1990s
or 2000s) in order to ensure access to financial
services. On average three fifths of the population has
a bank account and the majority of banks offer internet
and mobile banking, however, these are mostly for
showcasing rather than actual use.
